For some reason I can't seem to find a decent nail place in San Clemente. I went in for gel x & a pedicure. The pedicure was average. Nothing special or anything to refer a friend to. I had a removal done for my previous gel x set & I had to have her stop & not finish the service. She left my hands in acetone for 20 minutes. My hands literally turned white and are peeling. Usually they only wrap your nails in foil & acetone. This was just lazy. She didn't prep my nails whatsoever for a new set of gel x so I decided to stop the service because I knew I wouldn't be happy if she couldn't even get the basics done correctly My hands are SO DRY and my nails look awful. I have been to this salon many times. Sometimes it's fine but several times there have been issues. Cut and bleeding cuticles, uneven French manicure tips, cutting nails too short, etc. This most recent time, I had asked to have any manicurist except Jenny, who is not good. Both the dark haired receptionist and the nail techs were extremely rude to me, and purposely did a terrible job on my nails. She even smudged the polish and just put a topcoat on the smudged nail. It's a lot quieter here than in more casual establishments. As I mentioned in my tip, if it's possible your mani could involve nail extensions, say so when you make your appointment. Not every technician there is qualified (by Ocean View) to apply nail extensions. They recommend appointments, and I agree. We all have emergencies when a walk-in is necessary, but an appointment allows them to plan better, and to ensure you see a technician who is qualified for your service. Nail girls are very nice. My toes after my pedicure were good. I also got a manicure (dip+ gel color) but after leaving, going home and looking at them I noticed a black hair under my top coat sealed underneath, the gel pouring over my cuticles and sides of my nails and an uneven "bubbly" look. I went in to get my acrylics removed and gel manicure, but as she was removing them she ripped pieces of my actual nail off even after i said it hurt. Instead of removing them properly by soaking they used the nail tips to force off the acrylic on my nails. Then to top it off she put on the nail oil on my open and raw skin that was bleeding and put it back into the bottle to use on the next customer.. huge health hazard. The salon carries a non-toxic line of polishes that last as long as OPI. I want to start with I used to really like this salon. It's clean and I usually enjoy my experience. However the pricing is always different and this time I felt very taken. I went in for a mani/ pedi. I spoke with the technicians and asked for the $48 combo. I repeated and made sure we were all in the same page. A few weeks prior I had received a gel manicure and the gel polish was only an extra $10. Which is rather standard for most places. I thought I would splurge a bit and get gel. There was no comment made about how much extra it would be or that it would no longer be the $48 or even the extra $10. Again I mentioned the $48 combo and she said yes. When I finished and went to pay it came out to $71!!! I was taken completely off guard! I had asked and asked and had never been charged so much for a mani/pedi. I asked the girl at the front to break it down to me as to why it went from $48 to $71. She told me that a gel manicure is $25 and if I had just done the pedi by itself and then a manicure is would have been cheaper!! What!?!! Then charge me that amount!?!? I didn't even get lotion at the end of my manicure or a massage! I told her this wasn't mentioned to me and even on the menu it doesn't say that! I had asked so many times before and the amounts just don't add up. I feel completely ripped off and taken advantage of. I don't see how the prices add up the way they did. Let me clarify. My rating is 0. Not even one star! This is a long overdue review and I apologize in advance if anyone experienced the same and could have avoided injury had I posted this in a timely manner. I used to go to this salon regularly. Lam was my favorite nail technician. On one visit I decided to get an eyebrow wax....which I do every other week or so. The service was performed in the little room adjacent to the salon area. The woman doing the service placed the very warm wax on my eyelids then pulled the strips off. As usual, they stung for a few seconds, then it usually goes away. As I was driving home I noticed my eyelids were bright red and starting to swell. I placed ice packs on them when I got home and took some ibuprofen for the pain and swelling. The next morning I noticed scabs starting to form on my swollen eyelids and the pain was intense. Over the next two weeks I had to deal with the possibility of infection and scarring. I returned to the salon a few days after the service and spoke with the male owner or operator who basically said he had no liability and simply offered to give me a refund of $12 for the service. He took no responsibility for the inept service I received and offered no apology. I had to see a plastic surgeon to ensure the scabs would not form into scars and am lucky to have only darkened skin in the area of the burns. I will never go back. I later found out that the 'technician' who did my eyebrow wax was not licensed and was filling in for someone who did not show up for work. I reported the salon to the licensing board and have since found a much better salon with integrity and care for their clients. A simple apology and 'let me make this right' would have gone a long way. However, the lack of ownership for the shoddy service provided tells me a lot about how this person runs their business. If you choose to use this salon, you have been warned. read more

Got a dip mani and regular pedi and it was my first time trying this salon. I called ahead and they were able to fit me in right away which was great. They had a large selection of colors. 3/5 stars because 2 days after I went my dip manicure chipped on 4 nails. I've never had dip chip before. My pedicure looks great. They also only did a massage for 2 minutes and it was pretty minimal effort. The nail techs were very nice and not pushy at all. I'm just disappointed it chipped so fast and now my nails look like they need to be redone. Probably won't be returning. read more

5 of us came here after Brunch, for a girls day trip up to San Clemente (from SD & LA). I decided on Ocean View because of the Yelp reviews...you just never know what you'll get when you try somewhere new in a completely different city. I filled out their Contact form on the website to get a reservation for all of us to get spa pedicures at the same time (I hate when only a few can be done at a time, leaving others waiting, and making the time spent there incredibly too long) - but they replied right away, and confirmed they'd be able to perform our pedis ALL together, yay!! Even 2 nights before our reservation, I emailed the owner, Glenn, to add on a gel polish change for one of the bday girls - and he made it happen. We were also able to bring in our own few bottles of Prosecco and plastic stemware (though he did say via email that they had cups as well if we needed them). Sadly, the experience my Daughter had today was subpar compared to our experiences at Serenity and Bellagio in Talega. The staff was super friendly and the salon was clean. Unfortunately my manicure and pedicure was not great. The basic mani/pedi was nothing to write home about, no massaging chairs and a weak 3 minute arm and leg rub. At the end, the polish was clumpy (they kept putting thinner in the bottle) uneven and had bubbles. I did tell them that I wasn't happy with it and they did offer to repaint my nails, but I did not have another hour for the second attempt. At check-out I was offered a small discount for my trouble, they offered me the option to come back another day and have them re-done but I declined. I still over paid and over tipped because even though it was bad, they still provided a service. If you do go and are not happy with the work, say something early so it can be corrected. read more

Looks like updating my OVN review is gonna be a yearly thing. I can't stress how much I love this place. I have lived in San Diego, Orange County, and now LA... but I will always, always go out of my way to come here to get my nails done. I have relatively recently started only getting gel done. OVN continues to do a fantastically thorough and detailed job, which his ESPECIALLY important with gel. My nails grow very slowly so if I have my gel done well it will easily last a month. If I have it done poorly, it starts to peel back from my cuticles within 2-3 weeks. Every time I come here they do a great job and I get a solid month out of my gel. I love it. I also really appreciate that they have the little UV protection fingerless gloves, too! I like to make sure I always have an appointment because they do get really busy, but that is obviously to be expected. My only tiny, tiny gripe is that they don't have more gel colors! They do have a decent selection but I only like three of them. I went to one salon when I was out of town (in Nebraska) and they had well over 60 different colors to choose from. I think at OVN they have maybe 20 or so? I could be wrong. I'll check the next time I'm there and update my review again. read more
