During the holidays, my tuxedo cat, Jasper, began showing signs of illness. On Jan 2nd I brought…read morehim in to my regular vet because he was very unwell. They were fully booked and busy, so I was referred to Langston. I called and they were able to see him at 4pm. I went truly thinking he was fine. That they would look at him, prescribe some antibiotics, and I would have my baby back home and fine in a few hours. His test results were not good. He was very sick, more than he had been showing me. I was a wreck. I still am. I was alone with my mom on the phone with me. By 6pm that night I had lost my baby. I am now $1k in credit card debt. Which doesn't seem like much, but for me it is. The tests I had done on him I would do again. I wanted to know as much as I could before making the decision to end his life. The doctor was very clear on how expensive these tests were, for which I'm grateful. But there was a lot of upselling involved in that conversation. Not to mention the amount there was when it came to cremation decisions. I asked for one thing extra when they were taking him away to do his prints for me. I wanted his whiskers. They were long and pretty and such a big part of his personality. The nurse, who's name I can't remember, was kind and hugged me and promised to put his whiskers in with his prints. 2 months later and I have not received his prints or his whiskers. USPS can't do anything without a tracking number. I've called several times. Had them look in the back several times. Told them I need a tracking number but no one can provide it. Now, I am moving states in less than 2 weeks and still don't have them. They seem exasperated with me on the phone. I had to watch the cat I've had since I was 16 years old die on a cold table in a sterile room. My best friend through the hardest times of my young adult life. He took a piece of my soul with him that night and I just wanted that piece of him to keep. I wouldn't recommend this vet to anyone at this point.

The cost was lower than if I had taken them to a groomer. I was very impressed. I will definitely be taking my dogs back to them when I'm in the area.

Theodore Veterinary Hospital - Tinkerbelle yesterday - clearly in pain.

Great experience start to finish, which was not at all what I expected. Our eleven-year-old…read moreAustralian Shepherd has laryngeal paralysis. Two days ago, she was in the yard which she fell, yelping in pain. Yesterday, she was lethargic which - if you have an Aussie - you know is wildly atypical. I thought the paralysis had taken its toll and we would have to put her down. Kathy made our appointment. She was empathetic and very helpful over the phone. When we arrived, the receptionist and the vet tech were each super nice and very professional. Dr. Gilson examined Tinkerbelle thoroughly. He explained the utility of each diagnostic and treatment option he recommended, and he quoted us the price. He found that she had fairly extensive osteoarthritis and recommended treatment. Our story had a happy ending because we arrived fearing it was time to euthanize and discovered our dog's problem was treatable. It's also a happy ending because, had it turned out it was time to let our dog go, I feel confident they would have handled that outcome with skill and compassion. Every interaction was excellent. We've had dogs for over 30 years, and we've had a range of experiences with veterinarians over the years. Retired, we now split time between Colorado and Alabama. When we are in Alabama, Dr. Gilson is our new vet and Theodore Veterinary Hospital is our new clinic.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, we called Theodore Veterinary Hospital to ask about the cost of…read morecremating our 14-year-old Labrador, "Half-Pint". Since we are both retired, we needed to know the price in advance. We were told that the basic package was $200 and that packages increased to almost $400 depending on what you wanted. We said we wanted the basic package for $200. Upon arriving with our dying family member and pet (Half-Pint), we asked to have her humanely put down and cremated only to be informed that the price of cremation was now $289 after being told just an hour before that it was $200. Not only that, they kept trying to sell us packages of up to $400 as we were grieving. We have been customers for over a year only to have them lie, deceive, and prey on us during this very emotional and painful time. I told them that this is not what we were told and we wanted the $200 basic package we were quoted. The technician said she understood and went to get the manager. While we were waiting, a second technician came in with the same options and also tried to sell us a more expensive package. The manager nonchalantly walked into the room where I had to explain everything all over again all while the dog lay there suffering. The manager said there was nothing she could do and that the girl up front had quoted the wrong price. I told her this was deceiving and we should not have to be dealing with this on top of losing our pet. She said, "What do you want me to do?" I said ,"Honor the price we were quoted." She said," I can't do that." As I left to get our vehicle, one of the girls at the front desk asked if everything was alright, I told her, in front of other customers standing there listening what was going on. The manager walked up and got in my face and said I needed to go that there were customers standing there listening and I told them they better leave if they didn't want to be lied to and deceived because you can't trust what these people tell you. Theodore Veterinary Hospital was going to charge us over $500 for euthanasia and cremation. We called our former vet in Baldwin County and they said they would take care of her. Their fee for the same procedure was under $400. They seemed more concerned with what we were going through with losing a member of our family. I was left with not being there for my family because I had to take my 89 year old mother to the doctor that morning so I could not be there for my wife or my pet and family member when she was put to sleep. This stressful situation with Theodore Veterinary Hospital caused my heart condition to act up as they were only interested in making as much money as they could off of our distress and pain of losing our family member "Half-Pint".
