When I've been in Crystal Lake other times, I've wondered about this shop but have either not had…read moretime to stop in it or it has been closed when I've been there. Today when I was in town I took the opportunity to walk around a bit. There are a lot of nice looking housewares and decor throughout the store. It's actually quite large, and had an upstairs design area as well. Lots of pillows, furniture, wall art, and so on. The women in the store were busy with other customers when I and others entered, but once she was done she came and welcomed us to the store and asked us if we needed any assistance. There wasn't anything I needed and between buying some other home decor items and spending money with guests visiting, I didn't really want to spend any money and just wanted to take a look around. There was one item I found, a navy-colored, ~leather, mirrored tray; however, when the two sizes were $60 or $90 and when I turned it over I there was a big made in China mass production sticker on it, which was pretty disappointing for a store that has so many items that appear to be locally made or at least have a local flavor. I would visit again to wander or if I was looking for something specific (and I'll bet they have some lovely things around the holidays). However, I'd try to learn about the origins of what I was buying and if it's just an assembly line piece to help me determine what I'd be willing to pay for whatever I was purchasing.

Also, make sure that you've got time to browse-there are two stories of awesome finds! Lot's of antiques, art, vintage clothing and more. Big collection of vintage cookbooks and cookware. The store reminded me of antiquing with my mom and had me wanting to bring her ASAP. You can tell that the store's owner takes a lot of pride into her business and the store is a reflection of that. I bought two really lovely bookmarks. I'm looking forward to a return visit soon.

Vintage Mercantile is a small little gift shop right on Main Street in downtown Antioch, Illinois…read more They have done a fantastic job remodeling and repairing the inside space to look a bit rustic, decorated with items from the past. With the large open windows up front, the store has plenty of natural lighting, which gives it a cozy feeling. They sell a selection of soaps, spices, cups, bags, jewelry, towels, and a good variety of little knickknacks. They have these books that are made up to look like old leather bound tomes with cloth like paper that I thought was pretty neat. The staff were very friendly and made sure we were taken care of but didn't hound us while we shopped. My only comment is some items were a tad bit pricey, but that's pretty standard for the unique products that they sell. It definitely did not feel touristy, as some gift shops do, so that was very nice. Overall, if you're looking for something unique, rustic, or something with an Antioch Illinois flair, then Vintage Mercantile is a great place to stop in if you're in the area. I would definitely recommend it!
