Side Bar is the new coffee shop where Coffee Grounds used to be and with Oddside Ales as the owners. They did a beautiful job renovating the outdated coffee shop. It looks like the kind of hipster coffee shop that Grand Haven needed . And they've won in my book already because they have a matcha tea latte!! Although I would prefer it to come unsweetened. They have a fun menu made with local coffee such as Madcap and some of their items are copy cats of their beers such as the Mayan Mocha. They also have cold brew(and cold brew shakes), smoothies, hot chocolate(Nutella, s'mores etc), signature lattes and tea(iced/hot). They have a small food menu including quiches, donuts and muffins. I asked where they get their donuts and they come from D&W Market but are hopefully working on making their own and expanding their food menu. Not totally impressed with it as of now but I believe they have only been open around 2 months. What's cool is that their owners, Oddside Ales, is connected and you can transition from coffee and studying to beer with friends! Beware that Oddside is currently under construction but their expanding so that's exciting! Definitely worth checking out this new great addition to downtown GH. read more

Was really excited to come here. Atmosphere was fine, selections were numerous. My lady and I ordered two flights. Bartender was a bit disrespectful, but he was just trying to be jokey. We got our brew and paid...$30!! Are you kidding me? What a rip off! This is a row of 5 tasters, nowhere near worth $15 a piece. We were pissed because it blindsided us. The board had no prices for flights listed. This was way overpriced. The biggest kick was that my lady hates three of the pours. Ruined the visit for us. Really bummed me out. I've been here once before and had an equally positive experience. Hats off to OSA for managing their business with such diligence amidst a pandemic. The tables were spread apart, staff was masked, and service (including the menu) was contact-less other than delivery of drinks/food of course. We scanned a QR code on the table and it pulled up their full menu and food delivery options on our phones. Genius. Our server checked on us multiple times as did management. The beers were incredibly affordable and the menu has a drink for everybody. Happy to support a business that is taking public safety seriously while providing their best product/service!! read more

I was stoked to go to Oddside (we came to grand haven specifically for this place). Decor was my favorite! Absolutely stunning interior. Not gonna lie, I was annoyed with how poor the service was. It really put a negative vibe on my first experience there. Idk if they pool tips, but it seemed we didn't have a consistent server. The bartenders were the servers and stayed behind the bar the entire time. I got a "look" when I asked for a paper menu because my phone was at 7% and it's an electronic menu. I check all my beers in untapped so I was nervous my phone would die. Then it took 20 minutes for the bartender to pick up my flight list sheet. No one came to check up or bring us our tab (when it was close to last call too), so we had to go to the bar. All three bartenders weren't personable. It was just "do you have a tab" and "here you go". If they don't have servers with sections or bartenders that check on tables often, then they need to have a place at the bar to order and pay for drinks instead like other breweries do. read more

I just wish this place was closer for me. This truly is one of my favorite breweries to visit. I used to love the old set up and thought it was pretty great, but the new place blows the old place out of the water. They have a f*ckton of beers of draft. I cannot think of a more elegant way to put that - seriously, incredible amount of draft beer to choose from. What's more impressive is how delicious the beer is. I loved the pales, IPAs, and sours. My favorite is definitely Imperial Mayan Mocha - it packs a delicious heat. Another positive is that restaurants deliver here easily. I cannot remember where we ordered from, but the food was delicious! We had some type of BBQ nachos and a cranberry spinach salad. I accidentally found this taproom today while browsing Yelp for a lunch spot. I didn't realize odd side ales had a tap room in the downtown area. Win! There is no signage on the front of the building, which was odd. Even with my Yelp map, I had trouble finding this place. I ordered a delicious Pineapple Dank Juice. It's an east coast IPA with pineapple. This might be my new favorite beer. Well balanced and not overpowered with hops like all the other IPA's out there. I also ordered the Bacon Apple Gouda Melt sandwich. It was good, but not the "holy shit this is good" feeling. I would try something else next time. The ambiance in here is cool. It is modern classic, with wood plank walls and brick exterior. It looks old but feels new. They get 5 stars for this. Overall, I would rate a 4 1/2 if possible. read more

Our bartender, I think his name was Gary, was very nice, gave us a little history on the building, helped us with things to do in the area and most importantly the beer was probably the best craft beer I have ever had!!! Great space, seriously upscaled since we've been here last, and the expansion and classy decor includes a "side bar" that's a coffee bar with even more seating. Beer selections are amazing and service was good & friendly for us (after our first try to gain entrance the night before - they locked people out long before close, which was seriously uncool). Overall, a must-do when you're in GH even if you're not a big beer person, and unquestionably if you are. Cool and lively hangout. The nitro bean flicker beer is a must try! Plenty of chairs and tables to sit inside and outside. Free darts and board games to play. Being from NYC, a $3 craft beer is unheard of. My friends and I arrived pretty late so the coffee part of this place was closed but I would've loved to try the milkshake on the menu. We were disappointed with our experience at Odd Side. We're huge beer fans hailing from the Chicago area and were stopping at a couple breweries in W Michigan last week/weekend. Upon walking in, nobody greeted us, said hello or even offered to take our order. It was pretty slow and mid-day so we were a little confused about why we were being ignored. It turns out that there were some real BROS working behind the bar who cared more about their buddies sitting at the bar than interacting with anyone else. There were tons of beers on draft and once we found some paper and pencils to create our own flights we set them on top of the bar, were barely acknowledged and served our beers without any semblance of eye contact. The beers are decent but we were totally let down with the experience. It's also super hard to find/no sign. A confusing experience for sure, and unfortunately, you only have one chance to make a good first impression. read more

First time writing a review where I have to watch what I say to abide by the 'review guidelines'. There are places in Michigan that are hostile to out of towners. This is one of them. The guy working behind the bar on July 7th, is clueless about customer service, has a chip on his shoulder and has no idea how to talk to customers let alone know not to complain about customers to other customers. I travel to Grand Haven just to go to Odd Side. They have solid beer and I am never disappointed. Even with the change of seasons and the change of beer styles, they always have something I really enjoy which I cannot say the same for most places. The location is a bit odd but once you know it kinda feels like only the cool kids know where it is which can be a fun part of the whole experience. They don't have food but you can bring in your own. They have darts you can play, community tables, private tables, the bar, comfortable lounge chairs and couches to enjoy. There are some board games floating around too! In the summer there is a patio part too when you can relax outside and enjoy your beer. The staff is helpful and friendly. There is no table service so you do have to head to the bar to order your drinks, this isn't an issue though of crawling over people because they have a designated spot to order your beer at! This is by far the best bar in Grand Haven. Their drinks, ciders, and wines are well crafted and always taste good unlike most alcohol. Let me be upfront and clarify the four stars is for the beer and eclectic atmosphere...service and personality of staff is closer to one star! My husband and I were up in Grand Haven for a long Labor Day weekend and decided to explore downtown on Friday evening. We happened to park in the lot where the brewery is located and the large neon "Brewery" sign captured our attention. We wandered in and found seats at the bar. They have an extensive list of beers (no food, just drinks - you can carry in food or have it delivered). The female bartender eventually greeted us and asked what we would like. We explained that it was our first visit and we love discovering new breweries. She said to let us know when we were ready and walked away. What a missed opportunity! How about telling us the story behind the brewery, talk about the beers, offer samples, let us know that we can order flights, etc. The only thing that kept us from walking out was the intriguing beers. My husband ordered the Mayan Mocha Stout to start which was had nutmeg, cinnamon and habenero (luckily their blackboard menu had brief descriptions since the staff wasn't helpful at all). I ordered the Confused Berry Wheat with raspberry and blackberry, which was crisp and refreshing. We also tried the Pineapple IPA and one of the Bourbon Barrel beers. After sipping our beers for about an hour, we discovered they offered flights, which would have been a great option...again missed opportunity. The atmosphere was relaxed and casual. You order at the bar and bus your own tables - we've been to other breweries that do it the same way, but manage to include a friendly smile and are more than willing to chat about their beers. This wasn't a fluke...we had family members joining us over the weekend and since we raved about the beers, there were two other trips the same weekend with members of our group. Located in an old piano factory this place has that smooth cool funky vibe that just makes you want to stop and stay a while. The beer has got that flava that makes your taste buds want to dance. I was actually so love struck reviewing their tap list that it took me what felt like 20 minutes to decide on a flight, no joke, I actually went to another dimension in time and had to be transported back. My mind was blown trying to decide between Pineapple IPA, Bean Flicker Coffee Blonde (their best seller), Black Citra Pale Ale, or the Mayan Mocha Stout that is inspired by Mexican hot chocolate infused with cinnamon, nutmeg, and habaneros. Such a unique mix of flavors and choices! Each beer my husband and I tried we loved but the El Dankevino won me over. A sweet seductive West Coast DPA aged in wine barrels, WOW! Thank you can I have another! Beers can be ordered in flights, 16oz pints, 20oz pints, 32oz Howlers, and Growlers. This is something I loved about Michigan breweries. You can order a smaller size and try more styles. Whatever your fancy, I am sure you will be all hopped up like a kid on candy after visiting Odd Side. The name of this brewery describes the beers; very odd, but very delicious. I had the apple pie and tangerine dream pale ale. WOW. They were amazing. I tried the Pineapple IPA as well. Even though I am not a fan of IPAs in general, this beer was still pretty damn good. If it wasn't mid day, and I wasn't the DD, I probably would have tried a few more. There is no glass or separate room between the brewery and the pub itself. When they are brewing beer, you are in the midst of the action. It was like sitting in a pumpkin sauna. I expected the bartender to start passing out towels. Odd Sides Ales is craft beer at its finest. If you love the creativity of the brew, Odd Sides is the place to be. read more
