Crystal Shrimp Roll, Glass of Water, Bottle (and glass) of Sake.
    Steven H.

As a first time trying Sushi, this was a VERY good experience. I didn't like sushi as a kid, but my tastes have evolved so I decided to give it another try at Ocean Sushi. I was recommended the "BSU" Specialty Roll by the waitress...which had salmon, crab, cream cheese, rice..and I can't remember the rest, but it was deep fried and sliced up. It was DELICIOUS!! A myriad of different flavors I wouldn't of expected to come together, but they did! I also tried out a crystal shrimp roll and some (cold) Sake. The Crystal Shrimp roll was refreshing and light. The Sake however...well..I dont have a taste for alcohol, but I've wanted to try it...it was strong on the alcohol taste. However, I hear sake is a bit more flavorful when warm, so ill try again. The place was clean with a couple TVs to watch at what i could only guess was the "Sushi Bar". There were many customers as well, so I think it's safe to say people enjoy the restaurant here. The staff were also friendly and helpful with my questions on what to order. Price wise the bill ran me $49-ish (both rolls, a side of rice and the sake plus tip), but if it was JUST the first roll and rice, it would of been closer to $20-ish. If you're curious on Sushi, want to try it or love it already...Ocean Sushi is a good place to hit up as it has a variety of rolls and Sushi to pique your interest.

Preface=I'm not a fan of sushi, so not my area of expertise. That said, I gave it a go since I have family members that do enjoy it. For my sampling, I decided to get it to go. I was happy to see they had some sushi alternatives. I got the chicken plate with veggies (I believe you can also opt for shrimp). The food was soooo fresh! This is what right looks like. Great flavor, good portions, and the folks working there were very friendly. I have no idea how I didn't know about this place, but I have an idea. And this is my only critique about Ocean Sushi. They have somewhat limited hours, which is fine (if they just open on hours that make the business fiscally responsible, I applaud that. That said, the hours are written on a sign in the front window and the days are hard to read. They do have an open/closed sign, but it's on of those signs you feel could be left facing the wrong direction. Overall, it's just not abundantly clear they are open. I wish they had a clear indicator like the sign at the business next door. Keep in mind, this is the only negative I can say because this place is really good. Highly recommended all around! Although I didn't eat in the restaurant, it looked very clean.

If we had never eaten here before, today's experience would have been one and done…read more After spending Spring Break camping at Three Island Crossing and Bruneau Dunes State Park, we stopped at Shiok on our way home to Boise for a late lunch. The vibe from the waitress told us she didn't want to be there. We were barely greeted and shown a table to sit down at. We barely had seen the menu when she came by and asked us about drinks and appetizers. We asked for two glasses of ice tea and said we needed more time to look at the menu. When she came back to take our order, we still hadn't received our ice teas. She even brought us our cups of soup before the teas. Since we weren't provided water when we sat down, we waited 15 minutes to get the teas. My wife ordered a sweet and sour chicken dish and I ordered Kung pan chicken. When they arrived, they looked almost identical: deep-fried chicken in a sweet sauce. Only Kristy's dish had some slices of bell pepper, while mine had a piece of raw broccoli and some dried chiles. Tasting mine, it was definitely sweet and sour. When the waitress came around I asked if that dish was really Kung pao chicken and she assured me it was. I said the sauce was sweet and the chicken was deep-fried and was unlike any Kung pan chicken I'd ever had. She told me she would trade it out, although I was unsure what she was going to replace it with, since she had insisted that what I had received truly was Kung pao chicken. She returned a few minutes later and said the chef had made a mistake and was making the correct dish for me. It came out and was fine. But what bothered me is the server just assumed she had brought me the proper dish to begin with. If she had simply looked at it and agreed it looked nearly identical to Kristy's sweet and sour dish, she would have easily concluded a mistake had been made. Which I would have understood. Instead, she didn't believe my explanation of why it was the wrong dish. If I was the chef in the kitchen, I would have brought the corrected dish out to the customer myself and apologized personally. He took the easy way out by putting it on his waitress. This is a restaurant we love and have spoken to the owner before. We will go there again, but this was a very disappointing experience.

The servings were huge and we ended up taking home a lot of food. The service was fast and our server was so friendly. The menu is also like a book. So many things to pick from. If you enjoy Chinese/American food I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. We will certainly be back again.

We were able to get our table early which was great! Our Knob Hill Manhattan cocktails were served chilled to perfection and went down nicely. We started with a couple of appetizers, scallops and foie gras. The scallops were ok but the foie gras was the winner. What a combination of flavors! My mouth was very happy. We were seated at a table next to the window and in front of the fire place. A very nice table indeed. The restaurant is very cozy with great ambiance and I never felt that it was too loud and the service was great. Dinner for me was the Colorado Bass, cooked nicely with a crunchy skin. My friend had the pappardelle bolognese. I had a bite of that and it was delicious! Dessert though....Amaro Affogato. (Fun to say and defined: Bitter Drowned) A great way to end the meal. Get it.

The wine list is extensive, and the menu offers plenty of appealing options. We started with the oysters topped with raspberry mignonette, which ended up being my favorite part of the meal. The combination was fresh, unique, and incredibly well executed. For our entrees, we ordered the Mahi Mahi with lobster and the Orange Roughy. While my Mahi Mahi was slightly overcooked, the drawn butter from the lobster helped bring it back to life and added great flavor. I wasn't a fan of the pineapple accompaniment, which tasted canned rather than fresh, but the sauce served alongside the dish was excellent. The Orange Roughy was the standout entree and definitely the better choice between the two. It was flaky, buttery, fresh, and cooked perfectly. Overall, Coa Del Mar delivers a gorgeous setting, excellent cocktails, friendly service, and some truly memorable dishes. While not every element of the meal was perfect, the oysters and Orange Roughy alone would have me coming back.
