I will never go back here. I went into this store and found a shirt I liked in a size small, I was sure it would fit me as it was a loose fit. As most tall but in shape woman, I can sometimes wear a small, medium, or even a large on some occasions. It depends on the brand. I bring the shirt to the register and the brunette older woman says "is this for you". She then says this won't fit you, maybe a bigger size in a different color?" I said "I'm good" and left. The lack of class or tact shown at this store is appalling, imagine teen girls being body shamed like that? This is not a business I am interested in supporting. I am an adult and can judge what is appropriate to put on my body. If you read the other comments this isn't the first time and also not the only sketchy thing going on at this establishment. I noticed the beautiful dresses in the store front a few days ago but worried that they would not have clothes in my size (women's US size 14). My boyfriend convinced me to go in and give it a try, though. I went in and was immediately greeted by a friendly store associate who admitted, when I asked for an XL or size 14, that they only have S, M, or L sizes. She even whispered to me that she wasn't sure why they were so limited given the need to clothe people of larger sizes. After trying on 4 dresses, only one fit enough to purchase. While purchasing, the man at the counter who seemed to be the owner asked me about my experience. I let him know that the clothes were beautiful and that I only wished they stocked an XL or any number of extended sizes. He went on to provide unsolicited dietary advice, advising me to go gluten free to drop 20lbs. I could tell that he *thought* that he was saying something kind and helpful. However, I found this to be insensitive and rude given that I am a customer who was asked about my experience in a clothing store. He then claimed to have mistaken me for someone else, insinuating that he was speaking with another customer who came in another day and must have broached this subject. He went on to explain that they buy based on demand because their vendor provides S, M, L and to get XL, they would have to get XL, 1X, 2X. Either way, it was an unfortunate and hurtful experience. I understand that as a small business owner you have limitations and you have the right to sell whatever you want. I just recommend that this man never works in a customer facing role from here on out because it's not my responsibility to consider how vendors oblige their retailers, and if I am not a patron of weight loss products/ counseling, it's impolite to offer it, rather than to accept the constructive criticism *requested* of a customer (a customer who would have left with 4 DRESSES if they had her sizes). read more

I think the owner used to be partners with the People Store. Now they are just competing against each other. You can sometimes find some really good stuff here - very inexpensive. I was on their mailing list for coupons (they always have one 20% off) but it got to be too much mail - so opted out. read more

On a recent window-shopping excursion I got sucked into Oasis by a really fabulous ombre sweater. Despite the fact that I was (trying) to reserve funds for holiday shopping, I ended up stopping in here and purchasing said sweater. Oops! The staff was very friendly and helpful, if not a tad overbearing. Heads up, there are no mirrors in the individual dressing rooms, so you have to come out to the main store to use the large mirror there. Cue 5 girls (staff and patrons alike) swarming me to tell me how cute the sweater was. Cue ME retreating as fast as possible back to the dressing room. There was also a sale section with nothing above $10. Oasis, paradise, $10 sale section...synonyms, really. read more

My favorite little boutique! The prices are amazing, clothes are of a good quality, and you can always find new looks! I am not a shopper at all, but I will only shop at Oasis. It gives you the small boutique feel with large selection but one that is not so overwhelming you do not even know where to look. The girls that work there are very friendly, honest, and willing to help. This is greatly appreciated to someone who struggles with the whole shopping experience and putting clothes together. Some of the brands that they carry fit differently and if you are of a large size the selection is small. Absolutely my number one place to shop! read more

I don't frequent Montclair often, but when I do, I make sure to visit here. It's a nice little boutique where you can find a TON of different, super trendy things for the season. I love the organization, the sales, and the staff is really nice too. Everytime I come here, I find a sweet dress to fall in love with. Last time I got a gorgeous pink one shoulder dress, and the time before that I got a deep blue cutout dress. Only thing I'd recommend is to TRY everything on, as their sales policy sucks and is similar to F21. Other than that, I'm a fan. read more

I've been to this store a few times and always had good experiences here. Today was different. After finding a few shirts I headed to the fitting rooms where I was harassed by the woman working. The store is the type of place where the mirrors are outside of the fitting room, so while I was looking at a dress, she continued to go up to me and ask me "why were my armpits so fat." Never have I had anyone come up to me fat shaming my armpits, let alone an employee at a store I was shopping in. I wish this was a joke, but it was such a bizarre encounter that you just can't make this up. Just before I went to write this review, I saw other reviews about an older brunette woman causing problems here so I'm assuming it is about the same person that I had issues with today. read more

Very cute shop which is a nice change of pace from the other upscale and corporate Montclair retails stores. You can usually find a gem in there and the staff is friendly. Why 3 stars? Removing one star for the TERRIBLE return policy. Removing another star for the awkward dressing room situation. You are forced to try everything on (since the return policy sucks) but there are no mirrors so you have to come out and model in the store in order to look in a mirror. This leads to the salespeople swarming you with compliments. That's just about the worst thing that an introvert has to deal with and so I come here MUCH less often than I normally would. read more

My friends and I love to walk around Montclair, have brunch, and shop. My 3 friends and I went into Oasis to just browse. There was a female brunette lady who was working at the time and as we browsed through the store she followed us and kept on staring at us. As black teenage girls it is unacceptable and I will NEVER go into this store again. My skin color is not a crime. We were just looking around like any normal human would do, but because of the color of our skin we were "suspicious and stealing". Reading the other reviews has also confirmed my case that this boutique needs some serious help in figuring out how to be respectful to customers. Owner is an absolute nut job, don't support this business. I worked there for a few months when I was in college and have also spoken to a few other people who worked there in the past, he's a greedy loser who constantly claimed his employees were stealing from him, belittled employees, and overworked them with no break and benefits. Clothing is poor, cheap quality. Associates are expected to follow customers around until they buy something or the owner has a fit. read more

I came in today and was helped by Jenna, who was helpful and awesome. I told her I needed something to wear over a dress I had purchased prior. They had a similar dress on the shelves and Jenna suggested I try on her suggestion with the black dress they had so I could get an idea of how it looked. The other woman working, a blonde woman, said I shouldn't try it on because it runs small and if I stretch it out they won't be able to sell it. This was obviously very offensive and made me extremely uncomfortable. I ended up purchasing jenna's suggestion because she was so great, but although I come to this store often I'll hesitate to come back. My friend and I were in this establishment yesterday and unfortunately we did not have a pleasant experience. We were upstairs in the "sale" section and the sales person stood there the entire time watching over us. I'm not sure if this was her first time in customer service/sales but it was very unsettling. Also, there was a sign on the rack that stated one price (which at every other reputable store that I've been to means that they honor the price stated) but then we were told that each item was priced differently. As another reviewer stated, this place is a little Forever 21ish but for Montclair.....it will do. I'm all giving my business to smaller stores but after the treatment that I received....I will not be spending my money here. read more

I have heard rumors that the owner of Oasis treats his female employees in a degrading and disrespectful way. I have noticed that women do not seem to stay working for him very long. Today I witnessed first hand him degrading and yelling at his female employees. It was horrible! I can't believe they all just didn't walk out on the spot. He was in their faces, wouldn't let them finish a sentence, scolding them, and completely degrading them. I will NEVER shop here again. I went here with my girlfriend who'd never been (I'm a Montclair resident & have shopped here a few times last year). We went upstairs to see the sale rack & had such an uncomfortable experience. Not only did the young lady who was working that day (June 28) follow us around like we were going to try to actually steal something, the sale rack had a $10 sign on it, yet the clothes were marked incorrectly, and there was no rhyme or reason to it. When asked we were given a weird reply & told that the tags are the correct price, not the loud sign screaming $10.... I won't be back; I was embarrassed that I took a friend here & the experience was bad. Finally stopped into this local boutique and purchased two cardigans. Small and cute boutique, definatly caters to a younger crowd just based on the type of clothes they carry. Not alot of large sizes.... definitely will return to purchase more cardigans in other colors. read more

I went here today with a client (I'm an image consultant) and was surprised when she found as many items as she did. The staff is young and attentive. They were very helpful when it came to running clothes, making suggestions, and finding sizes in the back. The clothing is pretty versatile but mostly geared towards casual wear and fun dresses. I like the variety of colors and silhouettes they offer. I would say the clothes lean more towards the trendy side than classic. I recommend Oasis for anyone who is looking for a local boutique feel with mid-tier prices and isn't afraid of glamour. The aesthetic is not for the plain or conservative crowd. The fitting rooms are small and limited so you might find yourself waiting a bit. But the staff definitely makes an effort to speed up the process and make it as seamless as possible. read more

Unfortunately I had an awful experience at the Montclair Oasis and I will now never go back. I purchased a jacket on January 20. Didn't end up liking it and it was too big at the bottom. It took me 3.5 weeks to go back for an exchange. I didn't expect a problem because it didn't say anything on the receipt that I couldn't. I didn't want cash, I didn't want money back, I just wanted to exchange it for something else. The cashier who took charge when I asked for an exchange (so I assume a manager or in charge of returns) was rude immediately and told me because it was bought in January that was their winter stuff and now in February it is irrelevant (like what?). I tried to explain that was a loyal customer and I just want to exchange one Oasis product for another. She pointed to a sign on her desk and just shook her head saying no no no without even having a normal conversation with me. That was what was the worst part. She basically cut me off and rudely interrupted me with "have a nice day". Doesn't make sense why she had to be so rude. Doesn't make sense why I couldn't exchange. Just really bad customer service which cost them a frequent customer. read more

I'm a big fan. Their prices aren't bad at all and the sales have some really great finds. The styles are bit different than what you find trending at your local mall which is always a plus. The workers are also always helpful, they give you honest opinions which is refreshing. I'm not as big of a fan of the people's store (boutique next door) staff (a bit snobby), so consider me bias. read more

There clothing is awful quality. It does not last long at all. I am so not satisfied with my experience when i went in August. The guy who owns the store was yelling at his employees that it was so uncomfortable to keep shopping, basically everyone walked out. I feel awful for those girls that have to deal with someone like him. crazy. The second time i went there recently this week to return something that had holes in it, the girl said i wasn't allowed. ABOSLUTELY WILL NEVER SHOP HERE. They are RACIST! I do not know the name of the sales associate but I will never spend my money in this place again. And I advice you to not do it either. They racial profiled my friend while she shopped. Being the person she is, she chose to ignore the subtle hints while she shopped around and was eye balled. But when it came time to check out the sales associate miraculously told her that her card was decline and requested another form of payment. Now there was no reason for her card to have been declinED and she was confused why it would be. But again the lady repeated it was declined and requested another form of payment. My friend chose to pay cash and left. Fast forward to later that night she received a call from the bank saying there was fraud activity on her account. COME TO FIND OUT! The transaction had actually gone through and the lady simply chose to not want to accept the form of payment. My friends account was charged and then refunded after the transaction went through. So it was nothing more than the near fact the sales associate did not want to sell to my friend. The sales associate THEN took it upon herself to call into the bank and say that she believed my friend was using a stolen card and that the card she was trying to use was not hers. It is awful that in 2018 a young black women cannot shop in her own town without being accused of being a thief. I will never shop here again. read more

Oasis is like a convenient, small Topshop store... Forever 21/H&M quality clothing with Topshop prices. Definitely a hit or miss type of place but you can quickly browse through everything if you happen to be on Church street. read more

As the other two shoppers stated before me, I had a very poor experience at this store on 7/7 involving getting stared down by the salesgirls while shopping. In the past, I would come into this shop and purchase several items at a time for summer parties. I've bought dresses from here in previous summers - cute, trendy, not great quality, but it's good when you're in a bind. Yesterday I went in with two friends. We all had shopping bags with us and tried on and purchased one item each. When we went to check out the sales room, the sales girl stared at us from the doorway without saying anything, just following us up and waiting and watching us. I understand if you have an issue with theft, but train your staff better - it was so unprofessional and uncomfortable. Why would I spend money in a store where I get treated like that when I could go to a classier boutique with real designer brands and get respected for giving them my business? I never had this issue when I come in with my mother and aunt. Please don't target a customer just because they're in their 20's - unprofessional and tacky. read more
