    Bubble Cookies
    Juli S.

On 9/17/20, I went to a restaurant in Mountain Home for dinner. Afterwards, we stopped at Lumpia Xpress. I would have liked to have picked up some lumpia for the next day, but the owner made a comment that discouraged me from doing so, noting that they were closing in 30 minutes. So I bought a couple of baked items instead. I purchased Bump Cookies ($2.50) and two Coconut Rice Flour Cakes ($4). The Bump cookies are also known as Paciencia or Filipino meringue cookies. I thought the flavor was OK but they seemed a little dry. I have had a cookie similar to this in the past but I liked the flavor and texture better. The Coconut Rice Flour Cake Is also known as Bibingka or Filipino Coconut Rice Cake. The photo is deceiving because the actual cake is the size of a small muffin. I have had cake similar to this in the past. There was just something a little off about the flavor of this one for me. If you would like to try a great version of this cake, I would recommend the Trader Joe's Mochi cake mix. It also uses sweet rice flour which gives it a chewy, almost bouncy texture. The cake mix includes coconut milk powder which gives it a similar coconut flavor. Currently, this business is take out only. Lumpia Xpress has a limited menu that includes Lumpia, Spam Musubi, Yakisoba,Pancit and Boba tea. Note that originally I' bent over backwards to try to give this business a three star review by basing it on my friends perception of these two cookies. But after the negative comments that the business owner made below, I am editing my review to tell you what I really think of it. Needless to say, I will not be back. If you are a business owner, you need to learn how to accept constructive feedback, as well as recognize when someone is being overly generous in their rating of your business.

Visited for lunch with my daughter. We were delighted by the style of the bento boxes we ordered 2 different boxes one had Pancit and the other Yakisoba, the meal also included Two Lumpia, Rice, Sauces and a Coconut Rice Cake in each box. I unfortunately did not ask if there was pork in the lumpia which there is, the employee/chef did confirm there was pork in the rolls. I was so excited to eat here I totally forgot to ask about the pork, but no big deal I just gave the lumpia to my daughter and enjoyed the rest of the box! The chef was so incredibly amazing that he surprised me with a chicken patty, I was blown away with his hospitality and great customer service, we will definitely be back and look forward to another great meal and excellent customer service.

Half Dozen Lumpia, Mango drink with Boba, Bubble Cookie. Threw in some extra sauce too.

The food is good. I love a good lumpia. It's hard to get through on the telephone though. I would recommend their lumpia and the pancit.

The lumpia and pancit bento box was ok, especially for the price. I have definitely had better pancit. The Lumpia is definitely good.

The vibe from the waitress told us she didn't want to be there. We were barely greeted and shown a table to sit down at. We barely had seen the menu when she came by and asked us about drinks and appetizers. We asked for two glasses of ice tea and said we needed more time to look at the menu. When she came back to take our order, we still hadn't received our ice teas. She even brought us our cups of soup before the teas. Since we weren't provided water when we sat down, we waited 15 minutes to get the teas. My wife ordered a sweet and sour chicken dish and I ordered Kung pan chicken. When they arrived, they looked almost identical: deep-fried chicken in a sweet sauce. Only Kristy's dish had some slices of bell pepper, while mine had a piece of raw broccoli and some dried chiles. Tasting mine, it was definitely sweet and sour. When the waitress came around I asked if that dish was really Kung pao chicken and she assured me it was. I said the sauce was sweet and the chicken was deep-fried and was unlike any Kung pan chicken I'd ever had. She told me she would trade it out, although I was unsure what she was going to replace it with, since she had insisted that what I had received truly was Kung pao chicken. She returned a few minutes later and said the chef had made a mistake and was making the correct dish for me. It came out and was fine. But what bothered me is the server just assumed she had brought me the proper dish to begin with. If she had simply looked at it and agreed it looked nearly identical to Kristy's sweet and sour dish, she would have easily concluded a mistake had been made. Which I would have understood. Instead, she didn't believe my explanation of why it was the wrong dish. If I was the chef in the kitchen, I would have brought the corrected dish out to the customer myself and apologized personally. He took the easy way out by putting it on his waitress. This is a restaurant we love and have spoken to the owner before. We will go there again, but this was a very disappointing experience.

The servings were huge and we ended up taking home a lot of food. The service was fast and our server was so friendly. The menu is also like a book. So many things to pick from. If you enjoy Chinese/American food I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. We will certainly be back again.

Just an FYI the entire right side of their restaurant is 21+ so there is limited seating for families. We were able to order off the happy hour menu which goes until 6pm even on a Saturday! We were pleasantly surprised. We started with some crab ragoons and they were good, but a little heavy on the ginger and not much crab flavor. Then I ordered the chicken lettuce wraps and my husband got the hangover fried rice. Both were delicious as always. My kids got a couple California rolls to share and the popcorn shrimp bento box. I love how the kids meal comes with two sides and a fortune cookie. While we didn't order any dessert, I did enjoy a delicious cocktail. I have never had a drink I didn't like here. We love the location of the restaurant, how it is right on the greenbelt. And it has a great patio space that is available during the warmer months. I would recommend this place if you want Asian fusion food or want to dip your toe in trying sushi.

My sister and I showed up first. We got sat at a round table and chilled until the rest of our party showed up. After everyone got there, we all checked out the menu. There wasn't a real organized system between the employees that served our table. It was a reservation for 5 but only 2 menus and 2 waters were initially dropped off. After everyone got there, 2 more waters were brought out but not the 5th glass that was missing. Then we got an over abundance of menus when we just needed a couple more. It was a rough start. We finally got to order appetizers and dinner. I got the Asparagus Delight with extra chicken. My sister ordered Pad See Ew. My cousin got the Khao Soi with rice noodles. The two other prom moms got General's chicken and a sushi roll. For starters we got the fried green beans and calamari. The wait on the appetizers seemed long. Nothing is more annoying than not being able to enjoy your starter cause your dinner was right behind it. 2 fried green beans were brought out. We had to call the server and ask about the calamari. We were confused if that was 1 appetizer of fried green beans split into 2 plates for easier sharing or if it was actually 2 orders. Well, it was 2 orders so the extra portion was taken back. The calamari did come out shortly but was fast considering we waited so long initially for the appetizers come out. I didn't try the appetizers but from what was being said the fried green beans were good and they have had better calamari. As fast as that calamari came out, I'm sure it was prepared quickly. Not taking the normal time to actually prepare something that could turn into rubber if it's not cooked properly. Dinner came out shortly. My dish looked really good. There was bright green pieces of asparagus. A few hearty chunks of cauliflower. I noticed quite a few shrimp and a decent amount of chicken. My dish was good. The veggies were fresh and crispy. The sauce was on the sweeter side but still tasted good. The shrimp was tender but did have a fishy scent to them. The chicken could have been velveted. It was white meat and we all know white meat can lean towards the drier side. I think velveting could have fixed that. I did ask for extra chicken and in all honesty I don't think I really got the extra I had ordered. Service was decent. The timing of the appetizers and food could be worked on. Some communication between employees would have been nice for more organization. I came here for lunch and wasn't impressed with portion sizes and I will have to say I wasn't impressed with the dinner portion either. It's cool that I got to come back and vibe with my family tonight. It was busy so it's great to see that people are out supporting their local Asian restaurant. I unfortunately have such a high bar set from my family and growing up in this industry. I really wish this place would have met my expectations the second time around.
