I made an online appointment and got the confirmation text. Then, when I arrived at the salon it was dark and the door was locked. I understand that salons open and close due to COVID. However, it's completely unprofessional to allow online booking (AND charge my credit card) when they're not open. There is nothing on Yelp, their website, or their phone voicemail to indicate they are closed. There is also no contact information on their Yelp or website other than their phone number, which they do not answer, so I have no idea if or when I will ever get a refund for this. read more

Finding a good stylist in LA is a lot harder than you'd think. It took me several years, salons, and too much money before finding Kana at Object. One of the most important things to me in finding a stylist is finding someone who listens and does exactly what you want not what they think you should have. Kana listens to my requests and executes beautifully. I have very long hair with layers and like to keep it that way. Kana uses the Japanese method to cut hair -- cutting it when it's dry instead of wet which I prefer, so I can realistically what my hair will look like when it's done. I usually will bring in pictures as reference of what I'd like as well as emphasize what I don't want, and she keeps it all in mind while still adding her creative touch as you can see in the bayalage job she did on me in my pictures. She's also sweet and fun to chat with. I can't believe the caliber of quality and service I get at such a reasonable price. I commend the owner of Object for proving that you can have a top notch salon with no pretentiousness at fair rates in Los Angeles. The salon is conveniently located next to restaurants and cafés for before or after meals. There's metered parking and side street parking. If your meter time is up before your appointment is done, the salon assistant willows your car for you. Nice touch. I highly recommend Object Salon! read more

I'm actually surprised that I haven't written a review for Mimi yet. Since I've gone to her 3 times already. All those times I've been super impressed. She's a perfectionist, patient and really sweet. I came in last night to get my hair ombred where it's a little lighter brown on top and the bottom is rose gold. She colored, washed, blow dryed my hair a few times until she was satisfied with the outcome. The color is phenomenal!!! It is a bit darker. But with a few washes it will come out to a beautiful blend of rose gold. If I had gone to someone else they probably would've botched my hair (as that's happened to me many times before). You will not be disappointed if you go to Mimi. She is diligent in giving you what you want and will work very hard to accomplish that. Finally, i've found my salon. After some heinous haircuts at various overpriced salons, I had a great experience with Mayu. I had an appointment on Sunday - she's one of the few stylists who will work on Sunday. So easy & free parking on the street in front of the salon! She did an awesome scalp massage with my shampoo - I wished that I could have had a longer massage. The best one that I've gotten in a long time. I wanted a trim and some bangs. I told her that I was keeping my hair longer so I could have the option of an updo for my upcoming wedding. She did a great job giving my hair some texture, cleaning it up, and it's grown out super well in the past few weeks. I will definitely be back. Thanks Yelp! She called it the "lazy blond" approach; it seemed odd to me, no time under the dryer -- more like lazy stylist. $350 is what the best salons on Main Street in Santa Monica charge for a look that lasts 6-8 weeks. After moving to the US (as I'm writing this 4 years ago..) I did not trust anyone but Jet at Hands Hair Salon in London to cut my hair (Look it up - amazing!) WOW. My boyfriend and I have both gotten our hair cuts by Kazu and Mayu. Kazu is the sweetest man, but I'm not sure he totally understood what I wanted. Despite that I loved the salon, vibe and people, so I trusted the place again and this time went to Mayu. She is amazing!!!! She has given me the dream hair cut I've always wanted. I went in and showed her a few printed pictures, I told her what I wanted and what I didn't. Mid way through my cut she had noticed that my hair was much thicker than she originally thought and asked me my opinion on blending it out and thinning it, I went with it and the outcome was great!!! She does free bangs trim also. Experience: - Call up and book an appointment (obviously) but just a word of advice, they are open on Sundays and it's a much more calmer experience, Saturdays at Object are manic! -Street parking, so bring quarters, there's also parking in the Starbucks/small mall area a block up -Head massage and shampoo is great! -They never sell you into buying products and are not pushy with this at all -I've seen men, women and kids here, and though all the stylists are asian, I've seen all types of people come and get their hair cut! - I think there is a discount when you are a first timer, maybe 20% (I can't remember as it's been a while) Thanks Object Salon for a great experience every time! read more

This salon was recommended to me by a friend, so I went in to get balayage and a trim. Everything seemed fine and the stylist was very nice, but when I was leaving I noticed that there was a ton of very long hair on the floor, and I had only gotten about an inch and a half off the bottom. When I got home, I realized the stylist had overprocessed my hair to the point where it broke off about two inches from the top in various spots all over my head. I am horrified to find that I now I have short pieces of hair throughout. I didn't realize what had happened in the salon, but the stylist clearly did and just didn't want to admit it because she told me not to flat iron my hair as often and to get a hair mask. I will never come here again and I absolutely do not recommend getting any color done. read more

Thumbs up for an awesome find, thanks to Yelp! For my 23rd birthday, I wanted to do something different with my hair. My hair had grown down to my butt and it was time for a haircut. All previous hair dye had grown out, so it was essentially virgin black-brown again. I was very hesitant about changing my hair, out of fear it would be a very expensive disaster. So I researched hair salons day and night, until I finally decided to go to Object Salon. It was close to my apartment, reviews were awesome, and prices weren't too crazy $$$$. I had found Kana's instagram (@hairbykana) a week before and originally wanted to get my hair done by hair because I was looking for a bayalage/ombre mix. Her pictures were awesome and exactly what I had in mind. Unfortunately, when I called, her earliest appointment was May (man, she sure is popular!) so I decided to just book my appointment the next day if they had someone available. They paired me up with Miki, and she is awesome!! Miki is one of the sweetest girls I've ever met. I came in for a cut and color, and she took her time to make sure I got exactly what I want. She showed me the color selections beforehand, and helped me avoid that overly brassy look. She also didn't try to push products on me that I wouldn't need, which I really appreciate. I came in at 12:30, and I walked out around 3pm. My hair looked awesome after Miki was done with me! :) The price afterwards was very reasonable, especially in comparison with what some other stylists were charging for cut & color. The 20% discount for first time clients made it an even better deal! Overall, I'm glad I came here, because I'm in love with my new hair style. I've been going to Kana for 6+ years now. I've never gotten my hair professionally colored before, until this year! I finally made the decision to try out the ombre look. I was really nervous about going too blonde since I've always kept my hair dark. But I brought in some pictures of celebrities' hair that I really liked to show Kana. She did such an amazing job giving me ombre highlights that were subtle, yet noticeable, but not too drastically blonde. I loved it! I got so many compliments on my hair. Six months later, my ombre highlights still look great! I went in for a touch up to darken my hair slightly for fall. Kana used a toner to bring down my hair one shade darker. I love the darkened shade on my 6-month old highlights! It actually looks like I got new highlights all over again! I really highly recommend Kana for cut and color! I've been to this salon for four times. My experience so far has been good, but that all changed during my most recent visit. The whole appointment went ok until I went to the front desk to pay. Their payment system had some issues, so I was there waiting. Then Mia brought her client over to pay & trying to fix the issue. When the issue was fixed, Mia pushed me to the side & just started checking her client out by saying "my client has to go". Just because I was not her client, but I was there first. She did not even show a little respect and ask if she can check her client out first. She did not even apologize afterward for letting me stood there & wait. She was very distasteful & disrespectful. I have been to Japanese and local salons many times, but have never been treated like this by one of the hairstylist! She should be ashamed and fired because the hairstylist represents not just him/herself, but most importantly, the salon and its owner! Quite happy with my brunette balayage! I wanted something subtle that would give my hair dimension but not contrast too much with my natural color, and that's exactly what I got! Just the right amount of lightness. Right after getting my hair done it still looked pretty dark but once I washed it a few times, the toner wore off and the highlights now look brighter which I prefer. The price was reasonable - I paid $170 for long hair (color and style). the salon is clean and roomy, and the staff was welcoming. Will definitely come back here for future hair needs! read more

I am Asian & they both cut & color my hair beautifully! The colors are spot on (they pull out references asking which tone / color I want as the darkest, lightest and how far down it should go, etc). The questions were super detailed oriented and then Miki executed EXACTLY what we discussed. She also gave great artistic advice, which I super appreciate. The only downside is that I didn't know how much work the color would be to maintain -- could have had more education around that -- but then again I did not ask that many questions (lesson learned). I haven't been back in over a year but I still I love Object Salon and recommend to everyone (especially Asians). I am subtracting one star because their prices are not cheap. I do believe you get what you pay for -- especially in this case. I go to them when I want the best -- especially for color because I only trust a few people. For haircuts, while they have amazing quality, I can't shell out the $80- $100 each time so I maintain my cuts with cheaper vendors. It's good for a special occasion and/or higher rollers than me. read more

Mia did a beautiful job on my hair, I have tons of thick hair that like super blonde, but still ashy and blended, she took my major ombré/roots to a perfect soft blend with the rest of my hair. She also did it very quickly! She is super sweet and gives you a fantastic shampoo as well! I asked for a super minimal trim and she didn't take any more off than the tiny amount I asked, which I really appreciate as I'm growing my hair back out. I really like Object Salon and have been going there for a trim for over 10 years. I always saw Mayu and she was wonderful. More recently I booked online with someone new. I got a call earlier in the day asking if I wanted to come in earlier due to a cancellation so I did. The stylist was cordial and skilled but after my trim he asked if it was okay for me to air dry my hair. I have never been sent away with wet hair from this salon before so I asked if he could blow dry my hair because I needed to be somewhere later that evening. It seemed that he didn't have time to do so because there was another client waiting. When I checked out I was charged $150 (for a 3" trim, nothing fancy) which was much more than what I usually pay. I'm not sure if they changed their policy and drying is an additional cost now but in the past decade+ I have been going there, blow dry was included with the cut at no additional charge. I do have very thick hair and that's why I always tip very high - I was just surprised and slightly disappointed by the change in service this time around. I still really like this salon and they have talented stylists. I will just have to do more research prior to my appointment next time. read more
