HOLY CANNOLI!!! If I could give this restaurant more stars I would. Being raised in an Italian household, the bar is set pretty high and I don't often give 5 stars, but WOW! Being from out of town, we were looking for an Italian restaurant for dinner. We had no clue about what we were going to experience. Again WOW!! Our server, Mika, was attentive and seemed genuinely concerned with our experience. EVERYTHING we ordered, from drinks, appetizer, main entree to dessert was absolutely delicious. And I mean SERIOUSLY delicious! Not only can I recommend this restaurant, which you can guess by now I am, but it's on our list of "must revisit" for future visits. The mushroom ciabatta was delicious. The 3 others I dined with got salads. They enjoyed them. However one of them added boiled shrimp to his salad ($6) and got 3 shrimp! That's $2 a shrimp!!! The place is small, so make sure to get there early if you have a larger group. We got there and they wanted to seat up outside. Now grantid there is a cover over the from porch area, but there was a monsoon coming and there was no doubt we would get wet. We sat outside, ordered drinks. We could not hear a word of what the waitress was saying bc it is so loud from all the Harahan trucks that zoom down the huighway. (the porch is open and sits on the side facing Jeff Hwy. Then the wind came and we told the waitress this was a horrible idea by the hostess to seat us out here and waited for a table inside. We were seated quickly and had a new overly attentive waitress. That didn't bother me one bit, it's better than a waitress that forgets about you. The best thing was the veal, although not very large. The homemade pasta was not as good as i wanted it to be. Spaghetti comes with the veal and it was very bland. I had the shrimp fettuccini which was very rich and good but not the best sauce I've ever had. The unlimited bread was delicious of course and the pinenut ice cream was very yummy. Overall of it's ok. read more

I really loved this place. The food was great and the atmosphere excellent for conversation. The parking is ample and easy to access. I had the fettuccine one visit and the fish on another. Both were excellent. I was there both for dinner and lunch. Food is is a 5 but dessert was lacking. Drinks are average. I will be back to try more menu items. Glad to have a quality restaurant in harrahan as alternative to uptown or the quarter. read more

Great food in an unassuming location. I've tried Oak Oven couple of times and while service right after they opened was a little spotty they seem to have worked out the kinks. The food is great and I suffer menu paralysis every time I go in since the pizzas, handmade pasta, and sandwiches all command attention. However the pizza, with its super thin crust, generally gets the nod. It is a pretty restaurant - amazingly a new incarnation of an old Popeye's. However the dining room is small and it is popular so eating at non-standard times can be a real advantage. read more

We've been going to Oak Oven regularly since it opened. Its success is also its failure. Patio tables and benches (quite uncomfortable) are now jammed inside the restaurant, which while being able to serve more customers, causes bottlenecks for servers and diners trying to get to their tables. The large number of 'to go' orders definitely impacts dine-in service. Oak Oven is now consistently understaffed, and the servers are frazzled and look about to cry. The food is still very good--but after an hour and 40 minute wait to get it (and we had a reservation!), it's not worth it. Part of the problem is management, who simply kept saying "it will be out soon" over and over, not only to our table but to others, so our order was not lost--many orders got behind because they're trying to do too much with too little. There was confusion about what dishes went to what table, they were carrying tables to the other side, which in a jammed place necessitated some created table seating. The problem is also the owners. Hire more service staff, add some busboys, get dedicated staff for take out (and make a separate take out counter somewhere else, not the middle of the restaurant), expand the restaurant, get more tables and chairs for inside, and Oak Over will be again worth going to. But until then, AVOID OAK OVEN!!! read more

On my first visit to Oak Oven it was hard for me to decide what I wanted to get bc everything sounded delicious. Many of my friends had already dined there & raved about everything they got. After finally making a decision the food started to come out & to say the least I was not disappointed at all!! We got the fruti di golfo as our appetizer & it was one of the most amazing things I have ever eaten! We split a shrimp & crabmeat pizza & the chicken parmigiano. The flavors of the pizza were so unique & tasty! The chicken was so fresh & the tomato sauce was so good! All the ingredients used were fresh & some you can even see growing on property. Of course we couldn't leave without trying the gelato. The pine-nut caramel is a must! I can't wait for my next visit! Unfortunately I live out of town but this will for sure be my first stop next time I am in the area! read more

We went for a dinner date and really enjoyed our experience. My husband and I split a delicious caesar salad with some of their complimentary bread. Both fantastic. We couldn't settle on 2 items so we went with 3. We ordered a small lasagna, a pollo pizza and a chicken marsala. We absolutely loved the pollo pizza. I enjoyed the chicken marsala. And we both felt the lasagna was so-so. It might be that we aren't eating much red meat these days but we wouldn't order it again. My biggest complaint is the seating. The place is pretty small. We had to sit outside on the patio and it was fairly humid. We joked that they should have a NASCAR background sound to accompany the sounds of cars whizzing down Jefferson Highway. When we go back, we'll definitely make reservations for indoor seating or wait next time. I was craving a Pollo pizza and my mom just so happened to call and ask if I wanted to go get a bite to eat. I called and made a reservation for 2 because it's usually packed and didn't want to take the chance of having to wait. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and were brought to our table right away. When we sat down our server asked us what we would like to drink and told us about their specials for the evening. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and a spinach salad to start! The spinach salad was amazing from the dressing, apples, and fresh, crisp spinach.( not withered) we ordered the Pollo pizza for our entree and it never fails....amazing!! Food was good but the service was horrible. They stated several times that a group of 7 was an inconvenience on a Friday at lunch because they only have two servers. Don't expect to get serve too soon at the Oak Oven unless you are prepared to wait an extended period of time (2 hours) or make a reservation a week in advance. (Should advertise reservations only!) The food is good, but definitely not worth waiting for a long period of time. I was turned away or told to wait two hours to be seated when the restaurant had five open tables. I was told they were waiting on the reservations to show as the explanation. Good luck! They should be making arrangements quickly to accommodate the demand if they want to be successful. I will not be back after being told to wait or call a week in advance. Too many other great restaurants to choose from in the city!! It is not worth the wait. read more

Recently we were greeted at the door with a smile. I had the Ravioli and my friend had the Lasagne. The Ravioli was stuffed with crabmeat and the sauce was perfect. We had the pumpkin & crab soup which I have never heard of, but the combo was very good. I'd order that again. Then the Lasagne was excellent like my Scillian mom would make.
