I apologize I forgot his name but he was the host/server at 4pm on Dec3rd! Great service, very attentive. I went for happy hour and it was my first time at the Funky Taco. 3 for $12 street tacos. So flavorful! I also had chips and dip . The dips were soso good, the tortilla chip style here is very crunchy/hard; i am more of a light fluffy tortilla chip gal, but they were still eaten. Overall, very impressed and I will albsolutelty be back!

The Funky Taco is an okay Mexican fusion restaurant. I came here with a party of 4 for lunch and we were seated right away. The service was attentive, quick, and friendly. I ordered the Prawnto Tacos, which are two medium-sized shrimp tacos. As you can see from my picture, the tortillas were extra toasted which I usually don't mind but they were cold. Cold, extra toasty tortillas are no bueno. While the plating was pretty, the majority of the serrano crema was on the plate instead of in my tacos... All in all, I wasn't a fan of my visit and think that they have room for improvement.

Surf and Turf and Classic chicken taco with flour shells.

This is where we decided to eat for Mother's Day and it did not disappoint. If you are like me and queso is one reason you go to Mexican food- then order the chips & dip. The chips are homemade 1/2 of a corn tortilla fried to perfection. The beer cheese (they don't actually call it queso) was perfect consistency and flavor. The best, freshest tasting guacamole and the salsa was very flavorful but not overly spicy. My husband and I ordered the same thing (we never do that) but we had a surf & turf taco and the classic chicken taco. How do I describe them? Do not order them thinking you are getting an average Mexican food taco- these things are very "funky" packed with flavor but do not resemble a traditional taco at all. The servers were all sweet. I will be back especially for the chips and dip.

Vegan Verde Enchilada - SO GOOD!! It's more like a burrito, but absolutely delicious

Where do I even begin? As a vegan I'm always looking for unique options when I visit a new city, and WOW did The Funky Taco deliver! I ate here 3 times while I was in Boise for a few days because I just HAD to try every vegan option on the menu. First thing I tried was the vegan nachos. I was not ready for how delicious these were going to be. They use halved tortillas and fry them for chips, which is amazing for scooping up all the nacho toppings. The beans and creamed corn were so flavorful, the marinated shiitake mushrooms were perfectly prepared and so savory, and all of the slaw, shredded carrots and radish brought so much freshness to the appetizer that turned into my meal. A MUST if you come here. I also had the berries and cream for dessert (the only vegan option) which was simple but delicious if you're looking for something light. Next visit I had the vegan verde enchiladas. Also a stunner! It definitely reads more like a burrito, but I've never had soyriso and potatoes prepared so perfectly, I almost questioned if there was meat in the dish because of how much flavor and texture was in them! The salsa verde was plentiful and there were also lots of greens inside that made it feel like despite the size of the dish. For my last visit I tried the funky fried rice nuggets and the flower power tacos. The rice nuggets are a OUT OF THIS WORLD. They are seasoned with five spice and then served with chili crisp, vegan kewpie mayo, pickled cucumbers and a fennel slaw that is to die for. This appetizer couldn't be more perfect! The flower power tacos were also a great balance between fried and battered cauliflower, beautifully dressed slaw, and fresh sprouts and radishes to top them off. On top of the food, every person we interacted with was so nice and made sure we had plenty of their house made hot sauces and sauces to enjoy with our meal. This place will be a MUST every time I'm in town!

Super great breakfast burrito! Hit the spot!

We are from Santa Cruz, California. It's been hard to find decent comparable food out here. But this place has the best breakfast burritos around. We drive from Meridian a few times a week for it. Highly recommend. If you appreciate quality, and good taste. Highly recommend.

Special nacho with beer cheese and chicken.

This place was really good pre covid but I'd have to say my last few experiences were subpar. Cut back on the salt chefs! My entire table had four different meals and we all shared it so it wasn't just one pallet or another experiencing it. The Macho brisket taco was like licking a salt brick...if you know, you know. The prawnto shrimp taco needs much more crema. The amount of cilantro on every taco was rediculous. It overpowered. My nachos were great. The homemade chips, pickled jalapenos, chicken and beer cheese on point as usual. The chicken burrito was so salty my wife took out the chicken. Everybody loved the papas and sauce appetizer. Service here is always excellent and ambience as well as location to downtown activites are great. But beware of the salty taco. ;)

Order vegan tacos with the cream sauce - its fabulous

This "funky" restaurant is amazing. I've bee there several times i this year and enjoyed their tacos. Then a few of us decided to try the vegan Nachos, and wow! A real hit with mushrooms, chips made on site, shredded veges such as carrots and other root veges, and a delicious cream sauce. They are now open Sundays (May 2024), and so far not slammed, so its a good time to wander in and try a taco or nacho.

It's a fanatically gorgeous day here in Boise this late afternoon. We are seated by the Bob Dylan rendering. Landon is waiting on us. Started off with the special nacho with chicken, since the Korean nachos already set with the pork and ham topping on it. The macho is the beef brisket. $17.75. HH discount is $1 off of your bill. Doing a progressive meal in Boise tonight. Lots of places to at and too few days to hit them all. Salas are verde, mango habanero and a spicy peach. The special nachos was much taller than I was expecting. A lot of different sauces going on and it's all so good. The nachos are fried corn tortillas. The chicken are cubed and sizable chunks. The only thing missing was having enough chicken chunks for all of the big tortilla chips. It's a lot going on, but tasty. The mango habanero is slightly sweet and has decent heat to it. The peach has a Smokey flavor to the salsa, both of the hot salsas are good. Service was good as well.

    Capital building.

The menu has a few things you can order from burritos, tacos, tortas and other fun items. We ordered a Carne Asada Burrito and it has rice, beans, meat of choice & lettuce and avocado it was pretty good. We got some tacos as well and not sure if she mixed up another ordered but we were short 3 tacos on our order and that was a bummer.. I was really looking forward to them. Their asada, carnitas, el pastor were all really good and authentic flavor and loved that the pastor had the pineapple chunks as well. One thing I did dislike was I asked about chips order and it said $5 when I asked her if I can just have a couple, she was a bit confused and asked the lead there. Apparently they didn't have chips in their truck and had to go find them. That should have been my no thank you but I figured ohh let's give them a try. Once we got to our house and saw the $5 chips I was honestly a bit upset they were store bought nacho chips. Tacos are $2.50 I don't understand why chips are $5 and they aren't even like your traditional Mexican chips or something along those lines. That was my only downfall to this place but those are just chips. Their food was honestly good no doubt about it when we were ordering they had a few people eating there and a few to go orders. Maybe take them off the menu or make little baggies and purchase chips from a Mexican store or make your own tostadas..

The food was honestly amazing and definitely the highlight. That said, as a first-time customer, it wasn't the most welcoming experience. There's very little signage, so we didn't know it was seat-yourself luckily I had called ahead. When we walked in, there wasn't much direction or greeting, which made it a bit confusing. The inside is also pretty crowded. Tables are packed really close together, so it can feel a little cramped. The menu is another thing. It's very "fancy" and not super straightforward, which made it harder to understand what you're actually ordering if you're new. Service-wise, it was a bit inconsistent. We noticed other tables automatically got ice water, but we didn't. When we ordered drinks, no one explained where or how to get them, which added to the confusion. All that said, the food and overall atmosphere are great. Once you figure out how everything works, it's a solid spot. I just think they could improve the experience for new customers with better signage, clearer communication, and a more welcoming first impression.

We dropped in for Taco Tuesday and were thoroughly impressed by both the kitchen's creativity and the charming atmosphere. The Food The star of the night was undoubtedly the OG Crispy Tacos. At a fantastic $5 Tuesday special, these are a masterclass in nostalgia done right. They feature a unique "crispy soft shell" that provides a satisfying crunch without shattering, loaded with seasoned ground beef, fresh lettuce, cheese, pinto beans, and a hot sauce that packs just the right punch. It's the ultimate elevated comfort food. I also branched out to try the Korean Short Rib Taco ($8). This is where Madre's "boutique" identity really shines. The richness of the short rib was beautifully offset by the acidic crunch of kimchee and pickled relish, while the peanut sauce added a creamy, nutty depth that tied the fusion profile together perfectly. Drinks & Atmosphere To wash it all down, I opted for a classic Daiquiri, which was balanced and refreshing--clearly made by someone who understands craft cocktails. My fiancé enjoyed The Bruce, a crisp, local beer that paired effortlessly with the bold spices of the tacos. And before we left, we split a margarita. The atmosphere at Madre is "quaint" in the best way possible. We chose to sit on the patio, which offers a lovely outdoor escape. The setting is so integrated with the neighborhood charm that we even had a local squirrel zip right under our feet across the patio--a moment that added a touch of whimsical, nature-filled character to our meal. Service The service was top-notch; our server was genuinely friendly and attentive without being overbearing, ensuring our drinks stayed full and our Taco Tuesday experience was seamless. Final Verdict Madre - Boutique Taqueria manages to feel like a hidden gem while delivering world-class flavors. Whether you're there for the high-value OG specials or the more adventurous fusion offerings, you're in for a treat. We'll definitely be back for more patio time!

It's been a while since he has had their tacos so today for lunch he asked me to grab him some. It's my first time in this joint. Walking in, it's quite loud and fun! It's got music going. Many patrons eating and talking. There are bright colors and banners everywhere. It looks like a fun and vibrant venue to have a good meal at. I ordered at the register. The gal that was helping me gave me basic service. Your average customer service. I grabbed 4 carne asada tacos without onions and cilantro for the husband and the chicken flauta combo meal for myself. I grabbed a table to hang out at while my order was being made. I wanted to grab some salsa to go at the sauce bar. There wasn't any to go cups available so I did ask someone for some. She said she would go grab some for me and never did. My food finally showed up and I had to ask another gal for the to go cups. I finally got my sauces and headed out the door. First glance at the food, I was excited! Everything looked fresh and delicious. The cheese was melty on the tacos. The quac, rice and beans looked good in my to go plate. But looks can be deceiving. Unfortunately, the carne asada was so dry. Dry in texture and just tough. Like the meat has been sitting for a while and they just grabbed the top helping of meat instead of mixing it. We did add a good amount of lime to add some wetness to the taco but it didn't help. Out of 4 tacos, my husband only ate 2. The chicken flautas looked promising. The tortilla was airy and crispy. I wish I can say good things about the chicken. The chicken pieces were too big. You would take a bite and the whole chicken chunk would come out. It was also dry and unflavored. The only thing that slightly helped the flauta was the sour cream and quac. The rice and beans were pretty generic so they were good. I spent 32 bucks on this meal for us to only eat half of. I don't know what happened for my husband to say the tacos were legit a while back to end up ordering this mediocre meal today. So disappointed with every part of my meal. Customer service was ok. So many fantastic Taquerias out there but this joint isn't one of them.

It shouldn't be the star of the show in my opinion, but rather a subtle/complimentary note. It was slightly overpowering on the lime side) Cons: - The asada meat quality seemed slightly low grade - The quesabirria was not crunchy in the slightest bit... something I'm always looking for after trying some top notch tacos in Cali - It was missing a little more flavor (I will say that we missed the hot sauce bar, so that could've added that additional flavor that was missing) Would we visit here again?
