We were first introduced to Oak Mill Bakery in Niles back in 2017 when my husband and I were planning our wedding. We are rarely in the northern suburbs these days but we happened to be in Arlington Heights and I was ecstatic when I realized this location was next door to the restaurant that we were having lunch at. And then we even returned the following week because we had to run an errand in the area. So we've stopped by Oak Mill Bakery twice within eight days and we can vouch for their consistency. Here's what we tried: 1) Easter egg cake with vanilla cake and buttercream* 2) Butter cookie with chocolate and crushed pistachio* 3) Horn cookies with powdered sugar 4) Horn cookies dipped in milk and white chocolate 5) Butter cookie with caramel and pecan 6) Sugar cookies 7) Chocolate mousse cake* 8) Dark and white chocolate mousse cake* 9) Mocha cake slice* 10) Coffee mousse cake* 11) Raspberry yellow cake slice* 12) Mango mousse cake* 13) Mini red velvet cupcake with Easter decoration* 14) Cheese twist 15) Raisin custard croissant We tried a decent variety without breaking the bank. Called on a Monday to see if they have birthday cakes available and I asked for strawberry and banana with custard and they said they had it and put it on hold. I arrived and I told them I had a cake on hold but I don't think she understood me since they speak different language. They have many pastries and cookies and the lady was not in the mood for me to ask about what she recommend and what was the top seller or maybe she didn't understand me. The attitude at this location is poor because you can tell when you walk in the look at you up and down. I got my cake and the lady said you want me to write something on it and I said yes and it's an extra cost for happy birthday to get written on cake. The cake was okay it needed to be filled with more custard and banana pieces. The Cake was alright not special and it cost close to $70 it was to dry even with the strawberries and a tiny layer of custard. read more

Hit or miss depending on what you pick from the case, which I've experienced at other locations too. I would say about half the items (last time I got 6 treats ranging from cupcakes to mini tarts to cake slices and a kolacky) I paid for were actually fresh. The other items were clearly not made that day and had been sitting sadly in the case for a while. On the last few occasions, whatever flavor of cake slice I chose was definitely staling, so I definitely don't recommend buying cake by the slice. No wonder all sales are final. I do support buying custom order or pre-order cakes here though! Really fresh cake when made especially for you. Easy parking in the strip mall lot too. read more

This bakery has been our family's choice for cakes and even for the occasional sweet tooth for the last 35 years, and it stops now. I really didn't care for the rudeness this place displayed over the years because as long as my desserts tasted great, I didn't mind. What changed my mind and my loyalty was that the desserts aren't the same anymore. They taste like cheap products. Back in the day, you can taste the rich flavor or European chocolate, or the creme tasted fresh and deliciously delicate butter. Now it's garbage, and the assortment is a disappointment. I wish the previous owners never sold their business. Under the new ownership, there is a lot of lack of. Lack of love for pastries, desire, and passion. Definitely not recommend! Customer Service is horrible, never see manager can talk like that for customers. It used to be great place but not anymore. We order birthday cake and it was NOT fresh at all. We always had pear cake , sometimes was better, sometimes not but never has stinky lady fingers and old sponge cake. We packaged cake, call ahead with complain because it was right before 4th of July. We returned cake to store at Tuesday after holidays and they took it from us and tell us they need to sent it to place where they doing it and baker need to taste it and decided about refund. They didn't call, I spoke with rude, ridiculous manager named Daniele and she refused our money back. Oak Mill Bakery has a number of beautiful wedding cakes on display at their bakery in Arlington Heights, and we started working with Bill there. The first step was to arrange a tasting. We had two of our close friends join us for a cake tasting. For an hour, we leafed through books of cake designs, and tasted various cakes and frostings. At the end we had decided on our cake design, and flavors. It was a very enjoyable experience. We ordered the cake, and provided our own topper before the wedding. The cake was absolutely beautiful, and tasted delicious. I receive numerous compliments from guests about the cake. It looked, and tasted wonderful. I went there to order a cake for a sweet 16 so I asked one of the ladies if she can help she says okay and walks away and helps another customer. I asked the other lady with blonde hair and black glasses if I can place the order. I told her I want a 16 made out and all that she told me was that they can only make it for 60 people and she walks away. I didn't even tell her for how many people I was having or any details. The funny thing is the man that was in line after me was getting helped by both of these ladies and laughing and chatting in Polish. This place doesn't even deserve one start just because of how rude the people that work there are. My husband and I went with Oak Mill for our wedding cake, and we were quite pleased! We chose alternating layers of devil's ganache and lemon/vanilla with fresh strawberry filling, and we will be going back for a little devil's ganache cake on our 1 year anniversary because we enjoyed it so much. First of all the quality of pastries and cookies in this bakery is good. I would give 5 stars for the quality of food and taste. But customer service would be less than 1 if not 0. The two ladies at the store are extremely rude, I don't know for what reason. Made me and my family very uncomfortable while placing a take out order. Extremely unpleasant experience. Paczki disappointment : ( The filling was good. However, the donuts were not light fluffy golden orbs. They were much more like a dinner roll. Kevin and I have visited good from Oak Mill bakery before so there was no question who we'd go to for our wedding cake. They were busy since it was wedding season but the staff was great going over the menu with us when they had various cake testings. After going over our theme, they were great with offering suggestions within our theme and budget. We ended up getting a 3-tier cake with a cake topper I purchased from Etsy; with a heavy cake topper, they supported it great for the hours the cake has to look beautiful in the reception hall. As far as day-of logistics, they were professional with making sure our vendor received it in time and with no issues. read more

The cakes are delicious. The service is terrible. The other reviews are dead-on! The counter help act so annoyed by your call or for stopping by. They are not happy to help. I have been in the Rand Road location several times with different people over the years. It makes me think they will take the same attitude with my cake and I'm just not up to giving money to people who don't take pride in customer service. I am usually so happy to walk in there and look over the choices but it is so deflating to have to deal with the uninspiring attitudes and I have often walked out feeling unappreciated. I had a custom cake made for my mother. It was a model of the home she grew up in. The home was *perfect*. I had pretty high expectations going in and they were exceeded. My mother knew exactly what it was out of the box and she was surprised and thrilled, which is what I was going for! The cake itself was absolutely delicious. I live in the DC area where European bakeries are hard to come by so I really appreciate the craftsmanship and balance of flavors and textures Oak Mill achieves. I think some of the lower rating here can be attributed to people whose palates have been shredded with grocery store sugar bombs. You won't get that here. Thank goodness ;-) read more

There cakes have always been moist, delicious, and stuffed with cream and fruits etc. The workers there always attentive & explained everything thoroughly when placing an order and the variety of cakes. If I could give this place a 1/2 star, I would! The 1/2 star is for the polite sales girl behind the counter. As for the pastries - YUCK!!! Extremely disappointed. I have been wanting a good cupcake with delicious buttercream frosting. This place is NOT the place to get it. It's on my way home so I figured, why not? I bought 4 cupcakes thinking could any bakery really screw up cupcakes? Well, I certainly have an answer to that! They were dry. Dry is being nice... They were rocks with oily frosting on top. My dog didn't even touch them and she eats just about anything! I also picked up some of those cute petite desserts for the family for tonight & tomorrow (mini-eclairs, cream puffs, those taramisu chocolate cups and a slice of red velvet cake). So....got a flat tire and walked over to Oak Mill Bakery to wait for roadside assistance. The store normally sells coffee and has seating but for whatever reason the manager said "no coffee" and you cannot sit and wait here. They had just opened. I just ordered probably 100th cake from this bakery. In addition to the custom cake images they have on their website, they also have a huge selection of binders at the location and the ideas and images will blow your mind! We came on July 1st to order a custom cake for the last minute birthday party for the 5th of July. Danielle explained all the options and was so very patient as I was trying to figure out the best option for us not having to purchase the item that was too big for the occasion. I finally stopped by and I will never do that again. I ordered various pieces of cake to sample and the service was great but when I got home to try what I had bought I was extremely disappointed. All the various pieces of cake were dry and tasted old. The frosting on the one cupcake I bought tasted like mothballs and everything was awful. I ended up throwing all the items away. The presentation of their bakery goods is fantastic but they have no taste and everything is stale. I will never return and now I know why their parking lot is always empty. Ordered from this location multiple times over the past 10 years. The cakes were good quality. However my last experience with this bakery was very unpleasant. Came to order a custom cake for my daughter's birthday. We came in 30 min before closing and had to wait in a long line. When it was our turn to order, the girl didn't want to take my order. The order was 2 weeks from that day and she made it seem like it was not enough time and she was doing me a favor. She was also very rude and said that "I needed to arrive 30 min before close or earlier to make the order". Which I did but had to wait in line. The order took maybe 10 minutes and all the while it felt like she is doing me a big favor by placing it. Both of the girls working there are not friendly and seems like they don't want to be working there. The cake itself was pretty and tasted good, but I won't be returning as their customer service is truly lacking and prices are not exactly cheap. There this one blonde there is so rude. She was trying to do crowd control and say only 5 ppl allow and kicked some ppl out that had a 2 year old when there was still clearly 10 ppl in the bakery. When finally the family with the toddler came in, there were still 10 ppl in there. The dessert and cake taste old and looked like it was there for a couple of days.
