Why have I not had a burger from this place sooner?? One of the very best burgers I have had in CT. I love a thick patty and this burger is one of the thickest I have found in a restaurant. The meat is seasoned well and they cooked my burger to perfection (medium rare). I love the onion jam so much! Forgot how I heard about this place but the online menu and reviews seemed to warrant a visit. Went one night with some friends and the joint was empty. it's basically an upscale hole-in-the-wall, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but the first trouble started when the paper menu arrived. It appeared to have less selection than what they displayed online and they were out of a few a things already as well even though they barely opened and it was empty, as I mentioned. We ordered some appetizers which eventually came and they were fine but nothing great for the prices and the meals were more of the same. I was especially unsatisfied with the fish and chips. For 22 bucks, I expect more than one tiny piece of fish that resembled a mcds filet o fish patty and no Cole slaw to boot. All in all, an underwhelming experience and we won't be rushing back there anytime soon (ever). read more

Food was good for the most part. Only downsides were they were out of something at 5:30PM on a Saturday and the cornbread was a bit dry. Our drinks were the best part and of course I forgot to get a picture of those haha. We had drinks that had vanilla vodka, lime, and soda. Was really refreshing. Stopped in for lunch and I am so glad I did so. When we got in there was no one there but us at the time. The restaurant has a small bar area with several high top chairs and counters one can sit at. In addition they have two separate areas for diners to eat at. For lunch I had the Bronco burger with a side order of crispy potatoes served with a bacon jam. My girlfriend had the duck breast cooked at a perfect medium temperature served over a purée of butternut squash. The burger was cooked perfectly with bacon, cheese. The potatoes were excellent, my burger did not come with fries but the potatoes were so good. The bacon jam was delicious. They were crispy and tasty. The duck breast was really good according to my gf, the butternut squash purée was the perfect match. Overall we really enjoyed our meal and will definitely visit again. read more

Not bad, but not impressed. Ambiance is super cute and cozy, but the seating is oddly spaced out. The booths are a bit cramped - would be tough to fit more than 2 people. And the bar seating and table seating have no chair backs. The food was good, not great, and definitely overpriced for the portions. Cornbread was tasty but quite dry... Brussels sprouts were the best thing we had - crispy and cooked well, and quite tasty with the pumpkin seeds! The shrimp and grits were okay. Shrimp was cooked well and the gravy was quite good, but the grits were a bit blah and very clumpy (almost felt more like a polenta). Portion was small when you compare it to the $22 price tag. The banh mi was probably the most disappointing... the short ribs were delish, but the sandwich was served on a hamburger bun - what banh mi is NOT served on a baguette?! The sauce was super mayo-y and there was too much of it. And for $16 it came with nothing else - no fries, no salad, literally just the sandwich. Not a bad experience per se... but not a place I'll be itching to try again anytime soon. read more

This restaurant moved Downtown some time ago. I assumed it would be similar in quality and offerings as what they had at their previous location in Stratford. We went on Wednesday for trivia and although we were disappointed it was "the first time They haven't had trivia in months" according to our server, it was not a deal breaker. We were looking forward to a good meal and being together. The menu didn't excite any of us. Two of us ordered the short rib sandwich. My opinion--it was okay. The insides were tasty but the bun was stale. My friend who is gluten free ordered a salad (arugula, cranberries, and pistachios) and asked if she could get chicken in it. We were told they "don't do that here, all their meats are proportioned for sandwiches." We all left hungry or unsatisfied. I would not go back unless a friend insisted. A small, unique restaurant. Highly recommended for 'date nights'. It's very intimate and non-corporate. Of note are its Teacher friendly happy hour specials, it's 'hidden side room' where they host parties and Chef demonstrations (and excellent for Bachelor/Bachelorette parties/crawls). I don't know how this restaurant wasn't busier on a Saturday night! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and the cocktails were perfect. Menu was a little confusing because it's all together instead of separated by apps and entrees, but everything is shareable so it's more of a tapas restaurant which was perfect for us. Have been wanting to try this place and finally got a chance. It was worth the wait. My wife and I had drinks and two rounds of tapas and were impressed with the service and the quality of the food. The atmosphere was casual with pop music playing in the background. Lively crowd but laid back. I had a rye drink called an old pal. It was excellent. My wife had a nice Chardonnay. We had the scallops, flank steak, lobster, short rib, hamachi, asparagus, and carrot tapas. All were unique and excellent. We were stuffed and will have to come back for more. 3/2. 2nd time here, food and service as good or better than the last time. It's become a favorite now!!! We ordered Togo and ended up at this restaurant instead of their Togo restaurant, Oar and Oak Birdhouse which includes many of the specialties offered here. We got the Eddie Vedder and Lone Star chicken sandwiches, the Fried chicken tacos, crispy potatoes and cornbread. Everything provided a hearty serving of bacon for all the bacon lovers out there. Thank you to the staff who kept our food warm after we called while we traveled to the correct location. We hope to return for dine in at some point in the future and to try more things on the menu. read more

Stopped by here during the first nite of our staycation from NYC. Place is located in a strip mall - not usually a great sign, but seems like how they roll in this part of the world. They sat us inside, as their outdoor seating wasn't much to look at. Staff very attentive and kind. Food very fresh and well prepared. We had the Caesar Salad, Meatballs, Flank Steak and Crispy Potatoes - all really high quality. Drank a few local Tribus beers - the IPA and a Sour - both strong and tasty. Oar & Oak closed its doors in Milford which was sad news as it was a good place for a casual night with solid chicken sandwiches. I got a gift card for Christmas so decided to check out the Stratford location. The decor and ambiance was very similar to Milford. It was pretty crowded for a Friday at 5:30 so I thought I was in for a real treat. My wife and I decided to order a bunch of dishes and split them. Some of the menu items were same as Milford and some were different. We ordered the brussels sprouts, cornbread, strawberry and Burrata arugula salad, the classic fried chicken sandwich, the empanadas and the truffle potato croquettes. The Brussels are a must order...the sprouts are crispy and the maple vinaigrette gives a good sweet balance to the saltiness. The chicken sandwich was also a good call although they went too heavy on the ranch. The empanadas were just okay; they had some flavor but didn't wow me. The truffle croquettes I really wanted to love because I've been on a truffle bender lately but these missed the mark for me personally. They were cooked perfectly but the consistency in the middle was to viscous for my liking. Almost felt like I was biting into potato soup in the center. Items I would avoid: the cornbread and the strawberry arugula burrata salad. The cornbread was underwhelming in the flavor department (bland!). It also didn't have a cornbread type texture, it was more cake like than traditional cornbread. The strawberries, arugula, burrata and prosciutto on toast was good don't get me wrong but I can't recommend a +$10 dish that advertises strawberry then only give you one strawberry cut up in 4 slices. All in all this joint was just alright. Food isn't terrible but isn't A+ either. Now that Milford location is closed, I think I won't be making the trip to Stratford as Oar & Oak didn't wow me. read more

After checking yelp for a place to eat I couldnt deny this place since it has 4.5 stars. I was little surprised that it was located in a strip mall but you can't judge a book by its cover. The place is good lunch spot with a small bar area and some tables as well. It isnt a massive place but you can sit comfortably here. On the menu they have tapas options which are small plates as well as salads and other lunch items. I loved the concept. I always thought of tapas as only spanish type food but this had all types of options. We ordered a few small plates and a couple salads. The kale salad was delicious with a lot of different flavors going on. We also ordered a side of grilled chicken which was a healthy sized portion. As for tapas we ordered the beets, roasted cauliflower, and crispy potatoes. Everything for the most part was spot on with just the right amount of seasoning and item was cooked right. My favorite was the beets because they were awesome. The one critique would be that the crispy potatoes were a little greasy but that is almost expected with that dish. We left stuffed and actually didn't even finish a few items. It was also reasonably priced for this type of quality. It checked off all the boxes for a top food spot. All in all, everything was delicious and the service was solid too. Our servers Drew and Brian were attentive which is always a plus. The place gets a little noisy and I HATE the chairs (high top hard metal chairs that are too small) they were so bad some people in my party had to stand up multiple times and one even left early! But! The food was good, we had a few apps/tapas all were yummy and I had the flank steak for dinner (pretty good)To name off some of the apps we had were the shrimp and grits which were cheesy and amazing! Mushrooms were yummy. Beets were tasty. Sweet potatoes were good, nothing special. Salad with gorgonzola cheese and pecans was yummy. The garlic wings were ok but also nothing special. The magic bar was so freaking good for desert, it was warm and I thought it came with ice cream but it just had some whipped cream on it. First time here and they are throwing strikes, the food was absolutely delicious. We tried a little bit of everything: cornbread to start, cauliflower tacos and fried chicken sandwich, and a magic bar to finish. I got the food to go and it was ready on time and the containers were great so that the food didn't move around in transit. Looking forward to a return trip with a bunch of new items even though the items were got were so good. I read the previous reviews and I agree the volume is a little loud and the menu a little light. I didn't find either of these concerns to be a big deal. I had a great 1 person lunch here. The crispy potatoes are FANTASTIC. They would have been a whole meal by themselves instead of just a side with my fried chicken sandwich. The chicken breast was big and tender and cooked perfectly. The flavors were great but I would dock half a star if we could for too much of the sauce and one of the jalapeños being kind of Steny and unfit for consumption. Since I can't dock a half star and everything else was perfect They get a perfect 5. read more

On a dreary winter night we recently stopped for dinner. Somehow having the image of the former diner in mind, we were taken back by the decor and exuberant welcome from the bartender. The low rating is because they had a very limited wine selection and they included a "rock charge" and "large glass" fee for our mixed drinks. Food is excellent. For a special Sunday event catered to Catalonian cuisine, this place will forever live rent free in my mind. The flan and sherry pairing was by far the best. Worth the wait! For bottles under $20, I'd go back every weekend if I lived closer than greenwich. Steak, patatas bravas, salad with French dressing was tied for second with the cheese and jamon course. First off....Kyle the manager / waiter was welcoming and took great care of us. He recommended the Brussels Sprouts but made a point to tell us everything is fantastic. He wasn't wrong! Brussel sprouts, wings, crispy potatoes and cornbread were all great! We shared the shrimp and grits, and that was amazing too! Everything was packed with flavor and prices were reasonable. We will absolutely be back! We've only been out to a few other restaurants the last few months due to Covid. This by far was our most enjoyable meal. read more

All in all, I was not blown away by the food. The service was good; my son and i were seated right away. We didn't have to wait long for them to take our order and the waitress checked on us quite frequently. But the food was nothing to write home about. We ordered some kind of potato sticks for an appetizer. For 12 bucks, I expected something more than what we received. 5 sticks which obviously came out of a box which is a huge turn off. You would expect something better than that. The burgers were definitely on the small side. To be fair, it was fairly tasty but the onion rings were a bit on the burnt side. So for the side, 2 burgers and one soda, the bill was over 50 bucks. Needless to say, I don't feel I got a good value for the $$. read more
