Yes if it is the weekend you will have to wait... but I would absolutely wait another 30 minutes for those pancakes. There's coffee while you wait and a neat Little Library to keep you busy while you're outside next door. We got the pancake combo that came with 2 gigantic pancakes, bacon, and eggs. The best $7.99 you could ever spend. They serve them with warm syrup, that is likely nothing too unique, but that heated bottle made each bite perfect. We also ordered 1/2 of the Rosebud, which is basically the Kitchen Sink with Biscuits and Gravy. So good. The crunchy potatoes and grilled bell peppers and onion mixed in with the diced ham were full of texture and great flavor. While it was a little too salty for my own personal taste, likely because of the ham, I still ate the entire plate. Staff were amazing, friendly, and must have refilled our coffee three times. Despite the chaos, they smiled the entire time, and made it the best breakfast we have had in Gilroy. read more

This is one of my favorite places to get breakfast in South Bay. The only negative is that there are SO many people during the weekends and it takes forever to get a table. Once you're inside, you really have to wait for the waiter to drop by your table (flagging them down takes forever as well). The food doesn't come out that quickly either so overall it's a long process but it's worth it in the end! Once you're inside, their menu is pretty standard but their most popular dishes are the Kitchen Sink/Rosebud and omelettes. Their dishes are huge and I think you can easily share any dish between two people. Also, if you are wondering what the difference is between the Kitchen Sink and Rosebud, the main difference is that the Rosebud has gravy on top. I personally prefer the Rosebud because the gravy is so good! 1. Rosebud 5/5 My fave here! Their gravy is just amazing. I haven't really seen this kind of dish in any other diners I've been to so maybe this is a specialty item from O.D.'s. 2. Kitchen Sink 5/5 You can ask for gravy on the side if you want two eggs on top as well as gravy. 3. O.D.'s Special omelette 4/5 Typical omelette that is loaded with ingredients but they do it really well! 4. California omelette 4/5 I love the sprouts and avocado on top of the omelette! The hubby & I have been going to OD's kitchen for years! I introduced OD's kitchen to the hubs when we started dating in 2005. My favorite thing on the menu is The Half a kitchen sink (diced potatoes/ham/peppers/onion) w/melted shredded cheese & an egg on top (I usually get it sunny side up & use the yolk as like a gravy) & get an English muffin as my toast. The hubby always gets the short stack pancakes but, don't let the name fool you. These pancakes are as big as the plate! Everywhere we go, we always compare the pancakes to OD's pancakes & no other place can beat them. The syrup is kept nice & warm & you get a good amount of it. They don't skimp. Everything I've eaten here has been great. The service has always been superb (have never had an issue) & the place was just recently Renovated & looks great. The place has had a full renovation but hasn't lost the charm & feeling of OD's. If you're looking for great service, a full tummy of great food, do yourself a favor & go to OD's. read more

This is a dinner atmosphere. I walked in on a Weekday around 10am and it was still quite busy. I handed the menu upon entering and told that I could sit at any open table. The service was friendly but rather a bit slow upon taking the food order. The omelette seemed quite plain and lacked flavor. We were in Gilroy on Sunday 8/28 as we were camping/staying in Gilroy nearby. It looked like a small mom & pop business. Getting a table for 11 people was hard but the wait was not long. We got there around 11:30AM and was seated by 12PM. Took us about 30 minutes to get a table for 11 of us. We were seated at 2 separated tables across from each other and they were friendly enough to grabbed us another seat for another person who came last minute. Every employee that we encounter were friendly, nice and helpful fulfilling our orders and checking on us to see if we needed anything. The food was amazing. Most of us got the Rosebud and their special which was the Very Berry French Toast. Asking my friend and they said both the Rosebud and the French Toast were delicious! If I was to go again I would try the French Toast and see how it taste The full Rosebud plate was huge. I manage to finish the whole plate while a few of my friends only finished half their plates. They have outdoor seating as well so its nice to enjoy the weather and eat some delicious food. Come support a small business!! read more

We haven't been to OD's for over a year. We went today to celebrate my husband's birthday. Oh man it was like we were in food heaven. I had the Kitchen Sink end husband had Rib Eye steak and eggs. Of course we had to have a fluffy, best ever pancake for dessert. The meals, as always, were large and filling. We took our leftovers home and had burritos for dinner. We still have some left for breakfast. They are following all the Covid policies and we chose to eat inside. This has been our breakfast place since they opened in 1987. Stopped in for breakfast.  Ordered a rib eye steak and eggs.  Food is good.  Steak was cooked to order.  Only downside was all the fat I ended trimming off.  Eggs were cooked just right to go along with the steak.  Potatoes were nicely seasoned.  Friendly service.  Place is really old school.  Layout is all over the place.  From the front, it looks like it is just several tables.   Off to the side is another room.  Further back is the the bathroom and another room of tables.  I sat at a single table with one chair in the corner.  It looks like it was stuffed in the corner.  The counter is right in front of the door so it got a little crowded with people paying and people being called in to be seated. read more

What a great little place! Came here around 10am on a Saturday morning with my boyfriend. There was a line outside so I thought there might be a long wait but we were seated immediately. The wait was only for groups larger than 2. There were many 2 top tables open but a wait for the 4 tops. We ordered the F.B.D. and split it between the two of us. They were nice enough to put it on two separate plates in the kitchen for us. I asked the server what F.B.D. stood for and he told us "Fat Boys Delight" and indeed, I was delighted. The portion is so large I still had food left over from my 1/2 portion. It was a biscuit with gravy, chicken fried steak, eggs, and a hash with ham, peppers, and onion. While it was all good, I could not get enough of the gravy! If they served the gravy in a cup I could probably sip it like a soup. It's some of the best white gravy I have ever had. This is the gravy I will compare all future gravy's to. And a meal for two people at $16, you can't really beat that price either. If I ever find myself in the neighborhood again, I will definitely be stopping by. read more

I really really prefer this place instead of the other breakfast/brunch restaurants in Gilroy, if not here then papas and eggs, instead of going to a franchise like dennys nor black bear. Outdoor seating only due to Covid virus and this staff still hit a home run. Our first visit to Gilroy, albeit native Californians, we stopped here because the smells coming from the kitchen held our attention. Everyone is wonderful, they work as a team. The food is amazing. Have been visiting this restaurant from time to time, decor is very divey, portions are huge, pricing is perfect. TODAY they have won a customer for for life! I walked in with a hungry 3 year old extremely excited to eat in a restaurant! As I entered at 1:01 PM a number of employees emphatically spoke how they were closed (door wide open bunches of customers still seated and eating some not served yet). I thought "no problem there's always Black Bear, Yolked, & Country Waffles". Then suddenly a bold and confident voice from the kitchen sends a message to one of the wait staff to me "The boss wants you to stay!" THAT is CUSTOMER SERVICE!! We were the last to be seated but still left before other customers who entered before us. The pancakes are enormous! The hash browns are crispy on the entire outside and delicious! The turkey sandwich is filled with fresh turkey and stuffed with tomatoes lettuce and extremely fresh onions - such detail in a turkey sandwich! MUCH Kudos and thanks to this owner/manager - whomever the "boss" was today who made the right call as opposed to watching the clock. Little did they know that now that I know they close so early I will not take advantage in the future and respect their closing time and arrive before instead of after 1! We had high expectations going in based on the how many recommendations we've gotten to come here but we were actually really disappointed. We recently moved to gilroy and have been looking for a go to breakfast spot so we wanted to give ODs and shot. Our breakfast came out delayed and cold. Then the dishes we actually ordered were not bad food wise but nothing something we would really return for. Everything was pretty standard breakfast fare bordering bland. It wasn't bad food though and we were starving so we ate our now cold food anyway. Every time we tried to get the attention of a server they would avoid eye contact. I understand you are busy but at least let me know you saw me and you'll get to me. There's no way you didn't see me try to politely get your attention. Our drinks didn't get filled again until we finally got someone to bring us the check and then when we had our card out and ready nobody came by. We'll maybe give this place another shot in case it was a fluke but the way we see it it's unlikely. read more

Warm, comforting, generous, and delicious! OD's Kitchen was a no-brainer to try after seeing the fantastic Yelp score and hundreds of reviews that boasted how great the food was. The restaurant is located in a tiny alleyway with parking stalls in front, although we presume it would be difficult to find parking during peak hours. Lucky for us, we were having a later lunch so we didn't have any trouble. The diner itself is interestingly shaped and doesn't necessarily win any awards in terms of decor. However, the service is friendly and we liked the family-like ambiance of the place. We felt welcomed there. For our lunch, the hubby chose the Kitchen Sink with eggs over medium while I got the OD's Special omelette with a side of house potatoes and an English muffin. It didn't take long for our food to arrive and our mouths watered at the sight of them. I loved my omelette from the first bite to the last. It was packed with tons of bell peppers, tomatoes, cheese, sausage, and ham. The eggs were fluffy and seasoned incredibly well. Even the house potatoes were delightful, although I do wish they were a tad softer. The hubby finished his entree without a single complaint, liking the charred pieces of potatoes and how perfectly his eggs were cooked. Everything tasted great! Some would think it's homey but feels like a game room that is old and needs sprucing up. The room needs to feel inviting. I'd call the TV restaurant guy! Maintain cleanliness in restrooms and suspect kitchen. Food was adequate but presentation appeared sad. Pricing was competitive. We decided to check out OD's and fill up with breakfast before heading out for a day of hiking. I had some pretty high expectations with the reviews on yelp and that's never a good thing. Having high expectations that is. We snatched a parking spot right out front and got a table quickly. I was expecting a fancier atmosphere--instead, OD's is your typical diner with several oddly shaped rooms. Our table ended up being right by the door. I was dressed for the high temps that day but being California, the morning was still chilly and the draft made me cold. Luckily, my dining companion was very chivalrous and changed seats with me. The service was excellent and the food was good. The potatoes that came with my omelette needed some salt but they were very generous when it comes to portion sizes. I did not order the Kitchen Sink myself but I did steal several bites and it was quite tasty. The prices are very reasonable but I wish the menu had a bit more excitement and variety. Overall, it did the job and my breakfast kept my hunger at bay until we finished hiking. I'd give them 3.5 stars but I'm going to go ahead and bump them up to 4 because hey. Whether or not breakfast is the most important meal of the day is debatable, but thanks to OD's, breakfast is definitely the tastiest meal of the day! Make no mistake - OD's is not health food. Eating here regularly will probably shave years off your life. But do you think they care? The wife and I ordered the following to share: * Kitchen Sink ($8.29): fried potatoes with ham, bell peppers and onions, sauteed with cheddar cheese and two eggs, with your choice of toast. * Steak and Cheese Omelette ($9.49): egg omelette made with steak, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms and jack cheese. Served with choice of country potatoes or hash browns, and your choice of toast. If the descriptions sound like a lot of food, that's because that's exactly what you get. Portion sizes are huge, and we left with some leftovers. I enjoyed the omelet with its ample ingredients, though the steak was somewhat of a letdown because it was overcooked to a well done. I opted for hash browns with this entree, and they were fried to golden perfection yet not greasy! The Kitchen Sink was equally huge and every bite was delicious, but unfortunately it was a bit on the greasy side. The restaurant was a little dirty. There was food on the carpet that wasn't picked up, and the trashcan in the bathroom was overflowing with paper towels. For these issues, refer again to the sign on the wall. Overall, the food was a solid 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up due to the excellent value you get. Your dollar, like your waistline, will stretch reasonably here. read more
