Dr. Mitchell made that simple -- he not only has excellent depth in general and aesthetic dentistry but is also just an incredibly nice person. I'm someone who experiences major anxiety in the chair, and I've found Dr. Mitchell's easygoing demeanor a huge relief. I also appreciate that the hygienist is extremely respectful and patient-focused. For instance, I'd had my last bitewings eleven months before, and before my arrival, she had noticed that and double-checked with my insurance to ensure I was eligible, but more important, she also asked me if I would prefer to have them a little early or wait until my next visit. It's completely refreshing to have the staff ask what the patient wants, instead of trying to push services or products. You always get taken in exactly when your appointment starts, not 15 after like most places. All of the techs are professional and friendly. They have great "bedside" manner too. If they have to bug you about something (always flossing for me), they let you know it's important without being a drag. Dr. Gerken is fast, efficient, professional, and gentle. He always manages to hit that critical dose of novocaine where the work doesn't hurt, but you're not drooling for the rest of the day. That's a tough target, but he gets it every time. He makes sure that your teeth are in perfect condition, but I never felt like he was trying to "push" products on me, as so many chain dentists do. I used to live nearby, but now I live by the U of A and downtown. Doesn't matter, the drive is worth it to go to a dentist of this caliber. I highly recommend!

And it was for an extraction procedure. Well, I'm writing this about 2 weeks after that procedure. I was happy walking out of the office the day of the procedure, and I'm even happier now with a completely smooth recovery. First of all, the office staff are absolutely OUTSTANDING. I don't know how you could possibly get better customer service. And the waiting area is a very pleasant environment, there's bottled water, and it's very comfortable. Every aspect of interacting with the support staff was excellent - scheduling, reminders, billing, you name it. All done pleasantly and efficiently. Then there was the extraction itself. Not that I'm running any dental procedure races here, but my goodness, I'm pretty sure my procedure - an extraction with a bone graft - was done in under half an hour! Amazing! Dr. Ham explained what he was planning to do, executed on it, I had NO pain whatsoever during the procedure, and get THIS - while yes, they highly encouraged me to take a pain killer the minute I got home, I really didn't feel the need to do so and I have not once taken ANY pain medication AFTER the procedure. Didn't need to, no pain! Sure I may have had some bleeding - expected - the day of the procedure, and had to put some gauze in the vacated spot where the tooth had been, but after that, no more bleeding the next day, and on the road to a smooth recovery. I don't know how I could be any happier with a dental practice. I mean, I bet nobody LIKES going to the dentist, but if you do have to go, this is an excellent place to get your dental work done. I plan to continue being a patient here.
