Recently I have been dealing with my 13 yr old dog that has been fighting a cough. This cough has…read moregotten progressively worst so I took her in Feb. 2011 to my regular local vet in West Mobile and they could not diagnose it ( said it could be many things - they don't know) so they gave me cough pills for her. Then in May I came in for more pills because she was not better. In Nov. it was unbearable with the sweet little dog was coughing all day and night. When I took her back the W. Mobile vet they quoted me $500 to run tests to "maybe" figure out what it is. WELL I HAD HAD ENOUGH!! Enter 2nd opinion VET.... I have a relative that lives in Mobile, AL but drives out to Dr. Karl & Kelli Smith in Lucedale, MS for her pet because the fees are so fair and they know what they are doing concerning her pet. So I walked out of the West Mobile Vet and made an appointment in Lucedale, MS. When we arrived (50 minutes - 38 miles) from my home-- the place was very busy with folks and their pets waiting and popping in to buy various medications for their pets. Jennifer at the front desk runs a tight ship and is non stop. We did have to wait but it was well worth it. They took x-rays, gave a shot straight into her throat and other medications. I walked away with an diagnoses about her health and medications and the total bill was only $121 This VET is concerned about your pets, well trained and DO NOT OVER PRICE for their services. We are moving both our pets their. Thankful for this Vet!! Their email address is: gcvet39452@yahoo.com

I had to drive 2+ hours from Jackson, MS to Hattiesburg to Animal Medical Center on April 29, 2024…read morefor emergency surgery. My Golden Retriever, Max, was bleeding into a splenic mass and was anemic. He was 11-12 years old. I am a physician, an anesthesiologist for over 40 years, so I understood the gravity of the situation. Even before I arrived, Dr. Mayfield, II, called me on the phone to check on us. When we arrived, the employees immediately carried him out of my car for emergency surgery for treatment and diagnosis. Dr. Mayfield thoroughly discussed what we would do if the diagnosis was dire. They started blood and took him back to surgery within 30 minutes. The diagnosis was dire: he had a splenic mass full of tumor, with metastasis to his pancreas, liver, bowel, and kidney. Dr. Mayfield called me and took me back to surgery to see Max under anesthesia, and I said my goodbyes and let him go.... Dr. Mayfield then spent additional mourning moments with me and was very kind. I then made cremation arrangements and delivery of the remains to me. I also asked for histology on the tumors, as I had lost another Golden, Luka, age 13 or14, to hemangiosarcoma last year. Dr. Mayfield called me about 2 weeks later to say the pathologist reported high-grade lymphoma. The entire treatment, including the cremation, was very expensive--about $4000. As a physician, I understand the high costs of surgery, blood transfusion, anesthesia and other veterinary technicians. Everyone at the Center was extremely kind to me throughout my ordeal at their clinic. I was so thankful that there was a full-service surgery/ICU clinic available to me on that day. From the moment I arrived there, I felt that Max would be well-cared for by Dr. Mayfield and his staff, and he was.

I heard bad reviews about this place and I really didn't want to bring her here but it was my only option. They gave and her xray and they told me there was some gas in her stomach. I'm thinking "Oh okay they'll probably give me some medicine and I'll move on with my day" Right? Wrong. Out of nowhere they started suggesting she had swallowed some string even though they couldn't see it on the xray?? They were telling me it could be fatal if she didn't get surgery in 5-6 days. They gave me a $4-7,000 estimate!!! For reference I am a broke 20 year old, no way I could afford that. I told them I would take her somewhere else and I did. I paid $500 that day for an xray. Took her to the vet in my hometown that was 2+ hours away. Turns out she just had a UTI!! She stayed two nights over there and all I had to pay was $225 for everything including her medicine. This place is a scam please never take your pet here.
