I rarely have a good experience there. There is just a sense of apathy and avoidance of customers looking for assistance. Once I had to leave without all my things because their credit card system was down and they had to hand dial every per chase and it was taking forever. My last visit, (to get the things I had to leave without) there was a hold-up in line because a bar code wouldn't work with their system. (OFTEN HAPPENS, because general sloppiness internally). The line was backed up, someone got on a register finally and she waved the people at the END of the long line to come over. I'd been waiting long and was near the front of the other line, which was frozen because a lackadaisical employee was sauntering around the isles looking for a bar code)_. When me and the other casher pointed this out, the cashier coming on just shrugged in front of us. like "Too bad for you.". I went ahead and asked if I could move over and the person in the new line said that would be fine (since the cashier REFUSED TO. Then she completed my purchase and I'd forgotten to give my phone number for the discount. I said, "Aren't you going to ask me for my phone number?" She said, "Awe, it's too late now." AND THIS WAS THE STORE MANAGER!!!!!! I started going to Office Depot because Office Max was the worlds worst in this way. But now Office Depot is just as bad if not worse. Not ALL employees there are just calling it in. Tony in the copy center has a big heart, but mostly it's just a zombie zone for employees who are miserable in a miserable corporate culture. I really hope Office Depot realizes that they cannot compete with online shopping by creating such an abominable customer experience. read more

I just left the store, frustrated, at 5:05 p.m. on 1/24/16. Extremely long lines, terrible and discourteous customer service. The young female clerk I spoke to acted like she could care less about my need for help. She told me "all the sales people are busy." When I came back to ask whether or when I might get help, she told me I'd have to wait 20 minutes to get someone to help me. I won't be back. Afterward I went to Staples on Shattuck and had a very different experience (see my Staples review). Don't even waste your time going to Office Depot. Go to Staples instead. read more

Not too far from its original location. I was looking for Post-It tags and flags for the upcoming spring semester's readings at Cal while The Mother was looking for Paper Mate felt tip markers. I found many an assortment of Post-It tags and flags on sale. Whoo Hooo! As for The Mother, she did some comparison shopping between Paper Mate and Sharpie pens. She elected to go with the Sharpies as they were a better deal--and they were on sale. The new Office Depot space here is much smaller and looks fully filled and stocked. At its former location, it was so spread out and roomy to find items that the space appeared to be empty and was so easy to get lost that either The Mother could not find me and vice versa. It seems like every time we would come to Office Depot, there would new associates working behind the tills here. And it quite looks like we have many new faces here at Office Depot. The associates behind the till were very sweet and professional in ringing up our orders. There was one associate when we walked in, and by the time we were ready to check out, there was another associate alongside ringing up purchases. I came in today and Martina and Miles went above and beyond with their personalities and can-do attitude. It was really a great turn around from mid- Covid. When I arrived before it was very hard to get someone that understood what I was looking for. But today these two customer service providers made my request very easy to process. I tried to buy a carton of copy paper online. It was hopeless. I called for customer service, and they told me that I was on my own-the problem--It's against their policy for me to make an order and pick the order up in my store. I live in an area with lots of porch thefts, and it's such a hassle to call police-fill out forms. Office Depot-OfficeMax don't seem to realize that the chances are high that I'll buy something else if my person is in the store. OfficeMax and Office Depot are so far behind the online technology and entrepreneurship of a lumber yard. I called the local store-and they kept saying over and over that I had to pay before an order could be processed. I told them that of course I knew that.. Today I needed help getting some things printed. After waiting 45 minutes in line,I was advised that I had to email anything I had on my iPad that needed printing. I also had an 8.5 x 11 in poster that I needed 12 copies of on heavier paper. I was told by the young female employee that I needed to use the self service printer. I said I wasn't sure I understood how it worked. Her response was 'You'll figure it out.' Well, After paying by credit card which was required up front, I couldn't figure it out. Really?? I googled green office supplies. I particularly needed a few notebooks and like to patronize local brick-and-mortar stores. Office Depot was one of the self-advertising responses. " This branch near Gilman and San Pablo Av in Berkeley had ZERO recycled or alt paper notebooks. I asked the staff if they normally carried any of these kinds of products and had just run out. The blank looks and mumbled "Uhh... what?" suggested they hadn't even heard of such products. Maybe Office Depot's greeness is limited to recycling ad copy from other stores. I had very good experience, from the gentleman showing me where all the discounted supplies were not once but 3 times! Just got the most fabulous service from Martine in the print department. Ordered business cards online last night that I needed this morning in a hurry. She called first thing to tell me there was a problem with the alignment on some of the cards. But she said she would try and fix it. 15 minutes later she called and said they were done. They open at 9 AM and she had them ready in a half an hour! So thoughtful and courteous with an amazing bright good morning! read more

They had sold out of the monitor I wanted and he found an equivalent and saved me over 80% off the original price, plus they had the laptop I really wanted in stock that was sold out at the Emeryville location. I came into this Office Depot because it is conveniently close to where I live. First off, their accidental damage extended warranty, if you don't have one. Get it! It's so worth it. I purchased my galaxy tablet from this location in February of this year and the glass cracked because my daughter dropped it. The replacement plan was stress free. The Process only took a week and a half. I wouldn't of known about it if the helpful associate didn't tell me about it. So, I went in last week to purchase my replacement and three different associates helped me including the manager. I really appreciated how hands on they were and extremely helpful. Especially patient because my daughter was all over the place. I ended up upgrading the size of my tablet and purchasing another extended warranty. They know their products here. Great prices, and I would definitely recommend anyone to purchase their electronics from Office Depot. Overall, everyone gave me a 110% customer service including the Cashier and I had a great experience. Thumbs up! read more

Wow! This place just really upset me. They are having a sale on jump/flash drives and the whole section is so unorganized. They didn't have 3 of the 4 items I brought to the register and the one they did have was labeled incorrectly and they would not honor the price. I am very disappointed. I've worked in retail for over 20 years and always had to honor the price that was displayed. It's not the customers fault, it's the fault of the store. I will never shop at this location ever again and I suggest you don't unless you enjoy lackluster customer service and poor management. read more

While it must be difficult for a business to hire employees, Office Depot has figured it out....I walked in a couple of weeks ago in a jam..... PROBLEM:.My son needed a chair for his office right away and I had to go home to San Diego the next day. Came here and just bought sheet protectors because I am selling my teardrop trailer. Needed them to put the photos of what the inside of the trailer looks like without being suspectible to water damage. Was literally in here for just 2 minutes and didn't ask an employee for help so just giving them 3 stars. They have this weird line for you to walk through even if no one is in the store but that is my only compliant. This is my go to place for any office supplies and they generally point you in the right direction. read more

I guess the good old days of helpful office supplies stores are long gone. My local Staples in El Cerrito just went belly up, so I thought I'd try out this Office Depot. I went in with a specific item in mind but couldn't find it. Nor were any store clerks available on the floor to help me. I finally spotted one, but he avoided eye contact and scurried away, clipboard in hand. I spotted another and was able to chase her down, literally, but she was of little use. It's not like they were busy with other customers -- the store was practically empty. Rather, they were too busy with paperwork and stocking tasks to bother with an actual human being. The big-box retailers shouldn't complain that Amazon is taking over the world, if they refuse to help the customers who take the time and spend the gas money to come visit them. read more

Trying to get my business cards replenished was an ordeal. First the man in the office section did a scan on one letter on the card and said he couldn't do it with good quality. I called back and they said they could, one trip wasted. When the cards were ready I thought it would be simpler to just pick them up and pay but no. The cash register was malfunctioning and they had no backup. I waited for 15 minutes until they finally figured out that they can process it on another machine which accepts credit card only. The finally the card came out a different material than the one I had submitted and I was not informed of this. read more

I dropped my laptop and took it here for repairs on 9/4.. Big mistake. They charge a flat rate regardless of what's needed, plus a ridiculously high shipping fee because they don't do the work onsite. So yesterday, tired of waiting I went to OD's "chat line" to find out what the delay was - they could give me no information. None. Today I looked up the FedEx tracking number to discover my laptop has been delivered to the store a WEEK ago, no one has called, or emailed me. This is what I'm paying a $100 shipping fee for? The OD site still reports "Service in Progress". I'll be going there as soon as they open today. But never again. read more

I just spent an hour in this store. With the intent of spending over $200. I waited in line for over 15mins to check out. When I finally got to the cashier and he started to ring up the items, all of the items that were on sale in the aisle rang up at full price. When I mentioned this to him he looked at me like a deer in headlights. At this point, there were at least 10 (equally irritated) customers in line behind. Every time I go to this store I'm disappointed. There is a lackadaisical approach to customer service. Clerks don't know the stock, so you have to wander around trying to find things. If you have a question, no one can answer it. And if you need help, forget it. The clerks are nice but put out no effort, and the manager hides from customers. read more

Really bad. Out of stock a lot. Super slow service. Fingernails on a chalkboard. Painfully slow even when it's not busy

So bad it is pathetic. One checker when there were long lines. Each transaction seemed to take centuries. One woman recommended a product. When I returned later, a guy had no idea what I was talking about. My purchase was delivered on the wrong day. I was working at home all day. Driver didn't buzz me or the manager (also home) No sign of the bookcase. I called customer service. Crazy-making music (the kind that makes you want to commit a violent act). Every 20 seconds a voice: "All our agents are assisting other customers. Please stay on the line and a representative will be with you shortly. Thank you for your patience." ONE HUNDRED AND NINE MINUTES LATER, I FINALLY HUNG UP THE PHONE. I had heard the message some 180 times and, in the process, developed a burning hatred for Home Depot/Office Max. I will NEVER buy another thing from either franchise. Customer service sufferers of the world unite! Let's boycott these lousy kinds of companies and put them out of business! read more
