This place has a fascinating vibe to me. They have rotating sushi chefs for the omakase experience, which is whet my friend and I did. There's also a way to just book for the listening lounge experience with access to some cocktails. For the meal, we ended up doing a sake pairing. There was a chirashi add on, which we did as well. Not cheap but it was a night of decadent splurge. For me, the aesthetics of the place was my favorite. The sushi meal was at this small counter but in a larger industrial converted space. There's a small seating area while we waited, and we passed by a long table that looks like would be great for a tea ceremony. There's also the lounge areas I mentioned that has projections, an inside-outside, and various types of chairs. The bathroom was a bit different too. It was all open and not much walls, but you could tell the different ambiance within the floor.

Loved my experience at ODETOKYO! Highly recommend. One of my favorite new Japanese spots in the city. Note: Recommend parking on 6th St as there is limited parking on Tehama and they are strict about 1 hr parking--you may get a ticket. It's a non-descript location and you'll need to ring the doorbell when you arrive. I loved the people (Larisa is amazing; pre-visit and attentive as needed during dinner), the sushi is fresh, delicious, and carefully prepared by a rotating cast of top-tier sushi chefs from other iconic establishments in the city, the music is great, and they have a mixologist on-site if you want more than sake. Or zero-proof/NA beverages! Vibe is chill and you can have a social experience at the community table, interact with the sushi chefs, or an intimate experience in one of their many corners. They offer 2 dining experiences: a la carte + sake and a 16-course omakase (6p & 8:30p). Their chirashi bowls and sashimi are and reasonably priced for the city. I can't wait to come back for the full omakase. My only wish is for them to be open MORE NIGHTS so I can come all the time :)

After a cancelled reservation, we finally got to try this omakase. It was intimate and private. The area was a little sketchy as I was waiting for my friend so someone from the restaurant came to get me outside. He also waited till our Ubers arrived when we were ready to leave. Because the restaurant cancelled our previous reservation they comped me and my friend drinks all throughout the experience. The fish was fresh and the chef knew where it was coming from. If you enjoy high quality fish and willing to splurge a bit, I definitely recommend.

The Epicure Omakase experience was amazing. Ambiance was great and the omakase was delicious. The staff was also very attentive and made the meal and the concept of the restaurant a great experience.

Amazing atmosphere and fun and friendly service. Very welcoming environment and relaxed. The food is top-notch. It's like a symphony. The drinks are well-crafted. Lumited selection but well curated to match with the dishes.

I got a seasonal special donburi (Gouka Kani Donburi) as they shared they were adding new items to their menu. The crab on top of the rice was SO good and perfectly seasoned to go with the dish. All of the fresh sashimi was very thick, salmon was clean tasting and buttery. I have never tried the sweet shrimp but it may be my new favorite thing. All sides also perfectly complemented the main dish. Our server so sweet and thoughtful. She was very attentive and considerate throughout our meal. My friend's dishes all were very beautiful and tasted so nice too! The store is on the smaller side but can accommodate party of 4 comfortably. Larger parties may be more difficult to seat but I am sure they can help with reservations to accommodate.

We tried a bunch of different things and I'm glad that we did because the nigiri was not the best thing on the menu. I would come back here for the other things like the box set (otoro, wagyu, uni, ikura). The agedashi tofu was the best I've ever had. The teacup steamed egg was presented well but for the price nothing really that special. I suspect the price is high because of the caviar & ikura. It's not bad, but it takes a while, it's small and not anything that stood out like the agedashi tofu or the other items. The service was really good. They provided a small dessert for us because we were celebrating an event, that was a nice touch. Overall, id come back but maybe not for an omakase or just nigiri.

The karaage was fried well but it was very salty and sweet at the same time. Yosedofu is not my thing. Maybe I just don't like cold tofu but it's just tofu with ginger, scallions and bonito flakes. Negima was ok. A bit dry and very small piece. Tsukune was ok but they charge $3 for a sauce which is basically just an egg yolk. Tonkatsu felt like they boiled the pork chop and then fried it. Oden was very underwhelming. Thr mochi thing was unique but I didn't like it. One of the pieces was just a daikon that tasted like a daikon... We even got a panna cotta on the house! I liked that the restaurant now pays attention to the ordering of the dishes served - all the sushi and cold items came first, and then the hot protein. The only thing that deters us from going more often is the price - the 5% sf health mandate fee plus tax and 20% tips means you are adding 35% on top of the menu prices. Got a few bites of the tofu puffs, but not much fish cake. Mentaiko spaghetti ($19) - not super creamy and with good flavor. Usually with these types of dishes, I'm concerned that it's too buttery or fishy, but this was spot on! Gyudon ($19) - egg looked like it was cooked beautifully. Katsu curry ($22) - good presentation, seemed to have quite a bit of rice. I didn't try the last two dishes, but I was told they were good. Nothing crazy special though. We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. The pacing of the meal allows you to appreciate each course without feeling rushed, and the team's attention to detail creates a rhythm that keeps the meal engaging from start to finish. Kusakabe feels like a place made for special occasions, celebrations, or anyone looking for a more elevated Japanese dining experience. It combines technique, hospitality, and creativity in a way that makes the entire meal feel like an event rather than just a dinner.
