Oak Grove Kennel is fantastic! I'm glad that I found them! My dog, Brenda, and I recently moved to an apartment in Woodburn, Oregon, and unfortunately, my dog is extremely noise phobic and anxious overall, and this has made it very difficult to keep her at our apartment-- we live on the bottom floor, and Brenda panics every time that she hears noise from the upstairs neighbor; and this has made daily life miserable, with her constantly on edge and panicking over every sound. After researching local boarding places, I contacted Oak Grove Kennel about boarding my dog temporarily while I figure out how best to manage Brenda's anxiety moving forward, because keeping her at the apartment was not working (she is now on medication for her anxiety, but the medication takes time to fully work, which is another reason for my wanting to board her: give her a comfortable place to board while the medication has a chance to take effect). And Oak Grove was more than happy to assist me. Brenda boarded initially at Oak Grove for eight days, and it worked out great. The staff was even nice enough to allow me to make periodic visits to the facility so that I could visit Brenda and ensure her that I didn't completely abandon her -- I visited about three times. I then brought Brenda back home, had a few rough anxious nights, then brought her back to Oak Grove for another boarding stay -- and Brenda is currently at the facility as I type this review. And just like last time, I have visited Brenda a few times over this past week! The staff at Oak Grove is very accommodating, friendly, and knowledgeable. And, like I mentioned previously, they are kind enough to allow me to make visits to the facility to visit my dear sweet dog, something which means a lot to me because I miss my dog greatly when she's away. My mother and siblings work here and I hear nothing but good things. My mom's dog is always smelling good meaning they are all definetly well groomed. I have only been here a short time and was looking for a groomer. With the challenge of the covid-19 my grooming appointment is was cancelled. I was so excited that this kennel was open. I have an older guy who can be cranky. I have not had good experiences with other groomers in the past. I explained my concerns and they assured me that my " old man" would be fine. Well he was better than fine. He was so relaxed when I picked him up. They did a great job giving him a new looking. I definitely will use them again, in fact I have an appointment to take my other 3 in for grooming. read more

Awful place. Will not bring dog there again. Left my dog dirty and scared of the owners

My dog got pretty hurt at this place and had to be taken to the vet. I have vet signatures CONFIRMING he was abused and his wounds were NOT self inflicted. I've had the woman try to bribe me into taking my reviews down and try to back peddle on what happened with my dog. Gaslighting to try and make the story seem like my dog was the problem when that obviously isn't the truth. I also will add the lady demanded cash payment before I was even allowed to see him, knowing he was hurt and needed medical attention. Everything is on record with a report made recently in favor of us since vet confirmed abuse. DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE WITH YOUR BABY! Trust me. I don't care if you've brought your animal here before and "they were fine" Why risk it??? Shaggy dog is such a better place I promise you. Pet Village even. I can give you a list of trusted place with no animal abuse records. Take care of your pet baby. Don't leave them with this lady. read more

I toured the The facilities to determine whether or not I would board my dog here when I go on my future vacation next month. I was more than impressed with the facility, the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable, they clean the stalls three times a day. Love this place so much!!!! They have literally been around forever- like before salem ever had dog boarding options! Cheryl the owner is always there and the kindest woman! They have affordable pricing and as everyone has mentioned they treat your animals as their own! I had to do some traveling, and this place came recommended I drive by it often for my job, so it was a good place to check out. I'm glad I did. I've never been disappointed by their services. They've been there when we've needed them and shown genuine care for our cats. We were willing to travel about 60 miles for their services. (Local services were full.). I had used them before when we lived in the area and used them again. Since we were moving both times, they were truly a lifesaver. I boarded my 14 yr. old Shepard mix ( Calli ) for 6 nights beginning August 16, 2022, and picked her up around 10am, August 22, 2022. I paid the attendant and asked how Calli was doing. She responded that she slept most of the time. I had taken a bag of her food and a few treats for her to be fed while I was away. The attendant went in the kennel area to retrieve Calli, and when she brought her out, she could not stand up by herself. A second attendant had made like a bedsheet or towel sling that was positioned under her belly just in front of her rear legs, that acted as support for her two rear legs as she was so weak, she could not stand by herself. The bag of food and treats I provided were hardly touched. Like alot of 14 yr. dogs, she has some rear end joint stiffness, but never had trouble getting up, standing or walking. When I picked her up, she could do none of those. I believe she was so weak from not eating, and apparently none of the attendants paid much attention to her during her stay. I was mentally preparing myself for my dog dying and believe that she may have died if she had been there another 3 or 4 nights I would never use this kennel again, and suggest others find a better run business. read more

I took my Goldendooddle in and was told that he was so matted that he would have to be shaved. I was aware he did have some mats, but still do not believe it warranted an all over shave. In addition I specifically asked that the fur on the top of his head as well as as the sides of his snoot be trimmed but not shaved allowing for the areas beneath is ears which I was told was mated to be shaved. I just didn't want all the cuteness from his head fur to totally disappear. I was told a number of times over the course of the morning how busy they were with many large dogs that day, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was just much easier to just shave him all over and save time. I called this morning to talk with them, and spoke with Courtney who was very argumentative and rude. I was politely expressing my concerns and was told that they told me when I came in if I didn't want him shaved all over I could just take him some where else. Never happened. Instead of listening to what I had to say and try and understand my concerns I was met with hostility and in the midst of a sentence, I was promptly hung up on. So much for customer service. We've been taking our dogs to Oak Grove for the past 5 years for grooming and boarding. We recently got a new puppy and he had his first puppy cut here today. We cannot be happier!! Do not take your dog here for any services. The owner/operator is rude and consistently, unprofessional. Before I begin, let me say that the two times we brought my dog in to be groomed, we were pleased with the job despite the higher average price. However, each instance of contact with the owner/operator yielded conversations and actions that ranged from unprofessional to downright rude, passive aggressive and ugly. She came on good recommendation as far as grooming skill. Instance #1: calling for information for grooming date. Simple answers to questions like, "what are your hours?" and "do you have an earlier time?" were met with drawn out complaints about her problems with customers. Instance #2: The first appointment (morning). We brought our dog in and she was genuinely pleasant. We asked when we should pick him up, and she said: "anytime before 4 pm, we don't mind keeping him". We thought that was nice because we had shopping to do in town (we are from the coast and the location was an hour away). She called us an hour or so before 4 pm We returned just before 4 pm and she was visually and irked that we didn't come when she called. My wife and I looked at each other thinking the same thing:"by 4 pm was fine." Like I said, the grooming job was good. We complimented her and she started in about how hard it was to find groomers and that she didn't really want to be in the business anymore and that it used to be a family member's business and that it was getting too hard for her. We got our dog and wished her well and discussed the issue of the pickup time between my wife and me. "We didn't need to hear all of that, did we?" Upon the second grooming, everything went well. And we made an appointment for a third session. Incident #3: On the day of the third grooming, we had a house emergency and called to notify her. SHE WENT BALLISTIC to my wife over the phone. My wife told her that we were sorry but it was an emergency and that it could not have been helped. We called her as soon as we could. The appointment was for 8:30 am and operating hours begin at 8 am. She raved on like a crazy person and hung up on my wife. The kennels: We toured the facility upon our first visit. There's nothing there that's special. We inquired about kenneling and were not impressed. Typical concrete and chainlink cages and a very early sub-caging time. We asked about exercise and she said they walk them out in front near the busy highway. We had other options. We were just inquiring, but sheesh! What a way to run a railroad. We will not be taking our dog or recommending Oak Grove Kennels for grooming or kenneling strictly out of how we were treated. We received no discounts. We paid the full price. If you have no "best face" to put forward, then we suspect "best practices" behind the counter may be lacking too. I don't need to be pampered or treated like royalty. I, like every consumer, needs an operator of any business to maintain a level of trust through normal, civil behavior. Otherwise, they get no business from us, or any of our friends with dogs. We will tell this story for a long time, and our advise will always be the same. Do not use Oak Grove Kennels for kenneling or grooming. The business is attached to their private residence, and according to the actions and statements of the operator, she is not enthused, interested or otherwise concerned with instilling faith that your dog will be well-cared for in her hands. Remember, we said the work was satisfactory. It's a customer service and trust issue and we will not risk our dog's well-being if a business errodes that trust. read more

Do not take your dogs here if they bark. Our son came for a visit on a Thursday night very late and he brought his dog. Because we did not have time to socialize them before we left for work early the next morning we took our two dogs with us with the idea of boarding them at a kennel near our work and then socializing the dogs after work. I called Oak Grove Kennel on South Pacific Hwy in Monmouth, OR. and asked if I could board my dobie and my mutt for the day and was told that we could . Our dog has an issue with baseball hats and will bark when she sees someone, especially a man, wearing one. When we parked at Oak Grove there was a man (wearing a baseball cap) and a woman unloading items from a car. Our dog began barking and as I got out of the car I apologized to the man and stated that hats scare her. He replied very rudely, 'Well if she is going to stay here she better get over it'. I did not reply to this but proceeded inside with my husband. A moment later two women came into the office and one (who was the woman outside) asked if we were the new people for boarding. I replied yes and then the woman stated that while our dogs were there they would 'work on her issue'. When I asked what she meant she stated that if our dog barked at the man in the hat she would be ' scolded and corrected'. I asked her what she meant by "corrected" and she again replied that our dog would be 'scolded and corrected'. The other woman then replied that they 'did not allow barking' at the kennel (they must only board mute dogs I guess). I said that scolding was acceptable but that if by 'correcting' she meant hitting I was not okay with anyone hitting my dog. She then replied that the man in the hat was her husband and no dog would be allowed to bark at him. I again stated that I was not interested in them training or 'correcting' my dog at this time and just needed a safe place for them to hang out until 4 p.m. She then stated that if they could not 'correct' my dog that the dogs would not be allowed to stay, I wholeheartedly agreed that the dogs would not be staying and quickly left. This kennel was recommended to me by a friend who stated that this was a great place and the people were very caring however I did not see even a hint of this. The three people we encountered where rude and pissy. I do believe that places of business have the right to refuse services to anyone but I do think they should probably do this with a little more tack and professionalism and if they want to give up boarding costs for two dogs who would require no feeding or exercise but simply a kennel for a few hours then so be it. I also know that 'correcting' a dog by hitting them is not the way to get a dog over their issues but instead make them worse. Once our dog gets to know someone they can wear a hat around her with no problems. Being hit by a stranger will do nothing but make her hate hats more. read more

Do not use this place !!!!! Took my well behaved dog there for the first time. Both the ladies I spoke with before I got there were very nice and knowledgable. They let me know that pick up time was 11:00 am the next day, I explained that it would be close to 11:30 that I could get there. Both said that would be ok as long as it wasn't much longer. We picked up our pup at exactly 11:32. The owner ( come to find out ) said she was charging is for another day. When I explained that I had previously talked with her staff and they had told me about ( check out time) she wanted to know who I talked to, like she was gonna let them have it after I was gone (bitchy for sure) I sure didn't give her any names. Long story short , was no thought of customer service. I was appalled and told her, even asked if I could pay pro rated. I told her she just lost a new customer that would have given her a lot of business and she was going to lose as many existing ones that I could find and change their minds. This lady had no business being behind the counter and should let her staff run it for her. I bet she is a bad boss. Hope she doesn't give her gals a hard time. And I hope the staff all find a better place to work. All this for a few bucks extra . Tell all your friends . Thanks , let's all take our pets to an ethicaly good business for care. read more
