I dined here last night for the first time celebrating a friend's birthday. Tentative staff. We liked our appetizers and flights of fun choices was good. BUT, my $38 steak special was so tough and not cooked medium as I had asked and barely warm. Creamed spinach was cold and really just a white colored mass with bits of spinach. I spent almost $300 there last night and woke up feeling like I was totally ripped off. unfortunately I will not return. I had high hopes. read more

I was so hoping to find a new restaurant to love based off the reviews. Unfortunately, our experience did not line up with others. The wait staff was very nice and there is a coziness to the the restaurant . Our server told us immediately that 2 of the 3 specials were no longer available. Being it was not late, (7:25) that was a little strange. Ok, then. We tried ordering an appetizer off the menu, and guess what...! They ran out. The restaurant was not crowded, so maybe someone didn't order enough provisions for the week? Another appetizer dip was well presented, but a "warm "salad came out HOT and was drowned in a balsamic dressing. Had two bites and left the rest. A repeat of a chicken entree that was under seasoned and drowning in a brown sauce. Everything on the plate was soaked in sauce.. the well done chicken pieces, the sweet potatoes the asparagus. Even the onion rings were brown. Soo disappointed. The veal dish was better, but the veal was hard all around the edges. Our server saw the meals barely touched and never asked if there was an issue, which was an epic mistake. What a fantastic experience 5 of us had at Off The Brook! We were all so impressed with our dishes, the taste as well as the presentation. The staff couldn't have been more attentive, even though the restaurant was packed! I strongly urge making a reservation first. Run, don't walk to this gem in Merrick! Pictured is 1/2 spaghetti squash with shrimp, tomatoes, spinach in a white wine reduction. Sooooooo delicious. Not sure I've ever seen spaghetti squash on a menu... Alisha (the owner) and Jackie (the bartender/server) are so wonderful and the food is always delicious! Everything has a unique little twist that makes it extra special. The beet + goat cheese salad with salmon on top is SO good, and my mom had the warm salad with grilled chicken, which she loved. They need move serving staff and another bartender I would have loved a second cocktail but waitress only took our order and never returned to the table. Very limited parking, one cook , one waitress and bartender who sometimes is waiting table, long wait for service and food, the menu is limited and pricey. Don't ask about pricing, the waiter will not return to your table. Do not recommend this eater. One of the worst establishment to patron. read more

Was here a few weeks ago and can't stop talking about how "Off the Hook" this place is! Pictures you see here don't do enough justice. The food is both artwork and delicious!! Wish I took pictures of everything we ate but I just couldn't wait to dig in! Food, service, atmosphere - all so good! Had the white wine mussels app (traditional flavor with a little bit of heat and served over seasoned fries, beyond anything ordinary), stuffed artichoke app special (huge and so yum), seared scallops on risotto app special (so perfectly seared, just wow!) Hubby had the calamari app and a burger, said both were excellent. Thrilled to have this gem in Merrick. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommend! read more

Last night my husband and I visited off the Brook for the first time! I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant! The ambience is cozy and comfortable! But the food... Oh, my God! We started with the zucchini chips and the stuffed artichoke as an appetizer. For dinner my husband had the salmon and I had the fig chicken. The presentation was absolutely beautiful but the food was even better! Then our server recommended the napoleon! It was absolutely the most delicious thing that I ever ate!!! You must try this restaurant if you have not tried it yet! You will not be disappointed! read more

Very disappointing. Nothing special about the menu - Off the Brook Veal dish was extremely unappealing. A VERY small piece of pounded veal with a clump of cheese and overdone piece of prosciutto laid on top. Very little flavor. Served with plain steamed broccoli and "home fries" - hmmm home fries for a $28 dinner? Chicken francese not as terrible but I've had better - AND served with the same steamed broccoli and "home fries". Will not be going back! read more

This resturant is amazing. I eat alot of places and I will 100% tell you to visit this place. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and the food is off the charts. The new owner is present and on point. The entire staff is very detailed oriented. They take the time to get to know you if you want or leave you be if thats what you like. Did I say the food is amazing? Don't believe me? I went to Off the Brook because of reviews I had seen here and because of positive reviews from a FB group. I was excited to see what this place was all about especially since Left Coast was such a staple in our lives, even through the pandemic. I was very hopeful, but I couldn't even give it more than 1 star. The cocktail I ordered, a Brushfire Mule, was excellent, but that's where the love ended. We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer and I immediately regretted suggesting this as a place to dine. The crabcakes came with an apple chutney. The apple chutney was applesauce and the crabcakes had imitation crab. It did have some crab but I have never seen imitation crab in a crabcake. Next came the entrees, my dining partner got the Off the Brook Veal. The dish looked disgusting it had a huge glob of goat cheese wrapped in spinach. All sitting on top of the veal pieces which makes sense because they were so small. The dish oddly came with a side of home fries. My dish was one of the specials, Shrimp Broccoli Rabe and man was it bad. Basically seems like this place buys Restaurant Depot frozen food and defrosts it to sell. This has quickly become a new favorite for us. Excellent drinks, food and service. The fried calamari is fresh and delicious. Spinach dip with their unique chips is so yummy. Had a great Saturday date night at Off the Brook! The ambiance makes for a neat casual evening. The waiters/waitresses were extremely kind and checked in with us frequently throughout our meal. For our meals, we ordered a Warm Salad and Linguini with White Clam Sauce. The Warm Salad was stacked high with vegetables and the pasta was quite tasty. We are looking forward to our next meal here and would recommend to friends. read more

It's a shame that Left Coast isn't here anymore and that this is what has gone in its place. Started off with the fact that we made open table reservations and when we got there they couldn't find the reservation, we had to pull up the confirmation to show them and then she said oh ok well luckily I have a table available. And if she didn't?? This should have been the first sign but alas...The food was awful!! I had a hamburger that tasted like a greasy fast food burger on a stale bun (the French fries were the only good part). My table also ordered a salad with grilled chicken that resembled something of a rubber consistency. We ordered 4 seltzer's and then had two refilled - they charged $3.50 per seltzer and per refill... ABSURD for carbonated water, not even at a fancy upscale restaurant have I seen that much and without free refills for seltzer water!!! Aside from everything tasting horrible, the food was EXTREMELY overpriced. The waitress was kind and attentive but the food lacked everything, and the price point was way off.
