Went with my wife for dinner night. I had the best experience, especially the food we start off with guacamole and elote then tacos Gobernador taco and alambre taco . Both tacos were amazing , and the last was the carne asada with the side of camote and platanitos.Our server was really nice with us and was taking good care of us. The margaritas are strong and delicious . I had the Smokey jalapeño and my wife a sunset Oaxaca they both were amazing. I recommend this place for everybody and any type of date. read more

I really wanted to love this place considering the solid Yelp reviews. Another likable factor is that they have "happy hour" seven days a week ( although not dirt cheap). It's not easy (although not impossible) to find HH specials on weekends. But overall, my experience at Ofrenda was lukewarm. Here's the scoop: My friend, who lives in the area, suggested this venue for our girls night out last night. We snagged a reservation for 5:30 pm. When I arrived, the place was already hopping. Extremely packed & in tight quarters. Outdoor seating also available but already taken since the weather was gorgeous. Ofrenda is a Mexican restaurant and known for the Jalapeno margarita as far as drinks are concerned. But for those not into spicy drinks, there's plenty to choose from. Once we settled, we started the evening by ordering the guacamole and chips and a round of drinks (fyi, wine was $7 while the cocktails were $9). We each ordered the Jalapeno, while another friend chose mango. I enjoyed the Jalapeno margarita since I am into everything spicy. Our drinks were served without the cocktail straws due to the restaurant being environmentally friendly. I could understand that, although whenever a sip of the drink was taken, some of the ice got in the way. Here's the odd part---those straws I wrote about earlier were abundant and served at the bar. Hmmm. The guac and chips were good, however the chips were slightly thick for my liking despite being tricolor attractive. The guacamole was more of a chunky style and lacked a kick. The portion was small-ish. We ended up placing two orders since we were a group of four. For dinner, there was a full priced menu option or tacos/quesadilla listed along on the drinks menu. The latter were $8.50. I asked the waiter for the more filling option between the tacos ( two in a serving) & quesadilla. He replied both. Two of us chose the tacos while my other 2 friends selected the quesadilla. Here's a tip---definitely go with the quesadilla over the tacos. I chose the corn and squash tacos and it was okay-ish. I was not wowed and if I didn't indulge in the guac and chips, it would not be satisfying as a portion. I tasted my friend's mushroom quesadilla and it was delicious. As the evening continued, we ordered more rounds of drinks ( I later switched to the sangria which was delicious--again, no straws) and two desserts for sharing. One was chocolate cake with a side of sorbet and the other was a corn cake with ice cream. Both were equally good and recommended. We spent a couple hours catching up and a substantial amount of money. Here's where my experience went downhill. One of the staff (not sure if she was a manager), came to our table & had a dialogue with my two friends who sat across from my friend and I. I couldn't hear what the conversation was about but it was along the lines of asking how much longer we would be staying and that the table was needed. In others words, we had to leave. I never experienced such a gesture in my entire life! Like most Yelpers, I've eaten plenty in my life and at restaurants in different cities. I was so taken aback and definitely put off considering the amount of money we spent. Mind you, we weren't holding up a table for hours by just talking and not ordering food--we spent a substantial amount of money!! And this dialogue took place shortly after we finished the 2 desserts. It was rude and very unacceptable. As we left, I asked her if it was customary for the restaurant to ask patrons for the table and her reply was a fumbled one. I'm probably being too generous by giving 2 stars based on how the evening ended. With a plethora of restaurants in Manhattan, including Mexican, I will not be returning to Ofrenda. If you are coming here in the evening, especially during happy hour, expect to wait as the seating area isn't that big. We arrived at around 6:15pm and waited about 45min before we were seated. However, the host told us that we could sit at the bar while we waited. Since it was happy hour, my friends ordered a margarita and a sangria for $8 each. According to my friends, the margarita tasted surprisingly strong. Once we were seated, we were quickly and efficiently waited on. For the table, we ordered the guac and chips. Guac was good, but was overpowered by the taste of onions. I ordered their De Panchita tacos which had crispy pork belly. The pork belly contained a lot of fat, but was cooked really well. But for $14, I thought it was expensive for just 2 tacos. Overall, the place had a nice atmosphere and all parties were enjoying themselves. But at the end of the day, it still hit. And drinks are expected for a happy hour deal (how many times have i said 'happy hour'...) Service was attentive but not overbearing. Centered in the heart of Greenwich Village, Ofrenda has always had a special place in my heart. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and our bartender made our drinks perfect. Perfect amount of tequila, perfect amount of chipotle kick. I came here with some friends for HH and am glad we stopped by! Their margaritas are all super yummy, but my favorite was actually the prickly pear which was fun and unique. Ok, so. . . Appetizers were decent. Had the guacamole ($10 happy hour price, so the fact that it was fairly small is expected), queso fundido (arrived pretty late, was ok), and nachos (this one was good). Aside: they must have delivered 4 extra appetizers to our table before we told them we already HAD our appetizers and these were not what we ordered. Drinks were fine. Entrees. . . No ways. The fish -- I can't remember the name, the receipt simply says "pescado"--was dry, devoid of any oil or enriching liquid of any kind and appeared have dry spices on top. It came with a very tasty (rather sweet) little salad on the side--that I LIKED. Since my husband really dislike the "enchiladas mole" he ended up with (which I thought I had ordered too, instead of the desert fish--cough, cough), I traded with him and received the Chicken enchilada. . . Madre de Dios, was THAT a mistake! Imagine completely shredded chicken, devoid of the slightest spice or (again) moisture, rolled up in corn tortillas and covered with the blandest and least satisfying mole sauce I have witnessed on earth. A mole sauce, in my experience, is a fairly FLAVORFUL, dark sauce that happens to contain some chocolate, that can be spicy, or mild, always rather flavorful. This, THIS was tasteless chocolate gravy. No sweetness, no salt, no discernible spice whatsoever, and utterly unable to imbue either satisfying flavor or moisture to the dry shredded chicken inside these tortillas. Perhaps a little crema or salsa or. . .? Anything might have helped, but nothing was there to do so. I found myself trying to eat the dry shredded chicken and avoid the "mole" but it was no use-- it was just as bad alone as accompanied by the muddy blandness of the sauce it was served covered in. We got chips and salsa, Enchiladas Verdes, and the chicken quesadilla. Overall, the food was generally just okay, especially for the higher prices. The sauce on the enchiladas was pretty good, but the chicken on the inside didn't have too much flavor. The quesadilla was good, but nothing too special. The chips and salsa was honestly the best part - the chips are excellent! We also got margaritas which were a heaftier serving than comparable places so we were pleased. Great food. Terrible service. Went for Happy Hour on a Thursday, and I was the first and only customer. I sat on the outdoor patio, and had the entire place to myself. The wind was insanely high, and the plastic coverings nearly blew away. Yet and still, I didn't let that stop me from continuing with my order. I should have known I was in for a disappointing experience when I ordered my first drink. A young man took the order, but a young woman who literally had just walked in off the street, delivered it to the table...sort of. She approached with the drink on a tray and asked if the drink was for me. I thought that was a silly question since I was the only customer in the entire places! She then asked me to remove the drink from her tray. which I also found to be a bit odd as well. I decided to go with the flow a little longer. She took my order, and whisked away. In a nutshell, I enjoyed my Eloté, Tacos De Pesacdo, and Tostada De Camaron. The flavors popped, and really delivered the authentic Mexican taste I was looking for. The Smokey Jalapeño Margaritas were poured to perfection, and well worth the Happy Hour pricing. My complaint and dissatisfaction lies with the service. I was the only customer on the patio for nearly 45 minutes before more people started trickling in, and yet not one single time did anyone ask if I needed anything else. I had to signal to one of the bus staff that I wanted another drink. My original server who'd walked past my table several times to check in with the table behind me, brought it to me. After I finished, I had to flag him down to ask for my check. I still tipped 20% in spite of the terrible service. A young man wearing glasses came to clear the table as I got up to leave. He was the only person to say "Thank you. Please come again." The food was incredible, but I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon. I asked for hot sauce and was charged for it even though I saw a bottle of valentina hot sauce (would've tasted better than what I was given). Met a friend here for happy hour. We ordered drinks and had some of the happy hour apps but didn't order food from their main menu. Here's what we had: 1. Margs (4/5)... good amount of strength and they are heavy on the salt rim. 2. Tacos (3/5)... the fish taco was the best but others were very underwhelming. 3. Guac (3.5/5)... good portion but guac itself was nothing special 4. Tostada (3/5)... similar to the taco, underwhelming and the cocktail sauce was just a lil too weird for me.
