I had never been dolphin or whale watching. Growing up in the SF Bay Area, I had seen plenty of Sea Life in Santa Cruz, or Half Moon Bay. But, since we were staying right by the harbor, I decided to go "Full Tourist" and book the family a 2 hour ride. We are a family of 6, and it's not always easy to find something to entertain all of these humans at once. I called with a few questions, and then booked online. I'm so glad we did this , it was just beautiful, I had a tasty vodka cran (Thanks Ollie), we were able to watch and boat next to a very large pod of dolphins. The staff were so accommodating and friendly, it was like hanging out with people I've known all of my life. I would describe the crew as talkative, informative, welcoming, professional, funny, and entertaining. Chris explained a few things here and there, but there was not a script or drawn out marine life lecture, the kids were never bored. Sorry my photos aren't impressive. The dolphins were leaping in and out of the water, but I eventually just put my phone down and enjoyed being in the moment. I'll definitely do this again. We originally had some hiccups with a customer service due to unforeseen roadwork blocking traffic from San Diego to Oceanside and potential to lose tickets without a fight for reschedule or refund. Once we were able to talk to the manager the situation was resolved and we got rescheduled. The trip was amazing. Capitan went out of his way to make sure we see dolphins and whales and we saw so many! We even saw a mother whale with a baby! Also, the Capitan saw ocean pollution and took the trash out of the ocean so that fish does not get hurt by it. The management also did a great job and contacted us after seeing that we experienced problems in the beginning. Our tour guides were fun, engaging, knowledgable and so great with our kiddos (including letting them to the front of the boat to get a better view) Answered all of their questions about sea creatures and let them play with toy dolphins, seals, whales, etc.. on the boat. We saw the pacific white dolphins on this trip (no whales, but I know that's out of anyone's control) but we got so close and our kids went nuts! The wildlife is the only good part of this experience. My family and I rode on the "Nala" ship and the crew was awful. After the safety briefing, the crew never said another word. They all hung out in the bar and were talking to each other, didn't tell anyone about drink or food service (or tell anyone that it was cash only). People were falling asleep on the boat. The only highlight was that we saw a pod of white sided dolphins. No one seemed to be trying to spot other wildlife, so we just circled back to the bay and that was it. No communication, entertainment, food/drink service. Would recommend a different company or at least a different crew. read more

Just went on a whale watching tour. We saw a bunch of dolphins, and a Minke whale. Very nice clean boat, drinks and snacks available for purchase and the boat has a bathroom too. Captain was good about telling you about the different types of whales and dolphins also the naturalist was great at answering questions. Overall great tour, easy to reserve and free parking at the harbor. They also handed out a 25 percent off coupon for the next time and a coupon for the fish and chips place. This is a great easy to get to and fun thing to do while in Oceanside. Wish the music on the boat was a little louder that would be the only thing to make it better. I was very disappointed in my family's experience with Oceanside Adventures. The confirmation email says to call if you're having trouble or running late but they really don't care. They won't reschedule, wait, or refund. It was our fault we did not leave time for unexpected traffic in Temecula but they left my husband on the dock (after I called ahead and told the worker on the boat he'd be about 3 minutes late). :( We've been whale watching out of Newport (Davy Jones' Locker) many times (I've even taken 50 students on a field trip there) and had much better customer service at a fraction of the cost. I brought my 8 year old granddaughter for her first boat ride with hopes of seeing dolphins. We were so fortunate to see hundreds of them. The captain heard there was a blue whale and tried his best to stay to see him on the surface of the ocean, but the whale did not cooperate. The staff was exceptional, taking the time to ensure people learned and felt comfortable. This will be a memory my granddaughter will hold for a lifetime. We lucked out and had a great day in the ocean. We saw three whales and spent quite a bit of time with them. The crew was great. Captain Chris did a good job explaining the types of whales and their environment. He kept us updated on his plan to find the whales and where to look for them. I lived on the coast for 15 years and had never taken a true whale watching tour - it was well worth it. This is the 7th year we have gone on the Oceanside Adventures tour. Our tour was on 8-1-23. We had a fantastic time. We saw a Maco Shark and a large pod of bottlenose dolphin as well as a sea lion. The dolphin were flying through the air like we have never seen. The weather was great and the staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. Chris & Pecan were the best. The crew was great, super friendly, and educational. They gave clear safety instructions, introduced themselves and answered any questions. The atmosphere is casual with positive vibes to go around. There is a bathroom on board and lots of seating both around the sides of the boat and under the shaded space. We went November 4th at 2:30pm and saw a massive pod of dolphins including their babies which was awesome to see. They followed us around for quite a while, getting right up close to the boat so you can see them clearly. It gets really cold so make sure to bring some outerwear! We had the opportunity of doing the whale watching tour on July 11th and it was an amazing experience. I've never been whale watching, and being out on the ocean was not just peaceful but seeing a pod of common dolphins in their natural habitat brought so much joy that these majestic creatures are swimming near the boat and going about their business. On the way back to the harbor got a glimpse of a blue whale which was a treat cause never seen one in real life either. Overall this was a fun tour and highly recommend this experience especially if you are on vacation as we came here from Mesa Arizona. We saw hundreds of dolphins! Saw Sea Lions too! They swam under the front of the boat! They were racing us and squeaking! Capt.Chris was amazing! He was so incredibly knowledgeable about every creature we encountered, even those we didn't! No whales this trip but I will be back. Very disappointed. We have been out with this company before and of course you will not always see whales. However, the last trip of the day on Sunday March 17 the staff just phoned it in. They took us straight out some distance out to where some bottle nose dolphins were, stayed for maybe 20 mins and then had to head back. They did not even try. Did dolphin cruise yesterday. I call it a dolphin cruise because not a whale in sight! Disappointed for sure. We were hoping!!

Got a sweet deal through Goldstar, they have limited tickets for the day so purchase them quickly. Took my parents here for an outting on the water, fresh air and blue all around. They really had a great time for the entire two hours, just bundle up during the winter months, it gets cold with the wind blowing but sitting out under the sun you can warm up. They had a good playlist of classic rock songs that kept the ride from being boring. Bring your own binoculars for a better view of possible sealife. You never really know what you're going to get, there were two whale sightings and dolphin sightings just the day before but during our trip we saw absolutely nada. They have a great policy here that if you don't see anything you get your ticket back basically a free trip for next time you visit, that never expires! I don't know any other business that does this, like how do they stay in business? Out trip only had 11 people total on the boat and the next trip after ours had four, like that's basically a private tour! Totally recommend buying your tickets online and picking them up from the office (it's the blue A-frame) boarding time is prompt. You can park for four hours a Joe's Crab Shack or across the way from there through the tunnel. read more
