One star could not do my dead dog justice, but that's my only option. My 14 year old dog Charlie,…read morehad been going here since he was born in the early 2010's. Years ago, he started having breathing issues and we started seeing Dr. Mary Edwards exclusively. He was put on a few medications, and we were fine... until his recent ACL injury, about a month ago. Charlie was a very food driven, active, bubbly dog. After Dr. Mary told me he had an ACL injury, I asked about an injection called Adequan, after doing light research the night before. She lit up and said that would be a great option, so they show me how to administer the medication, gave us some Galliprant, and sent me on my way. Two weeks ago, Charlie started vomiting and having diarrhea. We were trying to give it a few days just incase his stomach was upset. It continued, he began to lay in bed all day and refused food/water. Friday, we took him to a separate vet and they informed us that Charlie was in stage 4 kidney disease, and those two medications he was prescribed are things they can't have if he has kidney disease. This doctor didn't suggest or mention testing his blood before going on these medications. Also, I was never informed of any side effects, or anything to look out for if the medication wasn't right for him. This morning, we had to make the grueling decision to euthanize our sweet boy. His creatinine levels had reached 11 and at that point, he was suffering, in pain, and laboring to breathe. He was my bestfriend since I was in kindergarten, and now he is an angel in heaven. Please, read a few other reviews, as I wish I would've, and take your animal somewhere else.

When we went to have the surgery 2 weeks ago, they ask that you drop off in morning and then you pick them up that afternoon. They offer bloodwork and pain medicine in addition to the price quoted on the phone that are optional. They give you a paper to fill out when you arrive so you can select what all you want to do for your pet. We opted to have bloodwork, medicine and her nails trimmed too. They call you during and or after surgery to keep you posted. We were relieved to hear she was doing great. They offered to remove her back dew claws because she had already injured them and I had meant to ask them about it, but forgot so I was very happy they called and asked. They were very efficient and professional. The entire staff worked as a team and you can tell they love animals. Overall they had the best pricing (even with the add-ons they offer) and everything went well.

Upon arrival he was taken back then I was placed in an exam room. Moments later dr and a front desk person came in. Dr stated clearly my dog was suffering from blunt force trauma. That the cost would run $600 to $1300 and i would need to pay the higher amount now so tje dr could treat him. It was Dec. 23rd at 8:15 pm. There was no way i had that much money. So I was left in the room to make phone calls to raise the funds. Which I did. I was then left in exam room again about an hour when the Dr came in to say that Xray showed at least his left lung was full of blood or something. I asked what that meant for his life Dr said lets wait and see. He left again and still Im left in exam room until about 11:30 pm when a front desk person came in and asked me to step out since they needed the room. Apparently all other exam rooms were now filled up. I stepped out to waiting room. There was no one at front desk and I waited alone until finally front desk person returned. I asked about my dog she went in back and came back stated the Dr is observing him at this point and will be keeping him over night in and oxygen tent. I asked then why am I still just waiting? Can I go home? I've been there 4 hours now with no real communication. Im scared and in shock myself from the attack and my dogs condition. I also needed to work on Christmas Eve. They asked the Dr and he said there was no reason for me to be waiting around. They let me back to see my dog before leaving. The back area was packed with patients and my dog was in a kennel in a narrow area away from the working area. He looked the same. He did not knowledge me nor react in anyway. Still panting to breathe with tongue out and glazed eyes. It was terrifying. Then i left. At about 4:30 am I called to see how he was doing and was told he was doing better but that I was going to need to find someplace else for him since they were closing at Noon and he would need specialized care. Its Christmas and I'm scheduled to work untl 3pm. I get on phone and start to call places to no avail. At 7 am I get a call to say his heart stopped and what did I want them to do. They wanted to know if I wanted to go ahead and euthanize him. I said yes; I was totally traumatized!!! It wasn't until weeks later I realized if his heart stopped he was dead, right? So why did they have to euthanize him. Just for padding the bill is my opinion!!! Later I learned that the Xrays not only showed his lung was full of blood but also his heart was crushed. So MedVet did one of two things. One kept him alive or told me he was still alive to warrant the money they charged me or they simply left him all night long since they were so busy. They left my 2 year old tea cup Chihuahua suffering all that time. Any good Vet would have known with a crushed heart and full lung(s) he would not survive. This experience has been true torture for my dog made to lay there slowly dying in pain and struggling to breathe and torture to me knowing how he was treated by " Professionals" . It was all about the money and not patient care. Picture of my boy when he was alive.

So much so that we could not wait for her quality of life check the next day at her normal vet. We called this location and they told us to come in. We brought our little girl in and the staff was so incredibly helpful and nice. We ended up having to send our girl over the rainbow bridge and the staff was so nice and compassionate during one of the worst days of my life. They handled the situation so gracefully. Fast forward to this week, we received Chloe's remains and we even got a card from this location that was signed by the staff and had a paw print on a card from our Chloe. For someone that had never visited this location, they treated us like family and for that, I will be forever grateful

I only recently learned of " Yelp".. I do agree with what he said, I believe I get the best care for my animals and Dr. Leslie is just super awesome !! My sister and dad raved about him so when I was looking to change my vet , naturally , I switched to him and it was the best decision I ever made . Not only is he a great Veterinarian, he's also just a super nice funny , great guy who loves the same pretzels I do !! Lol seriously, it's nice going to a place where everyone knows you and they know your pets, so not only do you get quality care , you get personal care as well ... Dr. Leslie has done surgery twice now on my male German shepherd and both times , my dog-Harley , has done very well afterward . I've never worried, I've always had complete confidence in everyone there , they are truly a great group of people you would want taking care of your animals!! And a little side note here : the very first veterinarian office I ever used as an adult when I got my first dog out on my own was " Village Animal Clinic", and I believe the year was 1982, not sure , and I believe the vet's name that started the clinic was Dr. Hugh Pickett. It was located in the shopping center where B & B Pet stop is ! THANK-YOU DR. LESLIE & STAFF , for helping our animals and making it easier for us not to WORRY !! We love & respect you all immensely for that ... Robin & Jay Murray Harley, Sadie and the cats - Baxter & Oscar

Two days ago, she was in the yard which she fell, yelping in pain. Yesterday, she was lethargic which - if you have an Aussie - you know is wildly atypical. I thought the paralysis had taken its toll and we would have to put her down. Kathy made our appointment. She was empathetic and very helpful over the phone. When we arrived, the receptionist and the vet tech were each super nice and very professional. Dr. Gilson examined Tinkerbelle thoroughly. He explained the utility of each diagnostic and treatment option he recommended, and he quoted us the price. He found that she had fairly extensive osteoarthritis and recommended treatment. Our story had a happy ending because we arrived fearing it was time to euthanize and discovered our dog's problem was treatable. It's also a happy ending because, had it turned out it was time to let our dog go, I feel confident they would have handled that outcome with skill and compassion. Every interaction was excellent. We've had dogs for over 30 years, and we've had a range of experiences with veterinarians over the years. Retired, we now split time between Colorado and Alabama. When we are in Alabama, Dr. Gilson is our new vet and Theodore Veterinary Hospital is our new clinic.

Since we are both retired, we needed to know the price in advance. We were told that the basic package was $200 and that packages increased to almost $400 depending on what you wanted. We said we wanted the basic package for $200. Upon arriving with our dying family member and pet (Half-Pint), we asked to have her humanely put down and cremated only to be informed that the price of cremation was now $289 after being told just an hour before that it was $200. Not only that, they kept trying to sell us packages of up to $400 as we were grieving. We have been customers for over a year only to have them lie, deceive, and prey on us during this very emotional and painful time. I told them that this is not what we were told and we wanted the $200 basic package we were quoted. The technician said she understood and went to get the manager. While we were waiting, a second technician came in with the same options and also tried to sell us a more expensive package. The manager nonchalantly walked into the room where I had to explain everything all over again all while the dog lay there suffering. The manager said there was nothing she could do and that the girl up front had quoted the wrong price. I told her this was deceiving and we should not have to be dealing with this on top of losing our pet. She said, "What do you want me to do?" I said ,"Honor the price we were quoted." She said," I can't do that." As I left to get our vehicle, one of the girls at the front desk asked if everything was alright, I told her, in front of other customers standing there listening what was going on. The manager walked up and got in my face and said I needed to go that there were customers standing there listening and I told them they better leave if they didn't want to be lied to and deceived because you can't trust what these people tell you. Theodore Veterinary Hospital was going to charge us over $500 for euthanasia and cremation. We called our former vet in Baldwin County and they said they would take care of her. Their fee for the same procedure was under $400. They seemed more concerned with what we were going through with losing a member of our family. I was left with not being there for my family because I had to take my 89 year old mother to the doctor that morning so I could not be there for my wife or my pet and family member when she was put to sleep. This stressful situation with Theodore Veterinary Hospital caused my heart condition to act up as they were only interested in making as much money as they could off of our distress and pain of losing our family member "Half-Pint".
