We hired Crow for our kitchen remodel because he had a wealth of experience as well as an eye for aesthetics. He was an excellent communicator and outstanding at his craft. He came up with good ways for some additional savings. Any kitchen Reno is grueling but Crow brought terrific energy and skill. We were so pleased with his work that we hired him for 2 additional projects. read more

Crow just finished renovating our bathroom. He is everything you want a contractor to be: highly skilled and meticulous, shows up on time, good communicator, problem solver. He is conscientious about budget and will discuss different options and tradeoffs. Our project actually came in a bit under budget. Crow has fantastic design skills and the experience to know what will work best. He is happy to offer design advice if you want it or need it. He is a pleasure to work with and I couldn't be happier with how great our tiny bathroom came out! read more

Crow did an extensive (4 month) repair of a very water damaged garage and deck, removing all rot, replacing damaged wood as needed, re-sealing surfaces, repairing defective flashing (the root cause of the water damage), replacing damaged electrical wiring and fixtures - he did it all. His attention to detail was exceptional and the finished work was beyond my expectation. He is also a pleasure to have on site -helpful, considerate, obliging. Kept the work area tidy and cleaned up perfectly when it was all done. I would use him again with no hesitation. read more

Working with Crow was easy and pleasurable, but also inspiring. Rarely these days does one have the opportunity to engage with a master craftsman: an artist and artisan whose work is meticulous, creative and, ultimately, genius. Not only that, but he's also friendly; he's got integrity--and a great sense of humor. Crow gave us an initial sketch of what we'd described as the deck we wanted, and then he set to work putting it together with extraordinary efficiency. The care he took with every detail was above and beyond good: he even built a "catwalk" out a window for our cats to come and go while their usual opening to the outside world was being remodeled. Of course, excellence doesn't come from genius alone: there are many failed geniuses who demonstrate that. Crow did what was so unusual with contractors, it seems. He communicated with us, checking in routinely to see how we felt about the work. And, also unusual with contractors, he wanted to talk not just with the "man of the house," but also the woman. My wife Marcy felt respected, seen and heard, a rare phenomenon in the world of construction. Because Crow developed trust with us as he worked, at one point he was able to let us know that one part of our plan, while feasible, would probably not ultimately satisfy us. So he suggested a better alternative. And he was right. Crow came through and finished the job on time, despite various obstacles along the way. Also, importantly, he was right on budget. We were all happy with the final project and the beautiful deck we now enjoy, often thinking with deep satisfaction and joy of the whole process of its construction as we sit there in the sun. How many people can say that of what is usually disruptive and even agonizing work on their house? I wish I could think of something negative to say to make this review believable, but the experience really was unbelievably good in the end. If we could give Crow a ten star review, we would, but only five fit in the Yelp scheme of things, so, un-Crow-like, we'll have to settle for less. Believe the other reviewers here and don't miss an opportunity on your next job to work with Crow if you can. I can guarantee you won't regret it! read more

Decided to give Crowworks a call after reading the reviews here. My first mistake was to ask if this was Carl (afterall, it is the name on his contractor's license)? I was told that was the name his parents gave him? After explaining I was looking for a contractor to remodel two bathrooms, he proceeded to tell me his price would be $35K to $45K per bathroom without knowing their size or any other details. His low-end price would have been over $1,000 a sq. ft. for my master bath. He was pleasant enough to talk to (why I gave 3 stars) but I couldn't get past his arrogance on pricing. OK, I can understand a contractor not wanting to take on small jobs, but don't insult my intelligence by representing some extravagant price as marketplace fact. read more

We met Crow (and Drew) because they did some inventive remodeling at the home of some close friends of ours. We liked the rain awning that he created for an entranceway there and asked our neighbor, a contractor who has done extensive work on our house, what he would suggest for our entryway and front steps. His recommendation was for something simple, uninteresting and not necessarily sufficient. Crow turned out to be available and and came over for a conversation and review of our entranceway. He quickly pointed out that a simple roof would be inadequate to stop wind from blowing rain against the door and soaking the area. He texted me some photographs of relevant work he had done, proposed a solution and then drew a mockup of a gracefully carved archway piece. Within a few days he had created a template for the arch, supports and roof structure. He was enthusiastic about the work and we liked his ideas, agreed and gave him the go-ahead to undertake the work. He acquired suitable redwood and quickly translated the drawings into pieces of sculptural, wooden elements. The roof and side panels went together very smoothly and proved very successful when we had rain. He was quick to design drainage solutions to go along with the structure itself. Although he had other projects to work on, it was only three weeks from start to installation and completion of the project and we are very, very happy with the result. It looks great and is so much more pleasing than a utilitarian design that most contractors would create. read more

I highly recommend Crowworks Design and Construction for design, construction and repair work. After suffering through a burst water pipe that caused extensive water damage throughout my house, I had to deal with all of the resulting insurance and repair issues. Complicating matters, I was in the process of selling the house to my tenant. My tenant called quite a few contractors. Crow was the only person willing to do the work whom she liked. Plus, he was able to do everything (design assistance, floor replacement, carpeting, painting, bathroom redesign, electrical work, etc.). Crow worked closely with me to provide an estimate that matched the way my insurance estimate was organized, which was extremely complicated. Crow worked closely with my tenant on design issues. When construction began, Crow worked 8 hours a day Monday through Friday, which was great. The entire huge project took only a few weeks instead of months. He took a lot of pride in providing high quality craftsmanship. He was also mindful of staying within budget. That was very important to me. Crow worked diligently, tracked his time carefully and provided me with weekly bills that were organized. I was pleasantly surprised with how beautifully everything turned out. My tenant was thrilled. The sale of the house was easy and successful, which would not have been the case without Crowworks Design and Construction. read more

I had been staring at my small, funky, old bathroom for about 30 years, knowing I wanted to beautify it, but knowing I didn't have a clue how to go about this. Then a friend of ours recommended Crow. From the moment I met him I knew we had made the right choice. He has an amazing design sense and instantly understood what we were looking for. He was creative, inventive, resourceful, and a pleasure to work with. His recommendations were spot-on, and his craftsmanship impeccable. When a problem came up, he found an answer. For example, when we couldn't find a medicine cabinet to match the chosen vanity, he stripped and refinished one the right size - voila: they matched! One of the best things about Crow was how he worked with us on this project. My husband is an engineer and is very creative and capable. He is also a perfectionist. It is not easy for him to give up control of a project, but he and Crow worked together on the design/build seamlessly. There was mutual respect, and it showed in their day-to-day communications and interactions. When Crow and his side-kick, the amazing Drew,, were finished, my old linoleum was replaced with elegant marble tile with little jewel-like tiles embedded in it; my claw foot tub was unburied with its toenails painted (Thank you Drew.), my cabinets perfectly matched, and my lighting was even and elegant. Behind the tub was an arched tiled wall that Crow conceived of and pieced together for us. Then Crow added another touch -- a hand-built shelf over the tub with carvings that evoked water images. Crow and Drew were on time and on budget. The only surprises we got were extra touches that Crow thought would improve the project. There's no one else I would rather work with. Because he's so good, it took a while to fit into his schedule, but anyone who has seen his work can tell you, he's well worth the wait. read more

My wife and I hired Crowworks Design last summer to convert a small room in the back of our house to a half bathroom, as well as to replace some older single pane windows and a funky old aluminum back door. We knew the job was going to involve a lot of creative thinking and custom work from the start, and we were counting on CD to execute the vision we had for this space with minimal oversight. The scope included major plumbing, electrical, carpentry and finish work. Right around the time the work was started, my family left for a vacation. We returned 2 weeks later to find a completely finished new bathroom, two new picture windows in the back bedroom, and a beautiful glass back door leading out to our deck. We were surprised and amazed by the speed, quality, and attention to detail, and are thrilled with the way the project turned out. I would highly recommend Crowworks Design for your next project. Crow is a consummate professional, easy to work with, and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to design, construction, and fabrication. And his expertise across a variety of trades means you don't need an army of specialists and subcontractors--a huge plus when the scale of your project doesn't support such high overhead. read more

If you are considering on embarking on a home improvement project, I can whole-heartedly endorse Crowworks Design for the job. First of all, he is an excellent communicator with a tremendous eye for detail. This skill is often transferred to his ability to solve inevitable physical world issues with skill and grace. Crowworks finished our kitchen remodel project back in 2005, and we still enjoy the transformation our house has undergone to this day. My business is also in residential construction (high-end home automation) so I've been exposed to the work habits of many contractors in the Bay Area. Often, its just not a good fit to have a really big contractor or really limited contractor do your remodel project. If you hire Crow, I am sure that he will exceed your expectations on what a contractor can be, and that you will have probably made a good friend along the way. What could be better? read more

Crow is fantastic! He and his partner, Drew, recently completed a small bathroom remodel for us and we are very pleased with their work. I loved their attention to detail and superb craftsmanship. As with many remodels we found some surprises behind the existing walls, but Crow always had great suggestions that worked well with our vision of the design. Always cheerful, courteous, and accommodating, Crow was a pleasure to work with. I would definitely call him again for our next project. read more

We first contacted Crow about a bathroom remodel in 2013, while scoping out contractors for a bathroom remodel. We didn't do the job for another four years, mainly for financial reasons, but we were so impressed by Crow that when decided to do the job in 2017 we went straight back to him. The job we contracted Crow to do was complicated. Our mid-century house came with an awkward bath plus half bath setup, the two rooms divided by a flimsy pocket door. The working concept was to transform the smaller half bath--with only a sink and a toilet--into a full bath, with shower. Remodeling the other bathroom would be easier: we planned on taking back the room to the studs, replacing all the components, faucets, and fixtures--but preserving more-or-less the original layout. Working with Crow was a pleasure throughout. He and his partner Drew were patient, empathetic, and utterly professional throughout the entirety of the job. Despite some pretty major construction work going on, the job site was clean and orderly throughout, and Crow and Drew cleaned diligently at the end of each working day. We were able to remain in the house throughout the entire job (we opted to spend a week off site towards the end in order to expedite completion, but that was our choice). Still, stressing Crow and Drew's professionalism isn't the half of it; what really made Crowworks such an outstanding choice for us was their combination of technical skill and artistic vision. Squeezing a shower into a small half bathroom was no mean feat. We weren't altogether sure that it could be done, and other contractors were uncertain. But Crow had a compelling vision, and he worked carefully with the City of El Cerrito in order to ensure that the solutions he devised were all code compliant. He made brilliant use of mirrors, windows, tiling, and other design elements to achieve an aesthetic that was not only elegant and refined but also remarkably spacious, given the room's tiny footprint. Drew, meanwhile, designed and manufactured custom-made vanity units for both bathrooms. The pieces are really works of art--from the curved legs that he conceived as a design feature to the elegant, two-tone joints on the interior of the drawers. Suffice to say that the job produced not only two beautiful, perfect bathrooms but also, with Drew's vanity units, the two nicest pieces of furniture that we own! Thanks to Crowworks, we turned the two nastiest rooms in our house into the two best rooms in the house. We would work with Crow again in a heartbeat and recommend him with unrestrained enthusiasm. To the extent that I have any reservations recommending Crow, I am concerned only that posting a positive review may help to fill up Crow's work schedule--and make for a longer wait for us when we have him back for the next home project, as I am certain we will do. read more

Crow is amazing! We hired him to renovate our bathroom with a new tub (it was just a shower). Not only do we absolutely love the final product, but he came in under budget and worked with us to find creative solutions every step of the way(including matching tile which can be a PITA). The owner fixed our electrical problem over the phone by asking relevant questions and pointing out a possibility that we hadn't considered, after 20 years of living here, that we just wouldn't have suspected. No charge, and a funny joke ended the call. Couldn't be happier. Will definitely call him in the future when we need something more major, whether electrical or renovative. Looking at the pictures on this site reveal he is a very talented contractor! Beautiful work Crowworks! read more

Crow completed a bathroom remodel project for us over the pandemic. Crow is an artist, engineer, architect all rolled into one. He did an excellent job with a dated bathroom and transformed it completely. He has an eye for detail in his work and an artistic aesthetic. He pretty much completed the whole project from start to finish- from brainstorming concepts with us, permits, selecting and picking up materials, and executed it flawlessly. He kept us informed every step of the way and worked through a few surprised that came up. We enjoyed his work so much we also did a second project with him, to add fencing to our yard. He completed both projects timely, added his artistic flair to them and kept a handle on the budget throughout. Crow was extremely civid-safe too. However the biggest reason we would recommend working with Crow is that he is not an impersonal contractor just executing someone else's ideas. He takes pride in his work, is clearly passionate about it, and is a delight to talk to everyday. It's a strange thing to say but we miss having him around. Who would have thought a remodeling project could be so pleasant. We wholeheartedly recommend Crow for your next project. read more

I've used Crow (of Crowworks design) on several projects around the house, including a kitchen remodel, some plumbing and two fences. I've also had him take care of a few niggling projects that I'd never quite gotten to. Everything was done with a high degree of skill and at a reasonable cost. I had planned on doing a fairly plain fence gate and Crow came up with an elegant design that I used instead. In the kitchen remodel some specs from a stove manufacturer were wrong and Crow was able to quickly adapt so no time was lost. He truly wants you to be happy with his work and busts his butt so you will be. Highly recommended, for large projects or small! read more

This guy can do anything! We hired him for a small project but he is so multi-talented that we ended up having him perform various electrical and carpentry jobs for us as well. We have already hired him for further work as soon as he is available. read more

Crow and Andrew did an amazing job on our home remodel. They have excellent communication and coordination skills, great design skills, and superb craftsmanship. They were a pleasure to work with and the result was exactly what we were looking for. We really appreciated their design work for our dining room and our bath room. The dining room included overhead lighting and faux painting on the walls. The master bathroom remodel included building a custom vanity and sink, floor tile, overhead and sconce lighting, building a shower enclosure that included some custom designed tiles, installing a large custom designed stained glass window, and some beautiful custom woodwork. They both have a strong commitment to quality while always keeping cost aspects in mind. read more

We have hired Crow for several projects around our house, and each time is enjoyable and stress free. My husband and I do a lot of work ourselves on evenings and weekends and Crow is always great at giving us pointers to get things done well and efficiently. The most recent project was a long-awaited kitchen remodel. Crow and Andrew were great to have at the house -- they're fun and lively, but they are also punctual and very attentive to details. Our daughter (who is currently 2) loved when our "friends" came in the morning. And I'm pretty sure they thoroughly enjoyed seeing her too. We are running out of things to remodel, but we would recommend Crowworks to anyone looking for a great, reliable contractor. read more

Crow is absolutely amazing! We hired him to do a backyard fence and had some very specific requests about style & height. Before even looking at the project space he took the time to talk with us about why we needed the fence and what our vision for the area was. During the early stages of the project he checked in multiple times to confirm that what he was doing was what we expected and he made suggestions that added aesthetic value without adding cost!! As our first major project in our new home I was very concerned about staying within budget and his final cost was on target with his estimate which I loved. At the end of the project when I asked him about other projects around the house he made suggestions about what we could do ourselves versus what actually needed a contractor. He is incredibly polite, enthusiastic and on time; all qualities I love in working with a contractor. He clearly cared about improving our home as much as we cared which really makes a difference when you are entrusting somebody with your investment. I will be calling Crow for our next project. read more

Crow has helped us with various home projects (large & small). We are consistently impressed by his ability to problem solve when running into unforseen problems (which of course always happens with home repair & improvement). On the last job Crow & Manuel (his extremely talented partner) were able to fix an unforseen flood, repair the original work they come to do and some additional things in half the time estimated. Their estimates are accurate and they are honest. We will continue to hire them & they are worth waiting for if they are on another job. read more

Crowworks did an amazing job with my kitchen remodel. The team is skilled, honest, and an impressive value. They completely gutted my original 1950s "horseshoe" kitchen and I now have a galley kitchen worthy of magazine covers! The installation, which included extensive new plumbing and electrical, lighted cabinets, and a wall of glass tile, was impeccable, gorgeous, and completed on a reasonable timeline. We met several times before work started to plan out the design and I greatly appreciated how collaborative the entire project was - my questions were always answered promptly and thoroughly and I felt that my frequent input was heard with respect. They were very careful with my indoor cats and I had no worries about giving them my keys and even leaving on vacation in the middle of construction. I have already hired them for my next project, turning my garage into a home gym, and we have started planning a future bathroom remodel. read more
