I have been told for the last two years of going to this dentist that I needed 3 crowns. This week I got a second opinion and it ends up I only need 2 fillings. My husband went this week also and the dentist didn't even come in to discuss what needed to be done. He had a previous diagnosis of needing 2 crowns and a filling and a tooth extraction. He never suggested having a crown on this tooth before it got so bad. This time the hygenist just said you need one filling. UPDATE: Husband had 2nd opinion. First thing was, when was the last time you had your teeth cleaned, he told them last week. They said whoever did it did a terrible job and they reschedule a tooth cleaning right away. What? Exceptional work. We had our long time Dentist retire and sell his practice to an outfit that didn't take our insurance. So we began the hunt. Oak Hill Dental was close to our house so we checked it out. I, of course, provided the wrong insurance information at first. The front staff worked their magic once I gave the correct information. They were able to use that to come up with exact figures for the Lady and I. So, first her appointment and she was pleased. My turn. They have headphones with music and work up a Frank Zappa stream on music. The Dentist was great and did the cleaning as the tech helped. I had a really good session, he was not rough, and I almost fell asleep during the playing of "Billy The Mountain". I really enjoy their sending 2 reminders and confirmations before arriving. If you don't have great dental insurance (and even if you do), run from this practice! Dr. Cantu selected an aggressive treatment plan and told my daughter she had 7 cavities that needed to be filled and the cost would be $3,000 (we don't have dental insurance). When I asked about timing and if we could wait, he said they should be filled this summer. We got a second opinion and the new dentist said that there were indeed several spots of decay but none had crossed the dentin and may NEVER cross the dentin. There was no need to fill the cavities now and we could check back in a year. The same thing happened to my friend's 22 yr old son. Dr. Cantu said 2 fillings were needed. He procrastinated and visited a different dentist 6 months later who said no work was needed. In our case, the price of services at this office were also more expensive than other Austin dentists. He wanted $100 more than our orthodontist (a specialist) to fix a broken permanent retainer. He also wanted more than $650 for a bite guard that I ordered online custom for $150 from CustomTeethDevices.com. I don't begrudge the dentist making a profit, especially after COVID year, but this pattern for my family seems like downright offensive. read more

I found Dr. Cantu through glowing recommendations on NextDoor. This is not your old school dentist. Scheduling was a breeze - you can schedule appointments online and view all appointments that are available. You can also complete new patient paperwork and the health history paperwork online as well. They run your insurance before you get there and confirm that everything has gone through. The location is very easy to find and the staff is incredibly friendly and easy going. The office is very warm and inviting. They play relaxing music and even have blankets for you to to wear during your appointment, which is great for comfort, if you get cold, or if you just want some extra weight. They also have a Playstation Vue in the examination room which is nice to pass the time while you are waiting for the dentist to come in. They use the blood pressure wrist cuffs which I prefer - I think that it provides a much more relaxed experience for everyone. After a basic cleaning, you can schedule your next appointment, which I appreciate. I always lose track of the months and sometimes misplace the postcard appointment reminders that some dentists send out. Dr. Cantu is so friendly and easy going. It was actually a pleasure having him go over my x-rays, clean my teeth, and talk to him about my oral hygiene and dental health. read more

Great experience! Our previous dentist stopped taking our insurance, so we decided to switch to Oak Hill Dental. Natasha was extremely thorough and explanatory on our first visit. Stacy is also very helpful with insurance and scheduling. At our previous dentist, we could never get a straight answer about how much things would cost. Called last week for an emergency appt to look at my chipped tooth. Emphasized the emergency part. They said they could fit me in today I get there and they had confused my appts thinking I had a cleaning today. I booked both appts by phone last week and specifically said this was urgent. Now they can't take me. Just all around disorganized and actually rude when I got there. Don't recommend. Also high prices they charge for insurance covered cleanings I don't even know what that's about. read more

I was referred to this office for a second opinion after being told by a pervious dentist that I needed to get a crown after a filling fell out. Dr Cantu was very thorough and really examined my tooth and was confident that I could just get it filled without needing a crown. I went back today for the filling and it was one of the most comfortable experiences I have ever had at the dentist. The office is clean and smells good, the staff is friendly, I barely felt the Novacaine (which usually always bothers me) and was comfortable through the entire filling. I would definitely recommend this office to anyone who is looking for an honest dentist that is extremely thorough does a great job while being gentle. read more

Great experience here as a new patient. Very professional and the office is very beautiful and relaxing. Super high tech upgraded equipment. Bonus points that it's close to my house. Dr. Cantu did my cleaning himself (which was a partial deep clean) and I didn't feel any pain at all even now almost 10 hours after. I was warned my mouth might be sore after the numbing solution wore off. And he didn't try to upsell me expensive unnecessary procedures like other dentists. We think, "Good; that is to be expected of any professional office that one is paying for professional services and is mindful of my time as the client." Yet, then, she/they did NOT call and confirm. If/since this is the behavior/mindset of the support staff (employed by the dentist) I will take a PASS on this dentist because in Austin, we have MANY to choose from. As a manager myself, I always apply basic small behaviors of a practice or business to the larger picture.
