I have been going to Austin Primary Dental for a bit over a year now. All of the staff there have been friendly, competent, and wonderful in their jobs. Every time I go there I feel comfortable during the procedures and never have any issues with my cleanings etc... I recently had an accident which required a root canal and crown, my first. They took absolutely wonderful care of me and helped me get through the pain and trouble I caused. I am happy to have found a quality dental office with a wonderful and caring staff! I was surprised that I could get in the same day as I called. Even though they weren't able to do the extractions, they were very knowledgeable and took extra X-rays to make sure. I came in with a Groupon for a teeth cleaning and exam. I was a little nervous going in because I hadn't seen a dentist in a couple of years and knew I didn't have the best gums. But ultimately what I learned from this experience is that it's not worth it to get a Groupon to a dentist because they will only use it to scam you into unnecessary procedures that are much more expensive than a cleaning. Everyone was very nice and I felt I got a good cleaning from the hygenist, but she used all these scare tactics, trying to tell me I need to start doing peridontal cleanings and took pictures of all these places saying I might have several cavities. This was very scary to me because like I said I hadn't visited a dentist in a while. Clearly, the doctor has a conscience to downgrade the expensive procedures the hygenist was trying to sell. She told me I had no cavities, but still pressured me to make an appt for a debridement. I went home and called my cousin who's a dentist and he said debridements are only for people who have so much plaque and tartar that the doctor can't assess whether they have cavities or not. Clearly, that was not my situation since she gave me a cavity diagnosis. After going to a family friend's dental practice for a second opinion, he just said that I should come back in six months for another cleaning, floss regularly, and they might do a slightly deeper cleaning on a few teeth in six months. No full debridement and no peridontal cleanings every three months like Primary Dental tried to tell me. I don't think it's worth it to go here just for the cheap cleaning if you don't have health insurance unless you have nerves of steel and can say no to whatever they try to pressure you into. It sucks that you can't trust anyone in the healthcare industry to just give you health care. They all just want to squeeze a few more dollars out of you. read more

Update: After I posted this review, Dr. Rajanna, who did not install the crown, called me back asking for more information. I explained what happened in more detail and she invited me to come in and speak with her in person. She was empathetic but also underscored that she just took over the practice and would have to do some digging to figure out what happened here. I will update my review after my meeting with her. It sounds like she's willing to find a fair resolution to this problem. I've changed my review from one stars to three because most companies wouldn't even bother to try and make things right. I went there for a cleaning and discovered I needed to have a root canal re-treated and to replace my dental crown. They sent me elsewhere to have the re-treatment done and I came back to have the new cap installed. Apparently they only have a year warranty on their dental caps...my new dentist tells me the industry standard is five years. I didn't know that. My last cap lasted 16 years. This cap lasted 2 years...and it broke while I was eating a dang almond.... My new dentist says that the cap was likely made poorly or installed incorrectly. I called Austin Primary Dental and they told me they wouldn't have anything to do with it and told me to call the company that did the re-treatment. Called the re-treatment company next (Hill Country Endo in New Braunfels, they are great btw) and they explained that they never order caps and that Austin Primary would have placed the order for the cap. Called Austin Primary again and had to press them only to have them acknowledge that they did in fact order the cap but because of their absurdly short warranty they will not stand by their work. Now I get to pay for the cap all over again within a two year period. At least this time I'll be working with a different dentist. I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

Quick, friendly, and pretty painless all things considered! I had to get some bondings done on a couple of teeth but I'm in a pickle financially so they waived my copay, which was really nice of them and totally unexpected. Such a huge relief to me! Additionally, they didn't judge me for not flossing. Ever. 25 years, no cavities, and I've only flossed a dozen or so times in my life. But still, I was kind of expecting a lecture when I admitted that I don't floss and they were just like "Wow!" I guess if I'd had cockroaches in my molars it might have been a different conversation. I've been going to Austin Primary Dental for over two years and have always been very pleased with their service and value. I have had a few cleanings and 2 cavity fillings (my first two ever, at the ages of 31 & 33) there with great results. Going 31 years without a cavity (or braces/anything other than cleanings & wisdom teeth extraction) I was a bit worried for my first filling. I've really enjoyed Dr. Kyatam and the great team in her office at Austin Primary Dental. I had an old existing bridge from probably 1986, Dr. Kyatam explained the newer materials and techniques for cosmetic bridges that would produce a much better aesthetic result. I am extremely happy with my new all porcelain bridge -- I've received so many compliments and am more confident in my smile. I've also had regular cleanings, Zoom whitening (which worked quite well), and had all my old metal fillings replaced with tooth colored fillings - and I've been happy with all the work. Came in with a Groupon a couple weeks ago, good for a cleaning and xrays. I was very interested in my mouth situation cause I hadn't been to the dentist in years! Sara was my hygeniest. She was courteous and spent time educating me on dental health- much appreciated. I followed her advice on getting a nice brand mouth wash which I use now. I win again! I am shocked to read negative reviews. Austin Primary Dental has been WONDERFUL to me. They are very punctual. In the 6 years I have been going there, I have only waited once or twice to be taken back for my appt. The hygenist, Sara, and Dr. Kyatam are always so nice and gentle. They deal with me and my overly sensitive gums so well. I don't even have to ask for topical anymore, they just automatically do it, and never charge me extra. One year, I was going to have a procedure done, and was prepared to pay out of pocket, bc it was already rejected by my insurance. I already paid, but they wanted to resubmit it again, just in case. And guess what?! They were able to get my insurance to pay for it! They ended up giving me BACK money that I had already paid! They did not have to do that! I so appreciated them for taking the extra time and saving me hundreds of dollars. I very strongly recommend this team of professionals for any dental needs. read more

I was an hour early because I though my appointment was at a different time, but they worked with me and still took me back to start my x rays anyways.
