Food was delicious! My goodness! We were running late to a race in the Canal Fulton area and were both starving. I hopped on Yelp, saw Oak Park Tavern was open, and said, "Hey, let's give it a try." Thank goodness we did! We were greeted warmly by both the staff and customers who were enjoying a late-night ballgame. We arrived well after the dinner rush--easily four hours later--and only about 50 minutes before closing. Despite that, the atmosphere was welcoming, the service was outstanding, and we never felt rushed. The walls were adorned with hand-drawn battlefield crosses and messages honoring the fallen and supporting our service members. As someone who deeply appreciates that commitment, it resonated with me. I struck up a conversation with the bartender and learned that his son is a Marine. His pride in supporting veterans and active-duty service members was evident and appreciated. Sarah, our waitress, was friendly, kind, and attentive despite the late hour. She smiled, laughed with us, and made us feel right at home. Now, the food! The lobster dish was fantastic--perfectly seasoned and served with a delicious sauce. The seafood entrée I ordered was outstanding, and the wedge salad was absolutely top-tier. I love a good wedge salad, and this one exceeded expectations. My wife, Juliann, loved her New York Strip, which was tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The cocktails were excellent as well. Thank you all for an amazing visit. We were really hoping this would become one of our favorite local restaurants since it's so close to our cabin, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing. Although we had reservations, we waited about 10 minutes in a very cramped entryway that also served as the bar area and a pass-through for the kitchen. Staff carrying large trays constantly had to squeeze past waiting customers, making the entrance feel crowded and awkward. The first thing we noticed was a strong fishy odor that lingered while we waited. We were eventually seated on the newer outdoor deck, which was pleasant enough, but it felt very plain with almost no décor or atmosphere. The overall vibe of the restaurant was more functional than welcoming. Our server was in training and accompanied by another server throughout the meal. She did her best, but the service overall lacked warmth, and there was a long wait for our food despite many empty tables. The biggest disappointment was my steak. While the portion size was fine, it was so full of gristle that I left nearly a third of it untouched because it simply wasn't edible. My husband's fish tasted good, but many of the thinner pieces were overcooked and dry. When I mentioned the problem with my steak, the response was simply, "Is there anything we can do for you?" followed by an awkward silence. No apology, no offer to replace it, and no acknowledgment that such a poor cut of meat shouldn't have been served. Because this restaurant is in a fairly remote area with few nearby dining options, we had really hoped for a better experience. My wife and I stopped in while we were in the Mansfield area taking mom in a good friend somewhere different for dinner. Though the table and chairs and other ambience, I'm not changed, we thought that this meal was particularly better than others that we've had in the past. We opened with adult beverages. I must say it was the best Manhattan I've ever had there at Oak Park Tavern! Nobody was complaining about their beverages either. After ordering our adult beverages, we ordered their combination appetizer. It is a collection of fried appetizer items, consisting of mushrooms, mozzarella, sauerkraut balls, pickles, and onion rings. I ordered their sirloin steak with blue cheese on top with their vegetable medley and a side of sautéed mushrooms. Mom ordered a fish that was stuffed with crab, our friend ordered a steak and shrimp, while my wife went for their chicken tenders. After a reasonable amount of time, all of our dishes came out. I must say I was fairly impressed with their steak, and particularly the vegetable medley that came with it. Our salads were great as well. I do enjoy the spinach salad with one bacon dressing. AMAZING FOOD! It was my first visit and I wasn't sure what to expect but OMG it was pleasantly surprised!! It's in the middle of no where and I was not so sure pulling up. When entering I noticed it was giving me really small. I was greeted with a smile and seated right away. I was told this doesn't always happen so make a reservation in the future. Anyway, the ambiance as really nice and welcoming. I immediately began to feel relaxed. I ordered the perch with green beans and sweet potato fries. The fish was fresh and delicious. The batter was light allowing you to experience the freshness of the fish. Let me say that I am from now on spoiled with the seasoned butter the comes with the sweet potato fries! I was a little bit of heaven in a a cup. Our server was top notch and very knowledgeable answering all of our questions. She was so polite even offered to take a picture of my sister and I. My wife and I went here for our 30th anniversary as someplace new to try. The service speed and server were good. I ordered the flaming steak kabob special and my wife ordered the steak salad. They both looked good and were cooked correctly. Unfortunately, both steaks were without flavor and my wife reported that the dressing on her salad was also flavorless and her steak had a lot of gristle. For the price, kind of disappointing. WOW!! I can not think of a time where as a customer I have been treated so badly!!!!!! Our group of 4 was treated like crap the whole time we were there!! They have a bar but don't bother to sit there while you're waiting for your table because you will be told " IM MAKING DRINKS FOR MY TABLE YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT" and wait we did. 6:45 reservations seated at 7:45 sat at the bar for 45 mins without being served 1 drink!! But then 2 guys walk in sit down 5 mins later they have a coffee & a beer. Wife says WOW! we have been here 45 mins they will not serve us, he said I'm part owner and that's the other owners girlfriend.Ok, still no drinks. Finally seated in the enclosed back patio that's cold, with no door handles to get in or out!! Wait 15 more minutes for the server to come around, when she does my wife ordered her drink and then says I'm also ready to order food. The server really nasty says let's get the drinks first!! then the food. We should have left but we drove an hour because we wanted to try something different!! NEVER AGAIN!! Just stupid, crazy high prices. Laughable. The girl was nice upfront, but there's no way I would spend is insane prices on their food.

to start, we had reservations on Saturday night and although there were many open tables we had to wait past our reservation time. waitress took our order for drinks as we decided on food. the guys went with the perch dinners and us girls had rib eye steaks. all ordered Cole slaw as a side. Failed to bring out the fourth dish of coleslaw! the waitress brought out food out and gave the wrong steaks, no big deal to switch plates. asked for a refill on my drink, never got it. waitress never returned to ask how food was. both steaks were tough and at the price of $33 each, they should have melted in our mouth!! the perch dinners were enjoyed which was the only plus. when request for a manger, turned out to be our waitress and her attitude was not very pleasant but more on the rude side. thankfully we had gift cards to use. my suggestion, don't go for the steaks!! two steaks, both tough to chew!! go for the perch but skip the coleslaw as it was dry as a bone! I finally made it here a couple of months ago. I sat at the bar and I enjoyed the atmosphere. There were several people sitting at the bar which I was pretty sure were regulars bc they knew the Bartender by name. I ordered a salad, French onion soup, and a white Russian. I wish I had looked at their specials board bc someone at the bar ordered a Kentucky hot brown which I have always wanted to try and looked amazing!! And I ate the soup there and took the salad and the clam chowder I found out they had to go. So there's good and bad with the food. The French onion soup, which was is their specialty btw was just barely ok. The soup itself was alright but I've had better. What really got me though was sitting at the bar I could see into the kitchen and I watched the Bartender add cheese and put it in the microwave. Are u kidding me?!! French onion soup is your specialty and you're going to microwave the cheese?!! The best part is the delicious BROILED melty cheese on top. I would not order this again. The chef salad had was good but the slivers of cheese were like American cheese which I didn't care for at all. But it was the high point of the entire visit because of the blue cheese dressing. This is what they should be known for. Most people either love or hate blue cheese and obviously I'm a lover. This was literally the best I've ever had. I would come back just for that. Nice place tucked out in the middle in no-where. They have a very large patio area and full bar so in the warmer months it would be nice to sip some drinks and enjoy the nature that surrounds the restaurant. Upon entering, you immediately note the decor is a bit dated and the clientele is of the elderly persuasion for the most part, but there were some families as well. It's not a large restaurant, but it's cozy. The menu is smaller, and they offer a variety of items from steaks, fried fish, and salads. I ordered the lake perch and also braved some sauerkraut balls. The sauerkraut balls were freaking amazing! I don't even like sauerkraut and this was very yummy - do try them! The fish was alright, too greasy for my taste. The dinners also come with the option of a salad or tomato juice??? Huh?! I've never in my life heard of such an option. I asked around after the fact and one of my friends claims this is an old southern tradition. Weirdest thing ever - I'm not southern so I opted for a nice side salad. The trio of 60+ old ladies next to me really hit up that tomato juice option, guess it's not too crazy. Overall, I wasn't super impressed with Oak Park, but I might go back for a nice steak or something sometime and try out the patio. I recommend giving it a try if you want a nice bug sit down meal. I love a great, old school dive and Oak Park Tavern delivered. Vinyl tablecloths that still somehow don't leave you thinking you're at Grandma's house. The French onion soup was swimming with garlicky bread and flavorful onions. A lunch special of pork medallions didn't disappoint either...the kraut salad was amazing. Best of all was the cinnamon ice cream with tuile. So pretty, and delicious too. Our service also rocked. Didn't matter to us we were not in a hurry. 30 minutes went by and we were talking to people standing in line out the door having a good time. Very disappointed tonight we had reservations for my grandmothers 89th birthday as a suprise to her as she has always loved the perch dinner. When reservations were made we were not asked whether we would be sitting inside or outside I suppose we should NOT have assumed we would be inside, when we arrived we were told it would be outside after they were deciding where to seat us. Reservations were made for party of 7 so our seats should have already been ready when we arrived to begin with. We have an 89 year old who has health issues just got out of the hospital 2 weeks ago and could not sit outside for dinner due to the heat. We were met with a very rude man at the hostess station who said that's all we have and nothing he could do. We were very frustrated as to why we were not even asked if putting tables together was an option inside and were told sorry that's all we have nothing could be done. That should be a question when making reservations inside or outside! We have made reservations before always have sat inside. The man behind hostess stand became even ruder which escalated the situation and we left. Very disappointed in this establishment as our family has been coming there for decades and will no longer return ever again. Customer service when charging the price for meals they do should be a given and there should have been help in figuring out a solution instead of just oh well too bad. No asking if we'd like to speak to a Manager nothing..... pretty sad this is how this high priced restaurant is ran. We were apprehensive about stopping here on our way from Lancaster to Cleveland since it only received three and a half stars. We are very glad we took the chance. My husband ordered a cup of French Onion soup and told me it was very good. This is from a guy that orders French onion soup everywhere. He also got the perch basket and said the fish was very good, but he wished there was one more piece. I ordered the candies walnut chicken salad with their sweet and sour dressing. The salad was very good, but the dressing was incredibly good. All their dressings are homemade. We both got the Oak Park margarita. It was a very tasty margarita and was definitely not light on the tequila. We stopped in for lunch. The bartender was also the waitress for the whole restaurant. We went here the other day looking for a new place to get a great steak. Sadly, I don't think this is the place. My steak was passable but by no means great. However, the salads, rolls, and appetizers were very good and many of the other plates I saw come out (not steak) also looked very good. I ordered spinach salad, French onion soup, prime rib and veggies. The spinach salad was served with a mushroom slice cut into quarters and store-bought sweet and sour dressing, the French onion soup looked like it had been put in the microwave to melt the cheese and the bread in the soup could have been a bun. The prime rib was served on a plate floating in Au jus, the veggies were over cooked to the point the were disintegrating. I was also offended by the vinyl table cloths, are we in grade school?
