Absolutely horrid. The doctors at OC Optometric group make me sick to my stomach. First, they referred me to have a Lasik consultation at a private business, without informing me that they would get a kickback from the company if I chose to have the Lasik done at that company. They pretended to be objective doctors, but they were acting out of a profit motive. It turns out, the Lasik company they referred me to is one of the most irresponsible Lasik companies in the country, which is now bankrupt.
Then, on the day of my surgery, the doctors at OC Optometric Group called my Lasik surgeon to tell him that they were "uncomfortable" with me having the surgery due to some readings they had taken. I only know this because I found a note in my medical records after the surgery. Apparently, the doctor at OC Optometric Group thought the surgery was a bad idea at the last minute -- but she never told me, the patient! In fact, the doctors at OC Optometric Group never explained ANY of the risks of Lasik surgery to me, and when one of the doctors officially objected to it, she bothered to tell the Lasik company but didn't bother to tell me. It seems her relationship with the Lasik company was more important than my health.
My eyes were injured by the surgery and my vision has been irreparably damaged. My eyes hurt all the time, I experience double vision (two kinds of it, vertical and horizontal), my night vision is hazardous, it takes great strain to read, and my eyeballs feel like balls of dust. What's worse, for months after the surgery, the OC Optometric Group either refused to see me or, when they did see me, defended the Lasik procedure and refused to acknowledge the existence, much less the severity, of most of my problems. At one point, the lead doctor at OC Optometric Group even told me that I must have a "brain tumor" or a "virus" in my brain - but said that "whatever the case, the laser vision [sic] didn't cause my problems."
Untrue. As it turns out, every single one of my problems traces to Lasik, and all are known risks of the procedure. These doctors at OC Optometric Group are, in my opinion, deeply, gravely unethical and ought not to be practicing medicine. They deceived me into having a procedure done at an irresponsible place, then they objected to the procedure without notifying me, then they abandoned me afterwards for months, and finally, when they did see me, they ignored, misinterpreted, and denied the facts of my case. I now wear special contact lenses, which serve as prosthetic corneas, to ameliorate some of the pain and restore some of the sharpness of my vision. What did the doctors at O. C. Optometric Group say about this particular type of lens? They told me it was only a band-aid, and that I definitely didn't need it. Actually, it's more than a band-aid, and you need special equipment to determine whether it's necessary, equipment which OC Optometric Group doesn't have.
Whether all of this was due to ignorance, incompetence, selfishness, malice, or some combination, I can't say. But I would NEVER recommend that anyone go to OC Optometric Group for their eye care needs. Find yourself an ethical practice. read more
