He always charged me a fair price which is why I respect him a lot. I've never had a BS service recommended by him. Everything is "hey, look at this" or "this is what is wrong". Byron totally saved me." Well my friend doesn't have a Yelp account (yet) but this got me to thinking about "Why have I never written a review for a Performance Auto?" So, here goes. I started taking my Prius here about eight or nine years ago. They always try to make sure that I'm informed about what's going on and offer me a good value, including explaining what services are really necessary. At this point, my car has over 200K miles on it and it is in excellent shape. This has lead to me to referring many people to Performance Auto over the years. Other members of my family, and a couple different friends, have all started servicing their cars here. What's started out for me as a convenient location has really turned into a trusted, efficient, affordable family business that I would use for any of my auto care or service needs. Incompetent Repair and Hostile, Unprofessional Ownership…read more Performance Auto Placentia is run like a prison yard, not a professional auto repair shop. In February, I paid this shop to replace the water pump and timing belt on my 2004 Lexus. The job was botched. I have had to bring the vehicle back twice, the belts are still squeaking, and it still smells strongly of radiator fluid. When confronted with his failed work, the owner completely deflected, claiming it was a "different car" instead of taking responsibility for a paid job that was never fixed properly. I am now forced to take my vehicle elsewhere to have it repaired correctly. On top of technical incompetence, the owner is incredibly rude, condescending, and confrontational. He has zero customer service skills or basic respect. Yesterday, I paid over $600 to have brakes put on my 2017 Lexus. The owner told me to come back the next morning at 7:30 AM for a quick "five-minute turn on the wrenches" to make an adjustment. I showed up early and waited quietly. Instead of doing the work, the owner came out and aggressively lectured me about being early like he is some kind of God. He is an aggressive, rude control freak who tries to exert arbitrary power over paying customers. He knew clearly that I am currently grieving the profound loss of my father, yet he chose to act with absolute malice and a total lack of proper bedside manner. I looked him dead in the eye at 7:42 AM and told him face-to-face that he will never recover from this. He has permanently ruined his shop's reputation with me, his son should be ashamed of his behavior, and I am entirely done dealing with this business. Avoid this shop at all costs. Response to the owners reply to my review: You were on site, the belt needed re-tightening, and you sent me away instead of doing the five-minute adjustment you asked me to return for. You say there was no aggression, then apologize for being heated. Both can't be true. Calmly raising a concern isn't 'telling you off.' You also never addressed the coolant smell that has persisted since the February water pump job. A shop that asks a customer to come back should be ready when they do. Because of how this was handled, I now have to take my car to another shop and pay out of pocket to have the work done correctly. A detailed complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair-BAR has been submitted for the poor workmanship and libelous/untrue writings to this review by the owner. All records and writings have been preserved as evidence.

They told me they filled it with coolant and the AC still didn't work. They charged me $150 for coolant that fixed nothing. Then they 'ran some tests' which took 3 days and cost another $400. They concluded my whole AC system needed to be replaced for $1.5k and 'found' another $6k worth of problems with my car on top of that. I took my car in to another shop, they said my coolant was empty, charged me $50 for coolant and my AC has been working perfectly for the last 4 months. They also said that my car was fine and nothing needed to be replaced or fixed, basically confirming these A1 A$$holes made up the 'repairs needed'.
