When they arrived, they looked almost identical: deep-fried chicken in a sweet sauce. Only Kristy's dish had some slices of bell pepper, while mine had a piece of raw broccoli and some dried chiles. Tasting mine, it was definitely sweet and sour. When the waitress came around I asked if that dish was really Kung pao chicken and she assured me it was. I said the sauce was sweet and the chicken was deep-fried and was unlike any Kung pan chicken I'd ever had. She told me she would trade it out, although I was unsure what she was going to replace it with, since she had insisted that what I had received truly was Kung pao chicken. She returned a few minutes later and said the chef had made a mistake and was making the correct dish for me. It came out and was fine. But what bothered me is the server just assumed she had brought me the proper dish to begin with. If she had simply looked at it and agreed it looked nearly identical to Kristy's sweet and sour dish, she would have easily concluded a mistake had been made. Which I would have understood. Instead, she didn't believe my explanation of why it was the wrong dish. If I was the chef in the kitchen, I would have brought the corrected dish out to the customer myself and apologized personally. He took the easy way out by putting it on his waitress.
