Vintage Mercantile is a small little gift shop right on Main Street in downtown Antioch, Illinois…read more They have done a fantastic job remodeling and repairing the inside space to look a bit rustic, decorated with items from the past. With the large open windows up front, the store has plenty of natural lighting, which gives it a cozy feeling. They sell a selection of soaps, spices, cups, bags, jewelry, towels, and a good variety of little knickknacks. They have these books that are made up to look like old leather bound tomes with cloth like paper that I thought was pretty neat. The staff were very friendly and made sure we were taken care of but didn't hound us while we shopped. My only comment is some items were a tad bit pricey, but that's pretty standard for the unique products that they sell. It definitely did not feel touristy, as some gift shops do, so that was very nice. Overall, if you're looking for something unique, rustic, or something with an Antioch Illinois flair, then Vintage Mercantile is a great place to stop in if you're in the area. I'm always greeted with a Hello and I always let them know that I'm just looking. When I need help, they are right there ready to assist. When I inquire about a perfume that is out of stock - they order it for me and let me know when it's in. I fully understand about questioning patrons (and leaving them feeling like they were shoplifters), after a few big losses that Hannah's suffered, they are just trying to protect their inventory. I'm not stealing anything so I don't mind if they want to check my bag. All in all, the store is lovely, the staff is kind and I will continue to shop them every chance I get. There is a lot of history in the Midwest and I've travelled around taking photos of old barns and cabins. While I'm not sure what I want to build with the aged wood, I can't help but want to fill my garage with as much as I can get. The shop is decent sized with a private parking area and there is a lot of stuff in the store. The front of the store has walls of siding, beams, shingles, and old artifacts found in the barns like tools and horse hardware. Everything looks so beautiful and the pricing is what you'd expect for the aged look. The rear of the store has an artistic room with home decor finished projects made out of the aged wood. I didn't see any giant lengthy beams but I asked and they have a warehouse up in Wisconsin where they store what you need. The staff was very friendly and willing to get you what you need. I'll definitely be back to load up on this beautiful wood.
