I wanted to shout out this place Uncle Franks in Wantagh. Checked it out last night after a long time oj my todo list. If i lived closer i woudl be there all the time, they have a lot of my favorite things. The craft cocktails were really good, creative and tasty. The wine selection offered food options. The house salad was had a delicious dressing and the pizzas were terrific, we had meatball and supresstta (meatball was better). The home made vanilla gelato may be the best i ever had. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I would def return here, if you around the area check them out. They also offer a good happy hour and it has a pretty bar area. Well the meatballs were devoured before I could take the picture. The artichokes were delicate and perfect. The broccolini has a southwest flavor to the sauce which was also a bit spicy. Came here for a private party and pleasantly surprised is an understatement. I thought the name of the place was a little cheesy at first (pizza puns aside), but didn't want to pass any judgment till I was able to try the place. And I'm glad I didn't. Turns out the guy that owns Frank's is the same guy who owns one of my other favorite spots in town, Blackbird, so my hopes are now pretty high. Atmosphere is nice, generally a modern bar/bistro style, they didn't opt to lean into the traditional Italian scenery that a lot of places in the area like to do. Good amount of space, but it can fill up quickly when things get busy. Starting with drinks, they have a great selection and I highly recommend "One of the Boys" or "Oak Trees" as far as cocktails go. Both citrusy and on the sweeter side. Also have a good selection of wines and beers from local breweries like Northport and Sand City if mixed drinks aren't your thing. Food was also great. The kale Caesar is fresh and well dressed, crab cakes are light but flavorful, shrimp cocktail is simply done as it should be but the quality of what they use really prevails. But let's get to the namesake, the pizza. I go with the rule of thumb that if you don't do a good plain slice, you aren't gonna do the rest any better, and Frank's has a perfectly good plain. They do a more neapolitan style pizza, which I think is the perfect format for bar style pizza. My favorite pizza was definitely the pepperoni and hot honey though. All great quality ingredients and not greasy at all. For the more formal entrees their vodka sauce and their meatballs rival the quality of my own mother's (don't tell her!). Staff was friendly, attentive, and quick to serve the whole party, never feeling like we were waiting around for anything. Parking can be a little tight in the attached lot, but there is a lot of parking just nearby in the municipal lots or on the street that shouldn't have too much of a problem finding a spot. Would be glad to come back here on my own accord, as Uncle Frank has won my heart and is a VAST improvement from the bar that had been the location prior. read more

Limited menu: no seafood, no grilled chicken, just chicken cutlet. My wife had a house salad with no protein. Expensive: Eggplant Rollatini - $22. OK, it's pricey, but I'm willing to pay for quality and quantity. Small portions: The dish served was "four finger-sized" Eggplant Rollatini - nothing else. I asked for bread. No bread. I finally demand the manager give me bread and I got it. I was still hungry, I asked for pasta. I got a fist-size bowl of spaghetti - $16. I complained to the manager. She was so uncaring. Perfectly comfortable in saying no, didn't care about the customer experience, and if I didn't come back - fine with her. The manager took 50% off the pasta. We got out of there with a $50 bill. I didn't leave a tip. I looked at the 49 Uncle Frank's reviews in Yelp - 16 reviews, or 33% complained about high prices. Came here on a Friday night and sat at the bar. I was in the mood for something a little different, so I ordered the Cacio e Pepe pie. I didn't know what to expect. Would there be spaghetti on the pie? How can Cacio e Pepe possibly work on pizza? Well, I was so glad I decided to try it. The drinks are on point, delish and presented well. The pizza was fantastic and separated on the menu by red sauce pizza and white pizza. I'll start with the good. They participated in LI PIZZA STRONG. That's why we tried this place. Also the pizza is fantastic. Hot and fast. We got the fresh mozzarella one. Two pies was good for three people. Now the not-so-good. The glasses are very very very small. They give free refills on soda ($3) but lemonade, at $5, was in the same small glass and there were no free refills. Come on. Also when I paid, I purposely used debit to avoid the credit processing fee. They charged the fee anyway. I complained and the manager didn't know the difference between debit and credit. I told them I am not going to fight over $1.50 but they need to fix their system to know the difference. Service was mediocre. Nice waiter. Didn't come over fast enough to offer refills, I had to ask about it. And the bus boy wanted to clear the table faster than we could eat. It wasn't busy, I don't know what the rush was. Finally, the ambience. I can't tell if they are a family restaurant or a fancy restaurant. I think they would be more successful if they got rid of the candles, mood lighting, cloth napkins, and "sparking water" and went all-in on family with brighter lights, paper napkins, and bread on the table fresh from the pizza oven. The wood fired oven definitely makes a difference. And the smaller size pizza was just perfect for the two of us. And our waitress, super! Went here for dinner with a few friends for the first time and will definitely be back. The restaurants has a really nice vibe and the food and drinks were very good. All of the drinks had really fun italian names. I got the Bada bing which is basically an aperol spritz and it was delicious. For food we tried the clams, Arancini balls and Crispy Artichokes. The clams had great flavor but were a little fishy but the arancini balls and artichoke were both amazing. We tried three different pizzas the uncle franks which was a classic favorite, Hot Soppressata, and corn and chorizo. All were very tasty.
