As a new transplant to Boise from the east coast, my husband and I decided to try this place for dinner. There are two sides to this establishment: the Lounge and the restaurant. We opted for the restaurant. We arrived at the tail end of happy hour on a Saturday. Service was good, ambiance was nice and the drink prices were great. We ordered a charcuterie board. It was decent. The blueberry goat cheese was outstanding, and I was surprised how much I enjoyed that. I love the flavor of a good hangar steak and was delighted to see a menu offering. I ordered it medium but it came out well done. The portion was small for the price but I was hungry and don't like to complain. It was like chewing a shingle which amused my SO. I did not say anything because I didn't want to wait and was having a nice time. But we will probably try other locales before giving this another try. read more

We have been coming to this restaurant for years trying to like it. They have wonderful staff and waitresses working there. we enjoy their meatballs and GF bread. Their main flaw is they can't cook meat. I used to order the rack of lamb but it was always over cooked. I finally gave up ordering that and have found the salmon turns out good. Tonight, I tried the steak (cooked medium ) and shrimp. It was good except the steak was medium well to well done. It was dry and tasted awful. I couldn't eat it. I asked the waitress about it and she was happy to put an order in for a new one. shortly after the "owner" came out with my over cooked steak and told me I was wrong, it was a perfectly cooked medium steak. She was rude and disrespectful and in the process dropped the plate and ruined our dinner. I believe we are done giving them another chance. I can deal with an occasional mistake if they are willing to fix it. But it is too expensive for a bad steak, badly cooked and then to be told I don't know what a medium cooked steak is. We won't be back. There are plenty restaurants in close proximity that cook a perfect medium steak every time. We will go there instead. read more

I tried to place an order through Uber Eats Friday night for I thought, a pretty expensive meal. the Uber app showed the meal being prepared while the Uber driver made her way from south Meridian to pick it up. After waiting a good 15 mins or more (time enough for the Uber driver to get there) they cancelled my order. No explanation, no attempt at trying to contact me for a different meal, nothing. I am very disappointed that I did not get the meal and sad for the Uber driver who wasn't able to get a tip. Shame on you Oak Barrel. read more

Visited a few times, food is excellent as well as service. Recently called to make a reservation and gentleman that answered phone, Rich or some name like this, had no customer service experience. Was rude and not helpful. I asked for a time and was informed it was not available and he preceded to hang up. Called back and same individual I asked what time was available and it felt like it was a hassle for him to look for any availability. We settled on a time 30 minutes later, but at this point I was frustrated with this individual no matter how the food is. As we continued to drive I called other restaurants in the area and was able to get in same time I booked. Called back and cancelled, the start of this experience was not great and turned us off this restaurant. If I were the owner who also cooks, I would consider not letting this individual answer phone or even keep his job. He knows nothing about customer service or hospitality. He should be proactive to get the business. read more

We pass by The Oak Barrel and have always wanted to try it. Looked like a smaller local restaurant and when checking the menu online we thought that we would finally give it a try. I wish that I could include a review of the food, but we never got to that point in our visit. When we entered the restaurant it wasn't very busy, so we were immediately greeted by a very nice young lady who escorted us to a table out on the patio. On the patio you get a little road noise but in all it is a pleasant atmosphere. There were two other tables occupied near us and the people at those tables were being served as we sat down. Two different employees came out multiple times and either took orders or served food to those tables after we were seated, without even a glance in our direction. We waited between 15 and 20 minutes without being acknowledged after being seated. I understand that some places are under-staffed at times, but a least come to us, serve us water, take our drink order and explain the situation, if that actually was the issue. Finally we gave up and headed for the door. When passing by the reception I mentioned to the hostess and a server standing nearby our situation, and they seemed very surprised. We like giving our business to smaller local places, but there are too many others to try so we probably won't be back to this one. read more

This is for the bar: (the restaurant has been very hit & miss when I've been in)- the several times I've been into the bar now the bartender has been delightful! Ive met several of the bartenders, & all have been very kind & full of suggestions for this minimal drinker! The atmosphere is positive & lively & very well lit. Absolutely love that it's well lit! I do wish they had some lower chairs- not real accessible-friendly in that sense- but the high chairs are comfortable (& hey i like to swing my legs like a kid!) Keep in mind the music volume does seem to really vary- so not super conducive to intimate conversations- but overall a very positive place to get a fun drink with friends! Note that the bar is open until 2AM (not just 10PM like the restaurant.) read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat - to go with friends for a nice evening out, to take my family, for father's day, etc. My kids (9 & 11) had the option of choosing to get pizza for their birthday dinners (they rarely get to have pizza due to having food intolerances and sticking to more restrictive dietary choices), and yet they both wanted to go to Oak Barrel! They, along with my husband, typically get the Atlantic grilled salmon. It's always cooked perfectly and they LOVE it, along with the veggie sides and gluten free bread. For me, I know it might sound silly but I like to get a plate full of veggie sides... All of their vegetables are fresh and cooked to order with lots of garlic... the flavor is amazing. In particular, I get the brussel sprouts, the mushrooms, the asparagus, the candied carrots, and the red potatoes. The tomato basil soup is also delicious. I have had several friends and family members move to the area over the years and they have all enjoyed their meals at Oak Barrel (based on my recommendation), and they continue to come back and bring their friends and family as well. Personally, I've had dinner here at least 20+ times... The service has always been wonderful. The *only* thing I can say that isn't positive is that once in a while the brussels are undercooked and need more time to cook to soften up. That being said, I always get them because they're typically cooked just right and if you're worried about that you could just let your server know. Otherwise, this place is a total gem and I'm so thankful to have this restaurant in my area. read more

I've been twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. Drinks and wine were all great, and the gluten free bread at the beginning is really yummy. For lunch, I had the house salad with salmon, and it was delicious! Others that had the sandwiches said they were all good as well. For dinner, I had the Orange roughy and roasted potatoes, both were yummy. Friends had the prime rib, and said it was tasty, but over cooked. My only small gripe was the price, which seemed a little high. (For example, the fish came with one side. For the price, I would have expected a starch and a veggie, or a side salad maybe?) Double date night! Found Oak Barrel on Yelp, it's a little bit of a weird location off the main part of town, and I am so glad we did! Very gluten-free friendly, cute atmosphere, great staff (our server Katy was awesome), and amazing food. Highly recommend the Salmon entree (I order it with the pan seared buttery Brussels Sprouts). We also ordered two specials which were Prime Rib and the Signature salad with chicken. By the end, everyone was happy and full. Gluten-free friends they have an gluten-free artisan bread with dipping oils - check it out! It's also great to dip in the tomato basil cup of soup. Try to not fill up, they have a gluten-free apple crisp and a gluten filled Guinness Cake! We will definitely be returning to Oak Barrel! read more

Candied bacon? Juicy burger? Fries that are amazing AF? Yeah, this place will be this California transplant's go to for elegant lunches. We stopped in today in search of a solid, low key, smart Sunday lunch. Not only was the staff super accommodating and absolutely kind to us and our toddler, they were totally on the ball and appropriately attentive. My husband and I each selected burgers, not because we have little imagination, but because it is a staple, therefore an accurate measure of a restaurant's culinary chops. I had the candied bacon burger and my husband had the royal burger with pulled pork on it with smoked Gouda cheese. Holy meat goodness Batman! The bacon was lightly sweet--perfectly crispy. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium. I love it when a chef gets that right! My husband's burger was piled high with pulled pork and a silky fried egg. Wow. Just wow. Look at the pic! I think it's awesome that the menu options are simple. That means the kitchen can focus on quality and fantastic execution. We can't wait to come back for dinner. Super nice wine list as well. Very underwhelming....the service was slow even when there were barely any people there, and while the burger we ordered was excellent, my mushroom risotto was another story. The rice was al dente- which is not right for a risotto. Barely a mushroom to be found and the cheese combo was off. If you can't perfect a dish, or even get close to respecting it, don't have it on the menu. Do not order the risotto here. Our waiter looked very sad with no measurable personality and very obviously didn't want to be there. Thank you Oak Barrel for providing us with a lackluster date night. We were very happy with our visit to Oak Barrel. After losing my families trust with my last pick I completely regained their trust. **SERVICE** We recieved amazing service from the moment we walked through the door. We wanted to try Oak Barrel so many times but we had the impression that it would not be kid friendly. However it was just the opposite. Great kids menu accompanied with crayons to entertain kids and nothing breakable lol. The server I think his name was Kyle (orange suspenders?) did an amazing job. He was friendly and very knowledable about the menu. **FOOD** Per our servers sugguestion we started with the meatball appetizers. It was DIVINE!!! 4 different meats with four different sauce. HIGHLY recommend that dish. Unfortunately I am dieting so I stuck with the signature burger no bun even though all the pasta dishes looked tempting. The burger did not disappoint! The sauces brought it all together and my veggies tasted fresh not frozen which is a plus. By the time dessert came I was no longer on a diet lol. I indulged in a Genius cake. I hope that's what it's called all I heard was chocolate cake and I was all in. It was the perfect way to end our visit. **Atmosphere** The atmosphere was kind of like I can wear a tye if I want but won't feel out of place if I don't. I was intimidated by this place being over the top fancy like the too fancy you feel you can't be comfortable. I got a very family friendly and inviting vibe. I'm excited to return. Also it's a bonus they have a lounge seperated from the main dinning area and it looks like a great location for our next date night. read more

We absolutely loved this place! We saw it driving by, looked at their menu online and turned right around to go have dinner! We were not expecting a quick seating as it was New Years Eve, but they had a table ready right when we walked in the door. Our waitress Kaitlyn was very patient and kind and made our wonderful drinks. My favorite was the lavender lemonade. We ordered one special, the Garlic & Jalapeño soup, and the Signature Barrel Burger. The soup was absolutely amazing! Our dinners were superb as well. They were cooked perfectly. The only thing I regret is not having enough room for desert after dinner! I highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back (especially to try the deserts!). read more

Our experience at The Oak Barrel in Eagle, lengthily but worth reading. It was last Wednesday when we met some friends to go see the new Scheels and afterwards decided to go have Dinner. Our friends live on the far West side of Eagle and we live in Kuna. Even though there were a lot of restaurants that we could have gone to, which were closer to us, we decided to drive through rush hour traffic just to go to The Oak Barrel. This was due to the fact that we have been there numerous times and we liked the food they served. Upon meeting at the restaurant around 6:15 PM, we choose to sit in the front part where they had booths. We were seated and ordered drinks. After a while we ordered our dinner, one of them being a "Medium Well to Well Hamburger". This is when the problem started. It took about 45 minutes to get served, (they were not busy), when the food was delivered, I ordered rice instead of a salad with my meal and it came with the salad no rice. My friend cut her hamburger, the inside was pink. She notified the waitress about being pink inside, the waitress took offense to it and stated that it was not pink. Another female came over and asked what was going on without introducing herself to us. She proceeded to argue about the condition of the food and agreed with the waitress. When we asked to take it back and bring a well done hamburger she took it with a bad attitude. We were out of our drinks and the waitress passed us by numerous times without asking if we wanted more. After being passed by again, I got up and asked our waitress if we could get more drinks. When the waitress returned with the hamburger it was the same one that was cut in half and looked like they just threw the meat back on the grill for a while longer. The waitress stated they do not serve pink hamburgers and was very argumentative. We ate our dinner, and when the bill arrived we both decided that the service was so terrible that we were not going to leave a tip. I wrote a comment on the credit card receipt stating terrible service, my friend wrote something on his statement as well. We got up, left and went out into the parking lot to say our good buys and go home. It was at that time that the woman, who did not introduce herself to us at the table, came outside and started to follow us to our car. She then introduced herself as the "General Manager" and started to complain that we left no tip for her waitress. I informed her that her employee was terrible, brought my dinner without the rice I asked for, and never asked us if we wanted more drinks, I had to ask her. This exchange of words went on for about 5-8 minutes before she left stating that her waitress was afraid of us and she was inside crying. We were barred from the restaurant. In my whole life I never had a "General Manager" come out to the parking lot to argue with the clients. "THIS WAS THE WORST SERVICE WE HAVE EVER RECEIVED". Thank you for taking the time to read this but I thought you should know how the management treats clients. read more

This place is quite amazing. Hidden away in what I think is a odd location. This place has has amazing, food, a great decor inside and out and great service. We work late and they are Open late so their combined offering are perfect for my crazy crew. I wish these guys much success. Keep up the excellent work. Everything from the fresh bread, to the variation of meatballs the apps are excellent. Bacon Jalapeno with White Cheddar Sauce wow!!, Chicken Parmesan and Filet Mignon with Cabernet Reduction!!! Had a great late lunch at OB. I love that they have two sides to this restaurant; one being a bar and the other just a nice size dining area. I love being able to dress up and go to dinner but also a casual atmosphere. Oak Barrel provides this experience and the full menu is available on either side. Started out with their charcuterie plate which had some nice options. Salami and salmon, several cheese choices, taster salad-dressing was tasty, fruit and toast. I loved my Mac & cheese and soup. So much bacon in the M&C. No complaints at all as you get bacon in every bite! My husband had a burger and it was cooked a perfect medium. I wanted his burger in all honesty. Fries were also good. Kudos to our server who made nice suggestions and kept our drinks full. read more

Sooo disappointed in Oak Barrel of Eagle! The staff was all wonderful, hence the 3 stars. The food was such a disappointment! I had a Cesar salad and the mussel appetizer as an entre. The Cesar dressing was, I don't know - watery? The taste was decent, I've had much better, but it just didn't taste finished, if that makes sense? Then my pound of mussels (minus the 2 that weren't open - why did they serve them to me?) came with maybe 2 TB of the white wine garlic sauce in the bottom of the bowl (so, just a bit dry). I pulled them all out of their shells and schmeared them in the little bit of sauce, then took a bite. SALTY - oh my goodness! Sooo salty!! So salty the taste of the mussels was totally overpowered! I told our server, but . . . . Hubby had the prime rib special with the mushroom risotto instead of baked potato. He said the risotto was very good, and the part of the prime rib that is around the outside was good, but the lovely center, although med rare, just like he asked for, was very tough and chewy. One of the other gals had the same thing, and her prime rib was tough too. Her husband had the pork chop, and he said his was way too salty, just like my mussels. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, and they pride themself on being a 'scratch' kitchen - everything being cooked to order. We were excited to eat there, but we probably won't be going back - we were just not as impressed as the total of the bill should have indicated! read more

It was not our intention to visit this establishment however we ended up here after learning that our intended destination had been booked for the evening for a Corporate event. Not wanting to invest a lot of time looking around we spotted Oak Barrel across the street and decided to give it a go. At first glance everything looked clean and in order. The restaurant was empty, as we had arrived between lunch and dinner hours. Being seated our first clue that maybe the owners have stopped caring; the booth was torn in several spots. Our server had a laid back, uninspired vibe going which carried on throughout our visit. We found that the time between her check up visits to our table were a bit too lengthy and therefore left us wanting drink refills, empty plates removed, etc.. It seemed that socializing in the corner with a group of other employees ranked higher on her list of priorities. The food was "okay". We enjoyed the meatball and flat bread starters. They had enough flavor and were appetizing enough to deserve a mention. The Fisherman's Wharf Chowder was lacking any real seasoning and especially required more salt which was not provided at the table. The portion size was also a bit small for it's $9 price tag. Our other food choices were nothing special and not even worth mentioning except to say that once again the seasoning was lacking. You are given a side of bread which is supposed to be served with a dipping sauce (not so in our case), and the option of one side. At the end of the meal we opted to try the apple cinnamon roll and Guinness chocolate cake. This again fell flat as both did nothing to excite the taste buds. All in all I think bland, uninspiring, and disappointing are the words to best describe our experience. read more

We moved to Eagle last year and really wanted to support this place. We have enjoyed the food and service here. But Oak Barrel needs to decide whether they are a smoking bar or restaurant. Three times during dinner on the patio we were smoked out. Our server was great about reminding the smokers that the bar patio smoke drifted to the restaurant, but seriously, if you have a no smoking policy, why provide ashtrays? There are many other beautiful patios in Eagle. Sorry to have to move on to another to get out of the smoke. read more

I was super excited to try this place. None of it went well. We went inside they have a fireplace in the middle. A party was walking out and I stepped back to the side to let the huge party out and my hand barely hit the glass of the fireplace when I stepped back and my knuckle got burned by the glass. My hand barely hit it. Can't imagine if you have a young toddler go in and just touch it. Second we were eating and a bug dropped down on our table. I was in shock and just flicked it off and continued. Then 5 mins later another bug fell from above and went into my hair and then I brushed it onto the table and my husband pushed it off and got our server Kimberly. She just stared at the bugs and just giggled to herself saying "oh these are this bug and I know that bc I lived in Utah." Never even apologized or asked to move us. I was constantly looking above me waiting for something else to fall. My husbands steak was tough. My food was okay. Just not a great experience with the staff. read more
