I was wanting to eat pizza for lunch, so I decided to eat at this place with my mom. We shared the green bell sausage roll which to me looked like a calzone. We waited patiently for our food to come out. This is the kind of place where you order your food up front and pay, then choose wherever you want to sit. There weren't many people which I liked. The employees were friendly especially this one guy. Didn't catch his name, though, but he looked like he was the manager. They serve chicken wings now! 6 pc ($8.50) 12 pc ($15.00) But I think it's worth it, because the wings are big! I got the 6 pc lemon pepper flavor. It came out hot and fresh!! I thought I was going to burn my mouth! But luckily, I didn't! By the way, the sausage roll stuffed with green bell peppers and onions came out hot and fresh, too. It tasted so good with the crushed pepper I had sprinkled on top. Sausage Roll ($7.00) Normally, I don't order fountain drinks, but I decided to order a coke with my meal. I have to give this place at least 4 stars just by the fact that they are in a good spot & offer pizza by the slice. That said, this place came up in our conversations with some fellow NY-transplants as the best in the area (or so they heard from other Northeast-transplant-friends) & so we had to check it out... & I was kind of disappointed. The original owners were from Jersey (not NY) but the folks who currently run the place are from the area. Was hoping for a little taste of NY but there are definitely other NY style spots in the area that are better. Had not been there in a couple years, but back in the area and met eight friends there. Wow was it obvious they had changed ownership. First of all the place was filthy. We sat inside because of the cooler weather. Where do I start? We needed a certain things I had to keep getting up and down all the while the who turns out to be the owner is sitting by herself at a table on her computer, listening to every exchange and never offering one bit of assistance. You do have to order at the counter, which is fine. Then they bring your food out...salads in to go boxes, paper plates so thin you could see thru them, cheap cheap cutlery that you can't cut salad or pizza with it breaks in half. My elderly mother could not pick up the pizza. We did ask the owner to bring out a knife to slice it since they didn't have any real cutlery. Two handicapped people with us. The owner never assisted anybody nor had anyone assist us to open the door as they sat there and watched us struggle. No one said thank you goodbye kiss my butt nothing. They must be living off an old reputation, but this cannot last long. No smiles no nothing. Oh, by the way food tasted horrible! Someone who gave just a little bit of care could really make this a thriving business in this location. As I left the restaurant, the owner had made her way to the side patio was screaming and dropping the F bomb so loudly that everybody was turning around. She was cursing someone on the phone. Very nasty lady. Her face would crack if she smiled. Such a wrong business for her. Plenty of other good restaurants along this beautiful area. Y'all... the customer service was insane. The cashier (older woman who seems to be mentioned in other reviews) was beyond rude to many customers while waiting for our order. I have worked in many restaurants and I cannot IMAGINE this attitude being tolerated by management in a single one of them. Just... wild. She apparently called the cops on a man for asking a question about his order? Just a total nightmare of a person to deal with. The pizza was fine. Not great. It's not even close to good enough to be treated the way they choose to treat their patrons. Our to go order wasn't even put in until about 30 minutes after we arrived to pick it up- clearly a flaw in their system, as several other customers were having the same experience- and no one even offered anything close to an apology for the wait time (or the rudeness). I am not a hard to please customer, and I've worked in enough restaurants to know how hard it can be. I cannot stress enough that this was some of the absolute WORST customer service I have ever experienced. We all have bad days, but also some people are just not suited for customer- facing jobs, and from what I witnessed, that cashier should not be dealing with customers. This will end up hurting their business, no one wants to be spoken to that way- (or god forbid have the police called on you) especially as a paying customer. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse my pizza dreams are crushed yet again twice in the same day. A simple slice of cheese pizza and rice balls missed so bad I am giving up on pizza for a bit. Easy order slice of cheese well done please and I got the doughiest floppy unable to pick up mess I've seen almost ever . This was worst then any frozen pizza I've ever had , no idea how this place operates , and again the menu looked and sounded amazing . Now onto the rice balls I understand they are frozen and not made fresh most likely but you can't think something this large can not be fried to bring up to temp. They were warm outside at best and rice was hard , cold center and lacked any type of seasoning. Fun, casual environment. Classic dark, brick on main street pizza joint feel. Family friendly feel. Employees are working to keep up and you feel welcome by their hustle albeit friendly the whole time. We had the Grandma Downtown, their classic square pizza and it did not disappoint. Shared a Caesar salad first and while it was pre-prepared in a plastic container, it was still fresh and tasty. Crushed red pepper and mozzarella cheese where in those little packets which is a bit of a 'meh', but worked out fine. Serve yourself drinks and water, but in such a small, quaint setting you felt cozy and comfortable as though you were at home. You seat yourself and ordering is done on your own via a QR code on the table and from your smartphone. Seems like the majority of their business is done online, walkup and they do sell by the slice. This has become my "go-to" pizza place in Gwinnett. If i'm going to go out for pizza, I want GOOD pizza not mediocre pizza and this place's pizza is really good. They're located in Downtown Duluth which is a great area as it is. They're open a little later than most places --10pm and their servers are really nice too. They don't customize a lot of things, but you can add toppings to any of their selections (except chicken). My friend and I have tried a couple of different types of pizzas they've made -- Sicilian and Grandma goes to Detroit. Soooo -- this grandma thing -- Their Grandma Pie has won several Best of Atlanta awards over the past few years. It is a pizza with lots of fresh mozzarella and other toppings such as basil and oregano with marinara sauce. It is amazinggg. We got the Detroit Style one to try Detroit Style which has a thick crust. You can tell that the pizza was made fresh. The crust is amazing. The sizes are pretty big too. From the picture, they don't look very big, but they are definitely filling and usually enough to take home 2-3 slices. Now the only thing is, their pizzas are a little pricier than other places. But for us it has been worth it. We tried a couple of salads -- Greek and Caesar -- but their style of salads weren't my favorite. I was a fan of the original O4W pizza when they first opened in Old Fourth Ward. When I moved to Duluth, I was excited to be near one of my favorite pizza places. The place is slow. It takes a while for pie to cook. Don't come here if you're in a hurry. The service is a bit lacking. I guess it's the authentic "NJ" vibe? Not sure. Most times, the service is fine. Sometimes, I've gotten some rude vibes from a few staff members. The food is good. I think their "The Jersey Round" is a very authentic NY (NJ) style pizza. I never had NJ style, but I'm assuming they're the same. But the crust is thin and crispy. The cheese has good mozz flavor. The tomato sauce is nice. It folds easily without too much droop. I would consider it one of the best NY style pizzas in the area. Their Detroit style is great too. I never had "real" Detroit style, except from Jet's. But this like a lot better than Jet's. The crust is very soft, airy, delicious, and greasy. Their classic Grandma Pie is average though. I loved their Grandma Pie in the original location. Maybe my mind remembered wrong and over-hyped it? But if you don't have an over-idealized version in your memory, it's a good to try. It comes with basil and fresh mozzarella. They also sell slices, which are huge. I think 1-2 will be a good meal if you don't want to order an entire pie. I like O4W. It isn't as amazing as I remembered it, but they do serve pretty good pizzas in the Duluth area. read more

Today's post is about my favorite pizza in ATL the grandma pie @o4wpizza. When @tattedpizzaguy opened up O4W on Irwin street I was lucky enough to be taken by my friend @el_sheldon and was amazed by how good pizza could be... Much to my dismay only a year later it moved to @city_of_duluth and it was a long time (maybe 2018) before I visited again and man im glad I did because it was just as amazing as it was the first time. Let me be clear in my opinion this is the best pizza I've had in the entire South (anticos is good too I just prefer NY / NJ style better) and compares to some of the best I've had in NY and here's why: 1. Tomato sauce - this stuff is so so flavorful, Anthony Spinas recipe is straight out of NJ and man does it taste good 2. Crust - the crust on the grandma is awesome crisp and thin with a thin layer of peccarino cheese on top to give it a little extra flavor 3. Fresh mozzarella - these guys make their mozzarella fresh in house everyday they take little globs and top the pizza with it and basil and it makes for an amazing pizza Anthony Spina is opening up @pizza_bytheslice in Virginia Highlands soon (I can't wait to have the grandma without driving all the way to Duluth) and they also have the super margherita @ninaandrafi which is similar but for now your best bet is to have this delicious pizza. Have loved O4W for years and was so very happy when they came Duluth. My family and grown children with their own families have stayed with O4W through their ups and downs. This is in a cute part of downtown Duluth near the square. You can get a full pie or a slice of pie. They have grandmothers pie and regular pie as well. I have ordered several slices and a whole from here and they all have been good and well priced. You can also get a salad and rice balls along with some other items. The staff is nice and you can sit inside or outside. I took a point off since the ambiance and maintenance of seating could use some work. It is pretty generic and nothing special. I guess if you just want a slice or pie and go it would be best. It take it to the park and eat there. I will still be back and get more slices when I am around the area. read more

This is our to go pizza spot! My family have been coming here regularly now for 3 years. We always get the Grandma's Pie, which I would recommend to everyone! It's such a simple pie, but so delicious! We've also tried the Bruschetta, Cheese Bread, Classic White, and Mr. DiMarco, which is similar toppings wise to Grandma's Pie, but with a thicker crust and more cheese. I would recommend each one of these! In the many years I've been here I've only had one real issue when they didn't put basil on my Grandma's Pie, and forgot to tell me they ran out. When I called they quickly apologized and fixed the issue. Also, FYI, take-out on Fridays and Saturdays do take a long time (30+ min at times) as they seem really busy. Walked in for a quick slice at around 2 pm Place was empty, they had a display of what appeared to be hours old, if not days old pizzas. Place was shabby ( not in a chic way) & dirty. My inclination was to just leave cause their offerings didn't appear fresh or appetizing, but i was hungry so i waited till the older women with the bad aura behind the counter came forward I inquired about the toppings on one of the slices, she appeared annoyed at my question, but i continued with my finally inquiry on the price of a slice. This is one of the best places I have ever eaten pizza. Period. It's in downtown Duluth, so you will have some issues with parking but it's worth the trouble of going and eating it in person when it comes steaming hot out of the oven. In front of the store, with COVID there is 15 minute parking so if you were so inclined to eat at home, you could order and pick up your food and get out of there relatively quickly. I have eaten here only once, the interior is always busy and prior to COVID there was always a wait to get in here. I've had the Arancini (rice balls) and they alone could be a meal. Their dough is special, there is no other way to describe it. The Grandma pie is what they are famous for, and it is worth the money. I have an affinity for cheesy breadsticks, because sometimes I'm not feeling marinara sauce. This is one of THE MOST AMAZING versions you can find anywhere. I don't know what they are putting on the dough underneath the layer of oozy cheesy goodness, but it essentially makes it nearly impossible to eat one. I am ashamed to say that prior to a trip out of town I ordered cheesy bread, thinking I could save some for my return. NOPE. I roasted the entire thing, and had some regrets of how full I was, but not eating the entire order. Pricing is on the higher side, but it's worth splurging occasionally just so you know what good quality ingredients and well executed cooking can do for a meal. Good to share with fellow friends- they have sangria, beer, wine- a nice spot to enjoy with your friends or family. The square on weekends can get busy- so my recommendation is to get take out, or come on "off-peak" hours so you can get in and out without the stress of waiting or wondering when you're going to get fed. read more

Highlights: good food, good service, but may not be as sanitary? We got: Grandmas pie - really really good. Very crispy, pretty thin crust with marinara sauce, cheese, and basil. Seems like there was cheese in the sauce! In its simplicity, it finds its deliciousness. But, I would not say it's a ny/nj pizza. Yes, I read other reviews (from other ny-ers) saying this pizza is very similar to ny pizza. I am from ny as well and I didn't think it was similar. If you say it's just a pizza place in GA, it would've set more accurate expectations, me thinks. The works - reminds me of Pizza Hut supreme pizza. I ain't knocking Pizza Hut so don't take that as an insult. Pizza Hut supreme is what built America! Ha jk. Nevertheless, it's good but grandmas pie is much much better. Crispy crust, just like they promised. Overall, great pizza place. But I did see the guy making pizza touch other items, his face, etc and then touch the pizza (after cooking. Dropped in for lunch the other day and had a pretty good pizza. We ordered the white pizza and added Italian sausage and basil. We got plenty of basil but the sausages was a little bit skimpy for it being a large pizza. We probably only had 20 little morsels of sausage on the pizza. We also asked for it to be extra crispy since it can you get soft in the middle on large pizzas which they did well. We had been there for dinner before (and I absolutely love the bruschetta) but we didn't realize at lunch you order at the counter. This week girl behind the counter let me taste test a few beers and we decided on Brooklyn draft. It was very good and went well with my pizza. The only issue with not having a waitress is we both would have ordered another beer if someone would've just asked and we didn't feel like walking back up to the counter standing in line. We were seated in the back of the restaurant so couldn't really see the crowd at the front anyway. Generally a nice atmosphere and although it is raining it did look like the outside patio would be nice place to sit on a sunny afternoon. We will be back. read more
