I called and the receptionist was SO sweet and got me right in (even though there can be a wait to see him- his practice is very popular!). First off, his office is amazing- beautifully landscaped, water falls, greenery, etc. On the inside? It's apparent that Dr. Citrin loves basketball, especially U of A, but he's a fan of other teams as well. I can't comment much on the waiting room because I've never really waited in there- they're that prompt! Each exam room has a big picture window that you get to look out (when you're not tilted back being worked on). I've seen TONS of wildlife outside of those windows and it's very relaxing (for the nervous types like me!). Their equipment is also state of the art, including digital x-rays! They show up instantly on the computer screen in the room and there's no development wait time. Fancy! Their hygienist is great, very friendly, and gentle. Dr. Citrin (sometimes people call him Dr. Jay) is SO NICE. He's funny, personable, and always has time to chat about bball or golf, or his kids. He takes the time to get to know you as a person, not just a chart and a patient number. Okay folks, time to come clean. I've had a cavity or two and have had them filled by Dr. Jay. Part II- I'm SUCH a wuss when it comes to dental work. When he had to numb me up, I cried and he gave me tissues (I've seriously had other dentists tell me to "suck it up"). He's very sensitive and pays attention to the patients' comfort level in addition to doing a great job with the dental work. At the end of each exam, you are given a toothbrush (and it's a nice one too, not just a one-use travel type) that says "Dr. Jay Loves Me!", a travel tube of toothpaste and some floss. Seriously, people. I get WAY excited about that toothbrush. I highly recommend him- I can't say enough good things about the practice he has established in the Old Pueblo.

Rudely dismissed by doctor: I was inundated with text…read moremessages from Dental Wise office reminding me of an upcoming cleaning appointment and the need to confirm. I confirmed and showed for my appointment. I was seated by the hygienist, when the doctor stepped into the room and said he wanted to speak with me. .. He asked me "Why are you here?" I politely answered his question. To complete my cleaning, and because your office owes me money. ( This immediately set him off.) He immediately argued the point, about owning me money. The next thing I know he is acting like a 10 year old and making uncalled for comments. I actually had to ask if he had ever looked at my medical history. By the look on his face, I knew he never had. (I.E. medical history and dental history are very closely intertwined) He proceeded to try to argue facts with me re: my account. I let him know he was uninformed of what was going on. ( unbeknownst to him, I had in my hands the insurance paperwork and treatment, and bank statements to review with billing personnel after appointment) He then proceeded to tell me several times that "I wasn't welcome there." Unceremoniously dismissed. LOL. I've been kicked out of better establishments. He was incredibly rude, and unprofessional. As a dentist who is injecting people with medications, it is very important to know your patients medical history and not be throwing juvenile insults them. Most of my dentists growing up had that "I've been fixing teeth since floss was invented" level of experience. So when I first met Dr. Manny I thought... wow... what a young grasshopper. As the old saying goes, "Never judge a book by it's cover." Dr. Manny is a Tucson native who trained under one of the best dentists in town, Dr. Brei. Clearly he soaked up every ounce of wisdom during that apprenticeship, added prestigious dental school, constant continuing education, and then had the audacity to go start his own practice... and absolutely nail it. Do not confuse his confidence with cockiness. The man simply knows what he's doing. And he proves it every time. A few things that stood out immediately: * I have never felt pain during the numbing process. If you've had dental work before, you know that alone deserves recognition. * After every procedure, everything healed exactly how it was explained and expected. No surprises, no drama. Just solid work done right. Also, never once have I felt judged. And trust me... if there was ever a patient worth judging, I've given them plenty of material over the years. The hygienists are equally amazing. Not once during a cleaning has anyone casually mentioned my coffee or Diet Coke habits like some kind of dental detective. Instead, they just calmly explain how to do things better and somehow make you actually want to floss more. And now, I floss 3X a day. Dr. Manny's right-hand woman is basically the Chief of Everything, and an absolute gem. She keeps the entire operation running smoother than most Fortune 500 companies. And the front office staff? Picture Jennifer Lopez in The Wedding Planner with earpieces, orchestrating a flawless event... except the event is you and your teeth. Phones ringing, patients arriving, schedules moving, and somehow everyone is calm, happy, and taken care of. Honestly it's impressive. I just wanted them bigger and wider so that's why I decided to go with the nurse so as he proceeded, got them ready I was very excited. Couldn't wait when it was time for me to go back and get them put on. He just laid them on top before he put them permanently on and gave me a mirror and I just started crying and I couldn't believe it. They were a little tiny little Chiclets. It looks so bad I was devastated and at the time his wife had her veneers and she had real tiny ones as well but I didn't say anything maybe that's what she wanted but anyways, I said no this is not what they were supposed to be. I brought a picture to him and that's how they were supposed to look so he said don't worry I can fix it. I can fix it well I ended up going back and he ended up doing what he had to do and they did look good. They were what I wanted. But I had a concern. I asked him about my original teeth. He had explained to me that in the beginning how he does it and that he had to file my original ones down just very little to get the veneers to stay in place forever, and I said to him since they were filed to fit what you put on in the beginning, which were very small is it gonna cause a problem for me later on as I go years go on will they fall off and he said no he guaranteed me they would be fine as long as I got them in my check ups and my cleanings and stuff which I did. I went to Dr. Harvey for my cleanings for a few years and then I moved to California and then about six years went by my front one fell off. I had to go put it get it put on from that on. They just started falling off. I had them glued on now we're 20 years later. Every tooth that he filed which was 18 of them they're all gone my original tooth and the veneers they just fell out. I have no teeth because of him I tried I went to him and asked him to please do the right thing please fix my teeth. I still have so many years of life and I feel at times i don't even want to live. I look awful and what does he do he pushed me away. He said no he wasn't responsible. We have seen him a couple times at Costco and I didn't say anything. He looked at me like i did something wrong to him and he would take off real quick why would he act like this ? we did see him again at Trader Joe's and at that time my husband had the chance to say to him look what you've done to my wife He says to him she wears a mask wherever she goes and she does not want to leave our home ....Dr Hamidi says No i did nothing wrong its not my fault at all he said he cant afford to do it free he said he would call the police if we didn't leave him alone that we where following him which that was 100% not what we were doing. Hillside Dental is not one of these dental practices. Everything about this practice is topnotch. From the comfortable reception area, friendly reception/office staff and the dentist and his team. Not once did I feel pressured into anything, and all of the recommendations have been excellent. Dental fillings were painless here and the rooms have a nice atrium type view of plants and a fountain. They also provided a free thermal bag with some goodies inside, and a nice card on my first visit. It's kind of like the treasure chest for adults. Highly recommend this dentist if you're in need of dental work.
