I've bought fixtures here, as well as construction materials, work wear, everything a garden enthusiast needs, tile, carpet, and even snacks. I like the selection and prices here compared to their local competitors. Workers have always been helpful and friendly. They didn't have poblano seeds! Never have I been more disappointed with an online purchase. Bought a 120 gallon composter online from the Fox Lake location. These jokers sent me a used, damaged and broken, filthy, incomplete (missing the lid) piece of garbage. It did not even come in its original box. Instead they just wrapped it in discarded cardboard boxes. Manager would not tell me how to get a refund or credit, only said, "I'll look into it and get back to you." Really helpful. And the snarky girls who answer the phones need to learn how to treat people. Blatantly rude and unhelpful. Bad attitudes. Sorry you hate your job but dont take it out on customers. I highly do not recommend that anyone purchase Patriot Lighting from Menards! I recently purchased a $200+ light fixture had most of it installed by an Electrician only to realize the damn thing was chipped/cracked (the Crystal part)! I went to exchange and all four that were in stock were broken (Unbelievable)! I had to settle for a display which was not in new condition! I wasted my time and money even wrote a complaint directly to the company and no refund was provided! This is truly unacceptable! read more

I go in to the paint department and ask the Mike what colors can I choose for my metal barn. He said to pick any color on any of the samples. I spend my last hour that I have the spare searching for the right color. I ask for three 5 gallon cans mixed in the color I chose. The same guy says oh we can't do metal that's only for wood. Then proceeds to tell me that he can only mix 1 gallon cans for metal. Total waste of time. How can people be that dumb? I see it everywhere. This store should serve as example on how not to run a business. Store employees are angry people and for the most part they clearly can't wait for their shift to finish, so they can head over to the closest bar to get drunk and smoke cigarettes, maybe get some confederate flag tattoos after that. I rented a truck there to bring home a fairly large purchase closer to the ending of the day 30 minutes in to it I received a call from the customer service to notify me that the store will close soon and that if I don't bring the truck back they would call the police to report the truck stolen. Now at this point I had to sit down , not because I wasn't going to be able to bring the truck back before closing time , I only live few minutes away. I ve dealt with the horrible customer service at this store for years but this level of rock bottom customer service was unprecedented. I have been shopping this store since it opened. I ordered at the building desk $3000 worth of materials and delivery. And got charged $1500 because half the order I placed wasn't on ticket. So I had to go back and buy the items missing myself. Let alone it was for a new construction 600k home. Was in the other morning and the new mask update started. Only problem is Jose from customer service and the store manager walked into the store with no mask on. Hmmm but Menards Managers can tell customers what they should do. I think Menards should train their employee's so that as customer's we should enjoy are shopping experience. The sexual harassment in that store is unbelievable. Menards - Building Supplies Near Me - Fox Lake, Illinois

My mom recently purchased a 6-piece patio set. In order to get the quantity of chairs she desired (5), we had to call and place/pay for the order by phone here at the Fox Lake location. Due to our work schedules, it took us a few days to pick up. It was nice that they were cool with the delay. She was told over the phone that she'd have to go to the Hardware Desk to pick it up. Never having been here, we didn't know where the desk was located and first inquired at the Service Desk...then various other desks when we were unable to locate the Hardware Desk. (There isn't any signage either..) Angela helped us, then waited with us until the correct employee, P., was finally available to get to us. She was very nice. It was 8:45pm (they close at 10) and NOT busy, but the delay was a long one! It also turns out that Mom was incorrectly told to go to Hardware, when in fact we had to go to the Service Desk. The search, then waiting, and the back-and-forth wasted about 25 minutes of time. Needless to say, we had to take multiple trips with the furniture and only got one in that night. The guard who worked the gate to enter the Pick Up area over the two days we made trips was nice, kind of funny, and explained the process. Steven in helped us load our vehicle twice, which was super nice! We also looked at doors both days. The first day, the same associate, P., who took a long time getting to the Hardware Desk was also the same guy I hunted down to help with doors. He basically directed us to an automated kiosk and left us to our own devices as soon as he received a phone call. He came back, but never really helped us. We were less than thrilled with his poor service: we know nothing about doors/front windows and had only basic measurements from my mom's contractor. The second day we tried door shopping again, and were greeted and helped by Nicole. She was extremely knowledgeable and took her time with us. She not only was thorough in her explanations, she never made us feel silly for asking what were obviously naive questions. It was a vastly different experience from Day 1, and we literally breathed sighs of relief! She also helped us pick out new locks, and then keyed them for us. Though Menards is unchartered to us, we were, in general, very pleased with the customer service from the employees here. read more

I went in here the day after Christmas to buy some clearance Christmas candy. The signs advertised that all Xmas items and candy are half off. I went to the register and the candy was coming up full price still. I let the cashier know it wasn't coming up correctly. She agreed and called her manager over. They did a price check for the $1.50 difference and determined that candy wasn't half off. There were two displays of this candy in the Christmas section. It's not like the candy was misplaced there. At this point it wasn't about the money it was the concept that they weren't even honoring the sign that it was posted under. I wrote corporate to let them know the customer service was terrible. If they advertise the candy is half off..they need to honor it especially if the sign is above the candy! Corporate wrote back...I thought they would agree that false advertising is frowned upon. However, based on the response below, they could care less about honoring what is advertised as well. "I'm very sorry , however we must reserve the right to charge the proper price of our products. Thank you, Ray" Well, thank you Ray for providing a terrible corporate response. You lost a customer over $1.50 based on how you don't even care to resolve an error that your store made. Two things: First the good. Lisa who's been at that location for 17 years was great. Everything you'd expect from a professional from the initial "Hello" with a smile, to the "Can I help you find anything?" which she did. Not only did Lisa greet many customers as she led me all the way across the store to show me where my item was, but she also kept up friendly chit chat with me along the way. Now the bad. Unfortunately, it took about 20 minutes to find that level of customer service. The other employees I crossed paths with wouldn't look me in the eye and/or seemed more interested in flirting with each other (a gaggle of them were giggling and smiling with each other like high schoolers, blech). Having visited more than 10 stores in both IL and WI Menards customer service is below par. If Menards wants to take a look at their competitive edge, they may want to revamp the way their employees, especially the younger ones, address the needs of the very customers who can and will shop elsewhere. Menards is the work-horse of the home improvement big-box retail stores. This one in Fox Lake has been very handy for me and seems to have a lot of items that other Menards stores up here don't stock. Menards tends to offer items at consistently lower prices than any other hardware/lumber/home supply chain in the area. Need 6" pvc anything, this is the place. The only place, so far, that I've found to buy the stuff retail. Just for instance. This Menards has been recently remodeled in an attempt to standardize the stores, which has made "finding my cheese" a lot easier for this hardware store rat! But one thing; the new linear check out sucks, IMHO. The intuitive natural interface of "this is my space, this is the cashier's space" is gone. Worse, the cashier has to deal with customers on two fronts at once and it makes things awkward and confusing. I think they were going for the Ikea-like checkout concept, but missed it in their ergonomics. The staff at this store is usually helpful -- and there are some real standouts (Erik, my man, this is you!!) who have helped me time and time again in my ongoing MacGyverish efforts to use things for unintended purposes. If I have to choose, the Fox Lake Menards in my "go to" hardware store. read more

Called to see if a certain mower was in stock and I was told it was that they had 2 in fact, what they didn't tell me was one of them had been dropped several times and the other one was the floor model. As far as Menard's go this one is ok. The one star part of my review: I went to this Menards to buy a shower surround for my basement bathroom. We sat right by the plumbing help desk for about 10 minutes while a Menard's worker was on the phone. We literally turned around and he was gone... so we sat there another 10 minutes with out being helped....we left. The 5 star part of my review: So we went back the next day for the same reason. We were helped by a very nice guy in the plumbing department who got what we needed and answered our questions. Really a story of night and day customer service..so I guess it all depends on what day or time you go there. Don't expect too much and you will never be disappointed, sadly enough. read more

I don't even know where to begin. The customer service desk is full of lazy rude people. They clearly have no clue what they were doing. Purchased a bunch of lumber which no one told me they didn't have some of it in stock. No big deal. Checked back a week later. And still out of stock. Checked at the front desk to see if surrounding stores had it. Confirmed Woodstock did and was told I could use that pull ticket. Got to Woodstock and wasn't able to. Had to re purchase all the lumber and get it. Then drive all the way back to fox lake to get my money back from there. So much time and fuel and mileage wasted from start to finish. Horrible customer service! I wish there was a 0 star option b/c this store would get my vote for it!! I needed to run in and out quickly and just had to pick up one item. First off it was during the fluvid19 aka Covid18 that the news and fake numbers given out are for the flu and not the actual virus. So by all means please close your business if you want to buy in to this make believe killer flu!! But don't force people to be paranoid with you by making them wear a mask to even enter your store! Also it is not mandatory per our Governor, he said u must wear a musk if you can tolerate it. I stressed my concerns but was still asked to put on a mask to enter. I took it off on my way out and was rudely met by I guess who would be the manager yelling at me to keep my mask on! I kindly said not to worry because I wore the mask, and then just kept walking as she felt the need to express her disapproval with my choice not to believe in this made up pandemic!! I ordered a toilet tank @ Menards online, mostly because I broke my toilet tank that morning (don't ask, but yes, it was broken, and now that I look at it, it was funny). I need a particular toilet tank to go with a Mansfield toilet. I found it online. The ordering process was easy. Now we get to where things screwed up. Menards can't get me my toilet tank until June 26th. That's ten days to wait in a metro area with two large cities, Chicago and Milwaukee. We are flushing that toilet by bucket! I tried to cancel my order. There is supposed to be a button online to do that. No button. I called the store where I was going to have the order sent, Fox Lake. I was referred to Plumbing. I spoke with a young man who could do nothing. His manager was on break. I called the front desk. The cheerful young woman could do nothing until the manager came back from break- but I was told online there was a button I could use. No, there is not! I called the Plumbing Department several times. No, the manager was not back. I finally sent an email to Menards headquarters, detailing my situation. The reply: "I'm very sorry, but there would be a 25% restock fee on any cancelled special order or return, no matter the reason. Thank you for your patience and understanding." So what, there is a 25% restock fee!!! I need a toilet tank NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care about a $10 fee. I care about getting a tank on the back of my toilet so I don't have to flush with a bucket!!!!! That was before I met Missie. I called one more time, and Missie fixed everything. I now have my toilet tank. Why? Because Missie knows what to do. Menards- HIRE MORE MISSIES, and fewer of the other variety of employees. read more

We made the mistake of our lives. We made purchase of fireplace doors. Were told its. A special order which means anything ordered on line. We have never ordered on line before nor do they state anywhere on site that should it not fit properly. You lose your butt The purchase was 259.00 I just wanted to exchange product. Was told I can return it however, I would be charged 25 percent restocking fee. So out of 259.00 I got 196.00 back so they get product back plus your cash and then give attitudes when you ask why.that our policy. I said maybe you to post this info when ordering not after an have look for it in fine print. I would not purchase a bag of dog treats from them. My wife went on there website posted a review that they asked an because we complained it has yet to be posted. Do we still live in America what happened to freedom of speech. Perhaps if they really cared about customers they would rethink there processes. We wrote corporate got nothing other sorry that's our policy. Sorry not good enough these are tough times for all an they just feel like we can screw the next customer so we don't need repeat customers. My wife and I went in to this Menards on 7/4/15 looking for a 10 ft length of PVC, after asking 2 people where the plumbing section was and getting no answer from one, and just a point of a finger from the other we finally made our way to the plumbing section. We found the pipe I needed and asked an employee if he could cut it in half for me, so it could fit in my car. He just said "nope" and turned his back to us. I asked him why and he shrugged his shoulders and said "probably no saw", i told him, this was a hardware store and there are little PVC cutters you could use to help me out, I got literally no response from him as he turned his back to me and walked away. This is why I will choose to bring my business across the street to Home Depot now. This isn't the first time I've gotten sub par service here, but it will be the last. read more
