This is a ZERO STAR review, due to the fact that Yelp only provides one star as the lowest bar. My experience at OC Fish Grill on Sun eve was so disappointing, frustrating and worthy of a negative rebuke. My daughter and I arrived at 8:26 pm, the restaurant still active with patrons at 2 tables indoors and 3 outdoors. I inquired with the cashier if there was still time for a dine in option, and he responded "sure." We ordered, however cashier duplicated order, and it took couple more minutes to rectify. Our meal was delivered to our table @ 8:48 pm (how do I know the exact time? Because I took a photo of the meal). At precisely 9:00 pm, one of the servers turned off the outdoor patio lighting - totally disrespectful and rude. The other two tables remained seated for a few minutes, and then departed. We continued eating, and then at 9:05 pm, a server abruptly showed up at our table with a to go container, and without prior warning, requested we take the food home, as they were "closing immediately". My push back was respectful, asking for another 10 minutes to complete our meal, and he declined and said staff were all leaving the restaurant instantly. We did not wish to take fish home, wanted to avoid any confrontation, so we departed very annoyed and disappointed. My frustration grew the next day, so before resorting to drafting a negative review, I took the opportunity to visit the restaurant Monday morn, requesting to meet the owner to try make it right, who was 'conveniently' not available (because in this industry, we employ Managers to take the heat). So, Kelly (Manager) called me in the evening, and doubled down, reminding me again that OC Fish Grill close at 9 pm, and that's it! No remorse,very dismissive and no apology - just a concluding remark " sorry that you feel this way, and I hope you have a good week." I explained that we just spent $40 for a ten minute meal, and that was unacceptable to me. No mention of " my apologies for your experience - please return and I'll offer you 50% off, or maybe just a couple sodas or complimentary dessert" - that would have gone a long way to mend this broken fence. After researching many previous reviews on Yelp, particularly October 18, 2024 and June 27, 2025, I'm convinced that the owners of this establishment are so disengaged in the day to day operational side of this business, and probably only show up for occasional R & R, so here's my take; * Your staff appear so disinterested and create the impression they don't really want to be there at 8:30 pm on a Sun eve. Just a sixth sense, but they conduct themselves like relatives or friends of the owners, by virtue of their "whatever" demeanor and goofing around while I was visiting restroom and requesting additional sauces (which incidentally were no longer available @ 8:55 pm). * This is the restaurant/hospitality industry. Yes, it sucks when a customer shows up 5 min before closing time (and I'm not that guy!), but if you don't like it, choose another career. * If your concern is minimum wage, overtime etc, then display a sign at your counter, with last call for dine in @ 8:15 pm. Display courtesy and decency, don't shut off lighting without notice, and ordering patrons out of your premises with military precision. That's beyond rude. * Most restaurant employees don't normally leave at closing time, they remain there for cleanup, unless this restaurant employs an outside cleaning service after closing time. If staff are cleaning kitchen worktops and floors while meals are still being prepared - # Irvine Health Dept. * If your staff can't come to terms that the customer is always right, hire employees who do, or sell your business. * FYI - on Mon eve, I relayed the story to a friend of mine, so as an exercise, he reached out on the phone to your restaurant, and explained that he intended bringing his wife for dinner later in the eve @ 8:45 pm inquiring how late they could enjoy their meal, and your employee, Ogen stated 9:20 pm would be fine. Wow! Mon would have been a better bet for us. Dining out should feel welcoming, but this visit was disappointing, upsetting and annoying. For this reason, I can't recommend it to others. Ownership/ Management should take customer feedback seriously and train their staff accordingly. This is not my first rodeo at your restaurant, but it's certainly my last. It's not only what occurred......it's more how it was unsatisfactorily responded to. You're Fired! read more

A perfect place for a night out in irvine!!! As a 25+ year resident of irvine, I think OC fish grill has definitely addressed an unmet need with their Friday night live jazz event under the ceiling covered with grape vines and a service that is as friendly and warm as is attentive . But what is more impressive is the quality of fish they serve. I have never been disappointed with the Fish and chips with their lovely and healthy replacement options for fries. Salmon bowl is also one of my favorites. But Don't get me started on their Weekend Turkish breakfast. Amazing place to experience a little piece of heaven with reasonable prices. I live nearby and had never tried this place before, but honestly, I'm glad I did! I got the salmon with brussel sprouts and white rice, and my boyfriend got the fish tacos with corn and asparagus. Both dishes were really good. The appetizers were great too. Portions were generous, and the service was excellent. Extremely Disappointed - Poor Service, Cleanliness, and Zero Accountability As a small business owner myself, I truly understand the challenges of running a restaurant, but I was deeply disappointed with nearly every aspect of our experience at this establishment--from food to service to overall atmosphere. Where do I even begin? Lack of Professionalism: There was absolutely no consistency among staff--some were in uniform, others were not. No one appeared to have had any kind of training in customer service. We stood at the register for several minutes while four staff members walked past us repeatedly before someone finally decided to take our order. Food Experience: We ordered: - 2 kids' fish and rice - 1 grilled chicken sandwich (which came out fried and had to be sent back) - Grilled tilapia - Fried shrimp The kids' meals were served in visibly dirty bowls. The rest of the food was average at best--nothing that would make me return. We asked for lemons and were told they'd be brought to us, but after being forgotten, I ended up getting them myself. Service and Staff Conduct: Not once did anyone check in on our table. Instead, two staff members were playfully shadowboxing behind the counter just feet away from customers who were eating. It was beyond unprofessional. While we were dining on the patio, staff decided to remove the trash from nearby bins and walked right through the dining area swinging garbage bags--this is absolutely unacceptable in any food establishment. Lack of Support and Cleanliness: We asked for a takeout box. No one brought it, so again, I had to go up to the counter to get one. I asked to speak with a manager and was told no one was on duty. That explained everything. To top it off, I used the restroom on the way out--it was dirty, and there was no paper in the dispenser after washing my hands. Final Thoughts: This restaurant desperately needs a manager on shift to ensure staff are held accountable. There was no leadership, no urgency, and no care for the customer experience. Sadly, I will not be returning and absolutely cannot recommend this place to anyone. I'll be sticking with California Fish Grill, where professionalism and cleanliness are actually prioritized. I come to Irvine twice a year and ALWAYS eat here. Tonight, we were highly disappointed. We got skewered shrimp, Mahi Mahi, a Mahi sandwich, a breaded shrimp, taco, and a breaded fish taco. The grilled fish and sandwich were OK. The tacos were awful. The shrimp was super burnt to the point it disintegrated when you bit into it. The breaded fish was overdone and dry. The corn tortilla could not hold up to the overdone fish. They shorted us on the sides we ordered (French Fries), which was a good thing as they were super greasy and lame. The package was literally dripping with grease. When I went in to pick up the order, staff seemed a little confused and were not able to communicate effectively. The food sat on the counter as one more item needed to be added to the order. They were not busy, and the cooks seemed unmotivated to assist the server in completing our order. I'm not sure if there has been a change in ownership/management. A normally wonderful meal was definitely not in the making today. I expect to get what I pay for. read more

I've been here maybe five times in the past several years (I have a friend in the area); the fried fish tacos never disappoint. This isn't a fancy restaurant: you order at the counter and they bring you the food, but they have a very comfortable patio (indoor seating is also available), live music on weekends, and excellent parking. They also have an array of wine and beer, which is nice. The restaurant is clean, the food is good, and the service is more than adequate. Best fish tacos I've had in Irvine. I had a salmon taco and a battered deep fried white fish taco. Both were very good. The battered fish was crispy and fresh. The salmon was grilled and cooked perfectly. They were served with a delicious green salsa. The taco tortillas were thick and held together nicely. Tacos were on the larger side. As sides, I ordered fries and Brussel sprouts. The fries were fresh cut and tasty. The Brussels were charred and covered in a balsamic reduction and olive oil. Very good. Decided to eat here on a Friday night with my sister and our boyfriends. We got here around 5pm so it was still happy hour which is from 3pm-6pm. The whole outdoor patio is decorative with lights, vines, heat lamps and fireplaces. It creates such a cute ambiance for a date night. You should also come early on Friday nights because they have live jazz playing. OC Fish Grill is like another variation of California Fish Grill. They have similar items like various grilled/fried fish plates, soups, salads, bowls and tacos. I liked how they have lots of side options too like Brussels sprouts, corn, zucchini, eggplant, rice, quinoa, and sweet potato/French fries. There was so many good options but my boyfriend and I decided try the Grilled Catfish Plate and the Battered Fish Tacos. They also serve beer and wine and had a dessert display of cakes if you're craving anything sweet afterwards. I also liked how they had cucumber or lemon water to chose from to drink which was something different. Grilled Catfish Plate (5/5): When you eat the catfish you can taste the charcoal from the grill. The catfish is also not dry and soft. We dipped it in their cajun butter which is so bomb! We also got rice and zucchini as sides and it was good as well. Battered Fish Tacos (5/5): During happy hour these tacos were only $9- a dollar discount from the usual price. They have very good fish n chips and calamari with multiple sides to choose from. I recommend to go with the combo (battered fish plus shrimp or calamari).
