It is not the worst food around but not the best either. I enjoy the cafeteria more at Olive View Medical Center, but here the food is just eh, okay, bland but edible; the burgers are passable, and the nuggets with enough ketchup are not bad. Fries are good, but obviously prices are not bad. At the end of the day, though, it's just cafeteria food; don't expect gourmet lunch or dinner.

Now includes an omelette bar in the morning for breakfast, an ethnic counter that serves one meal every day of the week from Indian food to Mexican tacos to Mediterranean plates. The grill also has very solid options from the wholesome black bean burger to the chicken quesadilla to the special of the day. Finally, also a pizza counter with personal size pizzas andddd a salad bar/panini bar. Wow! Go to drinks: blue bottle cold brew coffee, the selection of bubblies (white peach ginger), rose bottled cold tea. Go to breakfast: Arroz Caldo. Love the filipino cafeteria lady that serves it too, she so humble, sweet and homely. Now takes hospital credit, and all credit cards, without any minimum charge.

Open since 1956, I have known about this place for quite some time as a Long Beach landmark and…read morefinally got my chance to try it this past weekend. I will say it's one of the best Chicken Fried Steaks that I've ever had. Also one of the best Cinnamon Rolls I've had all year. Inside is quite large and has many different seating options from counter, to booth, to table, to outdoor. We chose to sit at the counter and the only issue we had was that no one came to take our order or bring us water for about 10+ minutes. After that, though, our server was very polite and everything came out fast after that. They don't have a dedicated parking lot, but it was easy for us to find free street parking close by. The menu is very large, and one thing that we noticed was how popular their bakery items were. Their pie and cake slices were flying off the shelves, in slice and whole form. We must've saw over two dozen cake orders happen in just a short time we were there. I started off the meal with the Cinnamon Roll, and it was giant and delicious. I really liked the glaze on it and enjoyed every bite. I wish they would not add raisins, that would be my only request, but still it was very nice. I followed that with a Country Fried Steak and honestly thought it was incredible. It was one of the best that I've had ever, and I think it was due to the quality of the meat and the breading. The steak was juicy and every part about it was just great. The hashbrowns were also extra crispy and the combo was just perfect. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and will say that it's the best Chicken Fried Steak in Los Angeles county.

We opted for the red velvet cake. They have so many options for cakes and cupcakes though. Although they don't decorate cakes, it was beautiful and delicious. The restaurant itself is also nice. I have gone in a couple of times for lunch and breakfast. It can get quite full though, so be prepared for that. Parking can also be a bit rough since there isn't a parking lot. However, I think on certain days, you can park in the lot across the street (pay attention to signage). I'll have to return to eat soon and do a proper review of the restaurant.

The Food The banana nut muffin was absolutely delicious and easily my favorite item of the meal -- moist, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The steak, eggs, and potatoes were okay overall. My only issue was that the steak and potatoes were a bit too salty for my taste. That said, the pieces of steak that weren't overly salty were actually really good and flavorful, so it wasn't a total miss. Atmosphere & Service This is a small restaurant with amazing decor and a great vibe. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. Customer service was excellent, and the owner was super cool and friendly, which really added to the experience. Overall Experience Good food, great service, and a nice atmosphere. With a little less salt on some of the dishes, this place would be even better. I'd definitely come back and try more items.

Oh Polly. Let's get into the good & bad…read more It was busy the Friday afternoon I had gone. I got sat right away regardless. I love the home diner feel, it's cute and cozy inside. I ordered the breakfast burrito ... ..... Where's the flavor ?!!! It was extremely bland. Very depressing. I only liked the quality of the tortilla. No side salsa or anything with it. I had fruit as a side. The blueberry muffin with salted butter was absolutely delicious though!! I don't normally get a blueberry muffin but this one was super good!! Sweet but not too sweet. After paying I had asked last minute for a chocolate chip cookie & I'm assuming the manager gave it on the house. I thought that was super kind. The cookie was pretty good. I loved the crunch & chewiness to it. It was one of the better chocolate chip cookies I had. Service was on point, our waiter was ON IT. I was impressed. There's some parking on the side of the restaurant, otherwise there's also street parking.

The food isn't…read morebad, but much of it tastes generic and lacks the freshness or character that makes a meal memorable. One unfortunate reality of modern casual dining is that many restaurants rely heavily on commercially prepared, "heat-and-serve" ingredients. While I can't say exactly how every dish at Polly's is made, some savory items occasionally gave me the impression of being reheated or sourced from pre-made commercial products rather than cooked from scratch. As for the bakery, Polly's says that some of its desserts are baked in-house, and I have no reason to doubt that. However, they still tasted somewhat mass-produced to me. My biggest criticism is the sweetness. Pies like the Apple Pie and Banberry (banana and strawberry) Pie leaned heavily toward sweetness without enough acidity, spice, or other contrasting flavors to create a more balanced, complex dessert. Many of the cream pies also seemed overloaded with whipped cream, which further masked the filling. The standout items, in my opinion, are the muffins and biscuits. They tasted noticeably fresher than the other baked goods and had a pleasant texture and flavor. Served warm with butter, they're easily the highlight of the meal. Overall, Polly's Pies is a perfectly acceptable diner if you're looking for a casual meal, but it isn't a place I'd seek out for its savory dishes. The pies are decent, though sweeter than I prefer, while the muffins and biscuits are the bakery items I'd happily order again.
