So my daughter got into a fender bender. She has an older car that has sentimental value so we really would try what we can to fix it instead of getting a new car. To cut costs since insurance is sooo high nowadays, I dropped coverage for her car down to liability. That said, I told her, look... if she gets into an accident, i'll always be grateful first that she is ok, but that she will have responsibility for paying for damages if it was her fault. Well... um... let's just say, she would be paying for this fender bender if you get what I mean... eh hem.... It's kind of what happens when you try squeeze in to try to turn right next to a giant truck (semi) that is also going to be turning right. Do not recommend. 0 out of 5 stars. It was enough damage where mobile dent services wouldn't work, so I had to go through an auto body shop. I've previously had bad experiences with auto body shops overpricing without good work and wasn't going to tow the car into a place and end up feeling "stuck". I had to get it right and pick the best person to do the job the first time. I love it when a plan works out... because that's exactly what happened! I spoke to Shawn over the phone and explained the situation. He was very honest about not being able to give me a good quote without seeing the car first instead of just pictures. Having so many great reviews also helped me with making my decision to trust him and take the car there. Thank you Yelp universe! After looking at the car and taking some time to inspect the damage, he was super honest and gave us a few options with how to get the damage repaired. He knew my daughter was paying so he really worked with us on pricing to help her out. He didn't try to upsell us and gave us pricing for each possible option. After giving the go ahead with one of the options, he actually finished ahead of time and you would never in a million years be able to tell there was any damage at all. It's insanely sketchy that these guys have 5 stars. Let me tell you about my experience: I have a very low-mileage but old car (think, 12 years). The clear coat is totally cooked, but the car is in great shape mechanically. I want to sell it private, so I'm getting quotes on paint/body to assess whether it's worth repainting or selling as is: 2012 Mazda 3, 57k miles on it. Go ahead and KBB it. Keep in mind the clear coat is done, but no rust. That's what I'm looking for prices on. After getting a quote down the street for $2500, I call in to O'side paint and body to get another. I pull up and Shawn answers the phone, I explain the situation and he tells me to come in. I made the mistake of mentioning that I was looking to sell it (which is why I'm looking for paint quotes). He goes to take a look at the car and after getting the details, he immediately tells me it'll cost over $4k to repaint and "he wouldn't do that" but "he's looking for a car himself to drive to work." First of all, dude, you work at a bodyshop with a dealership, you definitely have a car that you like to drive to work. Secondly, would you care to guess what he offered me for it? $1500. I was willing to entertain an offer, but massively over estimating the cost ($4k according to him) and then trying to heinously low-ball me is just insulting and shady. He then passes me off to his dealership buddy who is at least a bit more honest and offers me $2500. I was offered $5k trade in on carvana and @ Tesla (I've already bought). You can go on autotrader and for the same year, make and model with twice the miles find asking prices for ~$9k. I get that you guys need to take your cut and make money but way over-quoting paint / body work and trying to low-ball me is just skeevy. Would not trust these guys. read more
