We recently bought tons of tiles for our home renovation. When we walked in we were super overwhelmed with all of the different options but we're so excited to adventure around. From tiles, to laminate to hard wood floor, marble slabs and so much more. Heck I wouldn't even be surprised if they had lions and bears too. Once we found the tiles we wanted, a staff member helped us calculate the boxes we needed, loaded up a cart for us and helped us bring it out to our car. Their return policy is totally fair too, they can take returns if they're in full cases but not opened ones. All in all. I had a great experience yesterday working with Markell. I would never describe myself as a handy person, so remodeling any part of my home can become overwhelming. Luckily I got some advice to make an appointment with Floor & Decor, and I'm so glad that I did. Markell listened to my thoughts and what I was looking for. He patiently explained the differences between products and gave me much needed insight. My contractor joined me during my appointment and helped too, Markell got that I was relying on my contractor to make some decisions for me, like do I want sanded or un-sanded grout. How would I know that? Markell never made me feel excluded. He never made me feel like he was man-splaining, which has happened to me plenty of times in home improvement stores. He even helped me load up my car. I really appreciated his kindness, patience and professionalism. I will definitely return to Floor & Decor, and I'd absolutely want to work with Markell again. I am a Chicago contractor that has recommended many of my clients to all Floor and Decor locations to shop, design, and purchase flooring (heated, laminate, tile, etc.). Today, I was shocked for once with the managerial and register service employees at this location. Let me start with being spoken too like I am stupid and I say this with all seriousness. I asked to return or swap out a laminate cutter for a bigger unit. I was asked why the return and replied with "It didn't cut the size laminate I needed for installation purposes". Since, I used the unit 1 time and not as a cutting tool. I was told "no" and "I should have known better". SMH.... After 8 years of referring my clients to these locations. Customer service is key and to have one sales clerk and manager be rude, belittling, tag teaming, and offensive is wrong. I hope many contractors read this because if your clients ever receive this kind of customer service. How would you feel and I hope you think twice about sending your clients to this location. read more

Good place to stop if you're planning some tilework. Not so hot if your time is precious and you're aiming for a surgical strike. PROS: -- Spacious store with good selection. CONS: -- Customer service is a struggle here. Went in looking for a specific tile I'd picked up months ago. (Tip: they seem to sell out of and stop carrying certain lines, so if you find one you like, get what you need then.) No joy on that old tile, so I grabbed a few similar samples to take back home. With just three tiles and credit card in hand -- and with two cashiers in a nearly-empty store -- I should be out the door in no time. Nope. At the register, my cashier actually stopped my transaction to rubberneck at some return another customer was coordinating with a manager-type. Stopped it cold. Despite her having nothing to do with that return. And DEALING WITH AN ACTUAL CUSTOMER STANDING IN FRONT OF HER. I have to get her attention a couple of times just to finish the transaction. Add on top of that the fact that -- after I had carefully carried these samples through the store and gingerly placed them on the countertop to protect them -- she just stacked them on top of each other with no mind to scratches ... I won't be abandoning Home Depot and Lowe's anytime soon. read more

Went there to purchase an item that online showed availability of 42 pieces. Drove 50 mins to find out only 7 pieces available. Mgr said should have called for 10 pieces I wanted even though site showed 42 and No apology or an offer from Brandon or Gordon! Disappointed that after spending a few grand there, mgr doesn't even offer to discount a replacement product that I ended up purchasing or even offering a simple apology. In today's web world, it is crazy for customer to have to call to confirm when website shows availability. I understand being short by a few pieces but not having even 10 pieces when online shows 42 is absurd. Brandon's and Gordon's way of dealing with the situation without an apology and a straight refusal to do anything for me as a customer was more frustrating! Just wanted to let everyone know that when you pay for delivery, it means they leave the floor in the street in front of your house. My 14 year old daughter and I (both about 130 lbs) just carried nearly 2 tons of laminate, underlayment and quarter round onto my house, in the dark, when I got home from work. I needed to find plain subway for the rest of the backsplash for my kitchen. It had to be the same width of my accent wall and the employees went above and beyond to help me find the right Color and width. I'm very happy with their selections and pricing. I had bought my tile awhile ago but my contractor finally had the time to install it. He said it would be extremely difficult to install the tile I had chosen. He suggested I return it and get something else. I was frantic as I needed new tile by the next day. I pleaded my case to Darrelle and she was a god send. She helped me return my old tile and picked out two new coordinating tiles to match my floor. I would have never been able to pick out these 2 combinations on my own. My daughter just bought a house and wanted to price flooring .i happened to be at the mall and walked in to see what they had. Mike approached me and showed me all around and explained the choices, pricing etc. He knew I wasn't buying and still spent a lot of time with me. My daughter and I decided to go to the one in Skokie since we live in the city. I asked for help and a woman said she would send someone over. The young man didn't seem to know anything and kept asking other employees . They said it was his 1st day but no-one offered to help us . We asked d for a designer but you have to make an apt . we left after 2 hrs . The following weekend We went back to Mike at Gurnee and he was fantastic. He layed the marble out on the floor so we could see how big we wanted it. He priced many options for us. He had Brittany , a designer , help with colors and she was great too. read more

The absolute WORST in customer service! I went into this location on Friday evening ONLY because my contractor suggested. The young lady who I encountered was rude and so unbothered in terms of assisting me. She made sure that I was reminded of the store hours. I asked about mesh tile which is used for shower floors; she literally told me, "nope, you must have the wrong store"... I asked if she would allow me to speak with her manager, she called him on her "walkie-talkie and he was just as rude...it sounded as though he was waking up from a nap. NO IM NOT EMBELLISHING THIS STORY. She looked to be approximately 18 - 21 with short hair and glasses; she had an annoying loud voice. When I first asked about the tile, she actually told me that the store is full of it...like yeah I'm aware of that you smart mouth kid, I'm in a TILE store! I will express to anyone I know that the service here is HORRIBLE. They have KIDS working as associates and managers; they lack knowledge of the product. It's so freaking hard to find good service. I happened to be speaking to Amado who I later found out was a manager. He was professional and courteous and arranged the shipment in a matter of minutes for an excellent price and date of delivery. Wonderful new store in Gurnee Mills!! Beautiful selection of all the latest and greatest in flooring, beautiful store and wonderful employees. I was helped by Gordon as well as Dominick and came home with beautiful 15mm laminate for a small project. I shopped at the Home Depot, Menards and Hobo and Floor and Decor hands down had the best pricing on my wood laminate flooring with the best color and thickness and 30 year residential warranty. Once I had paid for my order it was pulled and ready to be loaded into my van within 15 minutes, that's impressive especially when we are talking 1,200 pounds of flooring!! My dad and I originally met with Gordon a week ago, he explained everything in detail and did all the math and numbers like a wiz no joke, he knew all the flooring and the upsides and downsides to them and their installation and longevity - people PAY for such good advice. You will not get the service or prices elsewhere, I'm so glad they opened in Gurnee, so much closer than the Arlington Heights location which is wonderful too. We bought floors at this location and we had a plumbing issue that ruined some of the brand new floors. Unfortunately the floors we bought were on clearance and none of the locations had any more of it left. Jason, Alfred and Justin at the Gurnee location went above and beyond to help us out. They pulled floors off the door display, cleaned those sample floors and gave them to us to replace our damaged floors. They were professional, courteous and very helpful. I would like to compliment Kelly, the Pick-Up Warehouse Supervisor. On 4/12/18 I ordered tile online. When I arrived at the store to pick up my order, Kelly told me that she had tried to call me. There was not enough tile to complete my order. She contacted other stores and found enough tile. She had the Gurnee truck to pick up my tile & deliver it to Gurnee the next day. I had a contractor coming the next day to hang the tile and I didn't want my job delayed. If I did not receive the tile on Friday, the job would be delayed. Kelly called me at 9am on Friday and told me my tile had arrived. Kelly provided awesome customer service and was professional and courteous the entire time.
