They did wonderful and had great prices with our dogs, but when it came to our large animals (cows, horses) they were always "too busy today." We were told we'd get a call back and never did. Lost the mama and baby calf during labor today. With Lucedale being more of a rural area with cows, horses, etc more large animal vets are needed. read more

George County Vet does have reasonable prices, however you can expect long wait times and a haphardly run office. They did not keep my dog's heart medicine in stock nor could they approve an order online, because their fax was broke. So I ended up having to take my dog somewhere else anyway. I waited one time while my dog was very sick for 3 hours only to realize someone had not pulled my dog's chart. If you try to call, you are on hold forever. So there is a price to pay to getting a good price. read more

There are not many current reviews for the George County Vet Clinic in Lucedale MS which usually bothers me but in this case it is simply because everyone who uses them knows how good they have always been and still are. A well run family of Veternarian clinic with experienced staff. Yes there is a wait at times but that is usually because they take as much time as needed for each pet. Referred by a co-worker and decided to give this place a try by boarding our dog one day; bad mistake. Called ahead of time to see if they needed anything and made sure they KNEW he had never been there. They said not to bring anything but him- when we arrived, we had to wait OVER 30 minutes before they told us they needed his shot record. REALLY!! After we get his shot records from the vets via the phone- they took him and told us to call an hour or so before pick up so they could bathe him. We did just that. He had actually JUST had a bath before we dropped him off and was clean as we would never allow him in the car not clean and he gets baths regularly anyway. Either way- they gave him to us soaking wet and smelling horrible. Tried to call and talk to someone about it, but hung up after being on hold forever again. Not a great first impression. read more

So thankful of all of these Drs who are always available when my pups need them. Dr Karl Smith is known for his expertise for the English Bulldog. If you are pet owner, any book would tell you, have your records when boarding your dog, call the old vet and have records sent or go and get them and make a copy for boarding emergencies and present them when switching vets or traveling!! by Jen T. on 07/30/2015 Well I called to get a price on a four paw declaw for my kitten. I spoke to a male (office manager) and was quoted $75 to do the front claws and $105 to do all four. I got he details and dropped her off on Tuesday morning as directed. I spoke with the front desk girl and added pain medication for $10 and a booster shot for $25. Grand total $140. I tried to pay her but she said she was too busy to take my payment and could I please pay her the next morning when I picked her up. I advised her I couldn't pick her up because I live in Gulfport (80 miles) and that my mom was going to get her for me. This is why I wanted to take care of the bill. She asked me if she could take my care credit card number down and run it later. I agreed. I get my cat the next evening and the invoice is for $160 with a breakdown of charges but $20 higher then what not one, but two employees told me I would be paying. I called just now and after a lengthy discussion I was told that there must have been a miscommunication and that they were sorry. No way I told her. I drove a total of 160 miles to use my moms vet (I'm new to Mississippi) and then my mom had to drive the same distance to being the cat back. I did all this as it was cheaper then doing it by my house. I was put on hold and the Dr was informed of the reason for my call. Dr Smith wants to apologize but there will be no credits or refunds issued. I once again explained that this miscommunication had NOTHING to do on my part and I trusted them to do what they said they were going to do. I trusted them with my credit card. This is unbelievable and such a misuse of my trust. It is bad business and I will let everyone know that Dr Smith and George County Vet is a group of heartless crooks and a simple refund of $20 would have made this right. I wanted to save money and yes, the cat got her procedure but at a higher cost them just the lousy $20 we are disputing. Thank you Dr Smith. They claim to be budget conscious at George County Animal Clinic and in a sense that is true because they haven't the slightest inclination as to what they are doing, which will result in them not properly diagnosing your pet and it dying, saving you hundreds, perhaps thousands of $ in Vet bills that you would have been required to pay had they been competent enough to diagnose your pet's issue. I have a male dog who is getting older in years and as of a couple months ago, he began having trouble walking. I have been making the hour drive from Mobile and taking him to George County Vet Clinic for the past 3 years or so, but those were for shots and other minor issues, nothing major. Upon taking him in a little over a month ago, I saw one of their Vet's Keli, who mentioned to me that because of my dogs age, I should be concerned about the possibilities of testicular cancer. I wanted to breed my dog at some point, but that never worked out, and I didn't have the heart to have him neutered later in life, although I was aware of the consequences. He had taken a turn for the worse and I had expected something serious was going on. After bringing up the C word, I ask if she could please evaluate him to see if she thought he had developed cancer. She immediately asked me if his testicles were normally that large or if they appear to be swollen up more so than normal. I agreed that they did look abnormally large and I also made mention of a spot on his side that I was concerned with before they carried him away for xrays. After bringing my dog back into the waiting room, she mentioned that the spot on his side was not any cause for concern, prescribed me $60 worth of meds and told me that she attempted to examine his testicles but he appeared to be sensitive back there and as a result, she didn't examine a dog for cancer, who 15 minutes previously, she was preaching about the concerns of having a 10 year old male dog with his testicles. Are you not trained in Vet school how to deal with dogs who may be sensitive to strangers examining their testicles. That immediately threw up all kinds of red flags, but being tight on $, I didn't have much choice. I was already there and desperate to find out some answers. I left that day with a $180 bill, and not 2 days later, the spot on his side that I was concerned with, ruptured and bled everywhere all over him. I called to schedule another appointment and 4 days later took my dog back into George CVC. This time I saw Matthew and immediately expressed concern with how Kelli examined him previously. He shaved the hair on his side to access the spot that ruptured and told me to go buy neosporin and bandages to clean it myself. Newsflash, Matt, I took him into you in order for him to receive the treatment he needed, not for you to tell me how to treat him at home and what supplies to go buy. At this point I feel like I'm in some kind of bizarro world where they give you a license to practice Veterinary medicine in Mississippi for being able to read a copy of Clifford The Big Red Dog. Matthew instructed me to stop giving him the medicine that his Sister Kelli prescribed 4 days prior and prescribed me some new meds that cost an additional $40. I also asked him why his Sister would make mention of testicular cancer in my dog, yet tell me he was too sensitive to examine him on our previous visit. He gave me some BS excuse while half way grabbing my dogs balls and saying absolutely nothing at all. The $60 for meds I paid for on my previous visit, now worthless. Hopefully these new meds will do the trick. Nope. Not 3 days after my visit with Matthew, my dog began to bleed out of his penis. At this point I was more than freaked out. I attempted to call the Vet to ask either Matthew or Kelli if I should stop giving my dog his meds due to the new issue that just occurred. For 3 days straight, I received nothing but an attitude from the girls in the front office who are about the rudest, most stuck up, unprofessional individuals I have ever encountered. I told them that I would no longer be bringing my dog into their Vet and that I was going to come in and pick up his Xrays to take to his new Vet. I spoke with one of the girls in the office at 11:00 am on a Wednesday and mentioned that I would be over later in the afternoon to pick up his records. After making the 90 minute drive over that day, I got there at 2:00 p.m. only to find a sign on the door to say "Office Closed" I ultimately cut my losses and took my dog to Dr. Symes at Beltline Animal Hospital in Mobile on the suggestion from a friend. He is the complete opposite of the Quacks above and saved my dogs life. He diagnosed him with testicular cancer, enlarged prostate and urinary tract infection, all of which were missed by the 2 Quacks I saw at GCVC. If you love your pet, and I assume you do if you are reading Vet reviews online, then please take them elsewhere, I beg of you. read more

We have used this clinic on several occasions. Everyone, including the vet, loves animals and takes plenty of time to answer questions, explain the procedures, the problems, the treatment and even the after care. The prices are very reasonable but more so is the quality of care for our furbabies. As a matter of fact, I'm taking all 5 of mine for the heartworm check this coming Saturday. I rescued a dog that was in bad shape back 3 years ago, full blooded blue pit that weighed a total of 25lbs. The poor little guy was pitiful, anyway I took him to Dr.Smith and he tested positive for heartworms. Major disaster to deal with. We started treatments immediately he had 3 very hard treatments and the whole total for all three was less than 900.00 bucks total. We are now at 80lbs and healthy as ever. they also kept in contact with us to keep us updated on how he was doing. They treated our whole family as we were their own family. Very compassionate. My daughter drove up from the coast (80 miles one way) to have her cat declawed. She was quoted a price and upon arrival she added a rabies booster and pain meds.....total $140. I heard the discussion with the staff about the charges ($140 total). My daughter tried to pay that day as I was going to pick the cat up the next day but she was told they were to busy and was told to leave her credit card info. I picked up the cat the next day and did not notice they overcharged her $20. She call the office today and they pretty much said "to bad so sad"......my question is why did they have tbe time to write down her cc info but no time to run it??? My suggestion is don't leave your cc information with them because obviously they can run whatever charges they feel like! I did see Dr. Matt that day for my cats yearly checkup and he was very thorough and I did not feel rushed like when I see Doc Smith.... read more
