So after I went there for my 60th birthday in 2014 and had an evening unlike the one that I had hoped for, (please read my previous post), I decided to give them another try. I mean, after all, things don't always go smoothly for a number of circumstances. So, we went back the following year for my 61st birthday. It was just my husband and me. When we walked in, we definitely felt a "chill" from Chef Calisi and his staff. They had always been so gracious and welcoming in the past. I guess he must have read my post on Yelp about my birthday the year before. I felt like it was honest and may have been helpful in letting him know how to avoid problems in the future with booking and seating people. So this visit, he never came over to say hello like he had done all the other times. Well, we ordered. My husband's dish was delicious. I ordered a dish that was supposed to have 3 jumbo prawns in it. But what I received was a dish with shrimp. I thought okay, I am not going to make a big deal out of it because maybe they ran out of the prawns and will come over and tell me. Well, I took the first bite and the shrimp was so dry and old tasting, like something that had been out for hours, or worse, maybe taken out of the garbage. I thought maybe they just overcooked it. So, I took another bite and then asked my husband to take a small bite. He said that is not good...don't eat it! We didn't send it back but I did not eat it. My husband told the waiter and he went over and spoke to the Chef. The chef was standing at the counter and he never even looked our way and came over to ask if there was anything else he could offer. It was so obvious to both of us that there was something wrong with the way that he reacted and never even looked our way. They took if off our bill and we left....I got home and spent the next 3 days, throwing up and having diarrhea. We have never gone back....and we used to frequent that restaurant at least once every month spending approximately $200 on dinner. I wished I had posted this sooner, but I didn't want to come off as some vindictive witch.
So my husband called me this morning and told me to read the article on Odeum switching out the fish. He said I would be vindicated. I think it is just sad that Chef Calisi would do this to his customers, but also to himself. He has now ruined his reputation and probably his business. He definitely has culinary talent, but I think his integrity is definitely questionable.
Lastly, I would like to say that the night of my 60th birthday, when we were leaving the restaurant, he stopped us to ask about our evening and I told him what had happened with the seating arrangement and how we were disappointed that a lot of entrees that we had raved about were no longer on the menu. There were several other tables nearby that overheard our discussion with him, and agreed with us, encouraging him to bring those items back. But as we were discussing, our daughter walked up to tell us that they were waiting outside and getting cold. He stopped mid sentence, gave her the once over, and proceeded to flirt with her in our presence. It made me so angry, because it was rude, but also, so disgustingly lecherous. I tried overlook that because she is an extremely beautiful, young woman. I am not kidding. She was asked to model in Milan and turned it down. Anyways, to do something like that, and in the presence of the parents, is unconscionable and pretty "ballsy". I kind of wish now that my husband would have "decked" him for that. I know this has nothing to do with his skills as a chef. but it speaks volumes about his character and professionalism.
I am only giving one review because I have to do so to get this posted. read more
