Tom was great. I called him and a few other companies for quotes on a stairlift for my mother's home in Annapolis. Tom was very informative. He helped me understand my options and even helped me get better quotes from the other vendors. Ultimately we went with a used machine. O'Neil Stairlifts offered a lower price on a newer machine with a longer service warranty. Tom did the installation himself. He stayed longer to make adjustments on the machine and ensure my mother was comfortable. read more

THIS IS ONLY AN ACORN REVIEW. I have been advised to do this. paid $15,000.00 for a lift. Did not work the first day and and requested it removed. Within a week from payment to an attempt to repair I asked to remove. After weeks of stalling stating they would evaluate they said NO. Out all the money and a danger because the bar with sharp corners extends acrloss the doorway. many bumps and bleeding. We have had to consult a lawyer. They are rude and just state no. We are in our 80's and it is a clear example of elder abuse by dismissing our concerns of the dangers. it is difficult to get working and has sharp corners that causes blRedding when bumped. I contacted O'Neill Stairlifts to get information on a stair lift for my 3 story home in DC. I explained my situation and Tom offered me expert advice on what I would need. He provided me a quote and answered my questions. When I chose O'Neill Stairlifts, Tom personally came and did the install. The chair is amazing, and Tom was very professional and took the time to explain to me the workings of the stair lift. It doesn't take up much room, and I am extremely pleased. Tom walked me through everything I needed to know. I definitely recommend O'Neill Stairlifts! The price is lower than I expected and lower than other companies I contacted. A wonderful company, ran by someone that cares about the needs of elderly people. read more

I wholeheartedly recommend O'Neill Stairlifts. Tom O'Neill came this morning to my parents' home in Vienna to install a lift so that my elderly parents could go safely from the main floor to the basement and back again. Tom installed a new lift in a matter of hours and even reinforced the existing handrail which had been improperly installed. He took the time to have my mom try it out and explained how everything worked. Tom answered all of our questions and was very down-to-earth, telling us to call him if we had any issues. Everything was done at a fair price, and we are extremely happy with our decision. If you need a stairlift for your loved one, O'Neill Stairlifts will not disappoint you. Thank you, Tom!! read more

Tom is absolutely wonderful. He is an expert in what he does and is especially thoughtful. He took the time to understand why we needed a chairlift and talked us through the whole process. He came within 48 hours of our call and installed the chairlift himself a few days later (and even apologized that he couldn't come sooner). As other reviewers have mentioned, he genuinely cares about helping his customers. His work is excellent and his pricing is very reasonable. We are glad to have found him and grateful for his help. read more

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!! My grandmother recently moved in with us and we needed to install a stairlift to assist her in navigating our home. After doing a lot of research on brands and companies, we discovered Tom O'Neill and installed a Bruno lift. Working with Tom was an absolute pleasure; he made us feel very comfortable and took time explaining every detail. Tom felt like a concerned family member, not a salesman. I would highly recommend Tom O'Neill to anyone who needs a stairlift in their home. We are very grateful to Tom for making my grandmother's transition seamless. Grandma is able to easily operate the chair and thinks it is very "cool!" She loves riding upstairs to visit us for movie night and still has the freedom to move up and down without assistance. Other family members who have seen this new chair think it looks and operates so much better than another brand, which she had in her old house in New York. I would never think a stairlift would "look good," but it really does! She LOVES her new apartment in Maryland! read more

Tom installed a stair lift for my elderly father. He took great care in adapting the rail to what seemed to be a straightforward installation. Tom's thoughtful approach meant that the lift was not creating any tripping hazards. My father says he should have had this done years ago. Best service ever! I have a really narrow set of steps from the basement up to the living area. Not only that but there is a turn when you get to the top. Tom took precise measurements and was able to install a step lift that should have been impossible to do! He adjusted the height to make it an easy on/off and explained the workings of it until I understood! I am so glad he came recommended from a friend, and I have already spread the word to my friends! He responded quickly to my calls and was punctual. You won't find a better company! If I could give more stars I would!!! read more

I called O'Neill Stairlifts several days after having an ankle replacement. Tom O'Neill could not have been kinder and more responsive. He came out to our home that afternoon, talked options with my husband. He then came the next day and personally installed our Bruno lift, coming back the next morning to tweak it. My life changed for the better immediately being able to come down from my bedroom to our family room with ease. I can't recommend this company more highly. It is so apparent that Tom O'Neill really cares about helping his customers. read more

Five years ago I became an above knee amputee - I was 70 years old at the time. I started thinking of a stairlift when it became harder to manipulate the stairs when I wasn't wearing my prosthetic limb. After getting estimates, listening to sales pitches and getting a bit frustrated - I came across O'Neill Stairlifts. Tom came to the house, gave a great presentation, prices were very fair and then said he just received a "used stairlift" and the price was "outstanding". He delivered and installed, along with the electrical, himself and did an outstanding job. It was in excellent condition. Three weeks after installation, it died. He came right out, tested it and found the computer board was gone. He replaced it and we were back in business. What can I say about Tom: He is my "new best friend" with legs. He has something that is a rarity in today's world - integrity. I have given his cards to my "senior friends" and have passed his name on to friends in the real estate business. He is a great guy. read more

I chose O'Neill Stairlifts to install a stairlift on an L-shape stair in December 2017. The installation went smoothly and Tom has been great about coming to the house when I had minor issues that needed service. Unlike other companies, Tom doesn't push service contracts and he willingly provides instruction on how to maintain the lift if you wish to do so. In the past few months, the lift developed a intermittent problem with the safety switches and Tom came over the same day I called. His approach to service is to carefully analyze the problem and not just replace parts unless needed. This saves money and gets the lift working as quickly as possible. If you are thinking of installing a stair or wheelchair lift, make sure to contact Tom. read more

I am enthusiastic in making a five star recommendation for O'Neill Stairlifts. In March of 2017, Mr O'Neill rescued me in my time of need. Reading reviews on Yelp made our decision to use O'Neill Stairlifts, and we couldn't be happier. Tom O'Neill came within a couple of days after we called, explained all about the product and the price. No funny business with O'Neill - he's a no nonsense, knowledgeable, interesting and kind man. He was able to install the stairlift within a few days and it's a great product. Both O'Neill and the product made us feel secure and comfortable. He's a hard worker who knows his business, and more. A 5 star recommendation for O'Neill. read more

Quick Summary: for less than $20k I got two stairlifts installed in my parent's house and very glad I did not try a DIY job, comforted I paid a little more and had O'Neill rather than less experienced company take on the work, and I say you can't help rooting for someone like Tom and his company. Lots to say on O'Neil Stairlifts (ONS) and getting a stairlift for loved ones in general: Buyer Background Estimates/Install ONS vs. DIY After Completion Follow-up; (stairlift/no-stairlift decision hindsight) Buyer Background: I'm a young guy with decent handyman skills and wanted to get either an elevator or stairlift for my elder 300+lb father. I have been land lording for my parents for years and have experience buying and overseeing moderate sized projects, contractors, etc. I thought about buying a used rig and trying to install it myself or plunking down ~$100k for a major elevator renovation My father insisted he did not need one (however me and my brothers thought he needed one) and was at first very apprehensive about us looking into this. Estimates/Install Estimates: I got a couple estimates for my parent's house for not only elevator vs. stairlift but also from a couple Bruno authorized dealers. In the end the price range between the most expensive estimate and the cheapest was very tight. Probably not worth the hassle of getting a bunch of price quotes. I ended up going with ONS even though they were not the cheapest. Why? I determined that two of the estimates came from experienced installers and wanted this done right. ONS was one of them and since was the most local went with them. Actual Install/Quality: really A+ install job. I took off work and watched the entire process and was not disappointed with choosing ONS rather than one of the slightly less expensive estimates. I was lucky Tom O'Neill was actually on both days of the install and did a lot of customization work that I don't think I or the lesser estimates could have done. The install was very demanding because the lower stairs are long, steep, narrow, and the door closes in a funny way at the top. Requires some exactitude measuring and great conception of space to get the lift properly installed to be able to close the top door and properly operate with 300+lb user. ONS made some custom blocks and woodwork to make sure the lift was even more stable than with the Bruno-factory adjustable risers. The upper level left was a curve custom rail and also required some work to get electrical aspects to neatly work out with the houses (~1984-build) more limited electrical outlets etc. On the first day install of the lower level, after several hours and nearing dinner/rush-hour traffic ONS is wrapping up the final testing/tweaking of the lower unit. Amazingly Tom spent almost another hour re-installing the handrail, that had been removed from the lift-side wall, on the facing wall and making sure it was level, secure, and solidly done. Amazing because this was definitely extra work outside the contract terms, at the end of the day when Tom's gotta be hungry and want to get home etc. The 2nd half of the install was for a custom-fabricated rail approximately a month later. Tom and a teammate did a full day install and Tom was great technically and also to his team and listening to my Dad yammer on about this/that periodically. ONS vs. DIY: I have installed a chairlift on my parent's SUV, hand hold poles and grips in their bathroom, have removed old toilets, installed new ones, re-attached drop sinks, fixed basic electrical problems etc..af. and after seeing the actual ONS install I'm pleased I did not try to DIY this. Follow-up/after thoughts: Overall glad we got a stairlift and done with ONS. We were not sure if stairlift would remove last bits of exercise my father really gets (struggling up/down stairs) or open up his word. It's helped a lot. He spends less time holed up downstairs watching tv and now, surprisingly, drinks less because he can quit the basement bar and ride upstairs to bed at a normal time. Before he'd get downstairs and then say 'screw it, I'm down here and it's going to be such a hassle to get back up, I might as well keep drinking and watching tv rest of the night...'. Your parents my not ask for one, may object to getting one, but when they've got one it really helps them do more, live with ease, and remove some worry about elderly falling down stairs or having to cary them up/down because they're in too much pain (I'd done this with my grandparents ~20 years ago). If you're on the fence: get the stairlift, go with ONS if you're looking at them. read more

Tom O'Neill came to my house today to install a stairlift for my elderly parents, who are moving in with me in a few days. It was an excellent experience from beginning to end, and working with Tom was a great pleasure. First, I found Tom (based on the Yelp reviews) two days before a two week business trip. I needed to place an order before the trip so that the stairlift would be ready when my parents moved in. He came the following day (a Saturday) and took more than two hours answering all my questions, making what turned out to be all the right recommendations for building a custom stairlift in the context of difficult stairs (narrow, double turn stairs in a townhouse), and then making the measurements (now done through a cool method using digital photos) and uploading them to Bruno via the Web. The stairlift was ready to be installed sooner than expected. Tom was not satisfied until all the measurements were correct and the stairlift was working perfectly. My parents came by with their caregiver near the end of the installation, and Tom stayed to instruct all of them on the proper use of the stairlift. They were thrilled with the results as they rode for the first time, which made me one satisfied customer. In summary, the quality of the work is reason enough to go with O'Neill Stairlifts, but Tom's professionalism, experience, knowledge, dedication, and kindness made for a wonderful experience. read more

Tom O'Neill is a gem! I was put in charge of selecting a stairlift for my elderly (92 and 89) aunts who did not want to leave their home of 65 years in NW DC. I had two companies come to their house to measure and discuss options. Tom was not only the lower (by far) of the two, but he was the one who put my aunts' minds at ease. Installation was scheduled at our convenience, and performed by Tom himself quickly and quietly. His tutorial on how to use it was geared just right for these ladies. They'll be talking him up to their friends for years to come! I will be recommending him wholeheartedly to whomever needs this service! read more

If you in the Northern Virginia, Washington DC or Maryland area and are in the market for a stairlift, talk to Tom before you purchase a stairlift from anywhere else. Don't be fooled by internet hucksters willing to sell you a unit for unbelievable low prices...they offer those prices because you'll receive unbelievable poor customer service and potentially shoddy installation/checkout/fine tuning of the safety stops. To be clear, these are not plug and play...not everyone has the training and/or experience to install them correctly and adjust your system perfectly. O'Neill Stairlifts is who you want to do business with. I contacted six local companies to talk about a stairlift solution for my home. Three offered free in-home estimates (including O'Neill Stairlifts) and three simply listed a price for "a" system over the phone without even asking for any details. When I asked for alternative options and associated prices they were dismissive and insisted "this" was the system I wanted and it was their most popular unit and left me feeling like I shouldn't be questioning their expertise. I had to force them to give me prices of their other options/units. I never called any of these three back again. I invited the other three out to do their free estimates. Two of the three pushed hard to upsell me on more pricey units that I didn't need (even after they even said the basic model would be perfect for my situation) and tried to shame me into buying deluxe models by insinuating I didn't care enough for the family member who would be using the system if I didn't go with their proposed upgrades. Why did I go with Tom and O'Neill Stairlifts? 1. He never tried to upsell me. In fact, he offered simple solutions to some of the challenges in my house that I could solve without his help...at no extra cost. 2. He offered a price that was nearly between $400 and $500 cheaper than any of the other five (and three others were dealing with the same make/model and all claimed there was no way they could go any cheaper). 3. O'Neill Stairlifts actually performs service if the unit ever needs it. To be clear, I'm talking about actually fixing the unit if it has an issue and not slapping it a few times and automatically telling you it can't be fixed and you need to purchase a new system. 4. This a local shop that's been around a long time serving this area...I prefer supporting local small business. 5. Customer service has been on top of their game from the first time I called them. I always got prompt responses to my calls and questions and never got the run around...not even once. 6. Professionalism: Tom is a professional. He's not going to hype himself and talk down on any other company. He's going to listen to your needs, offer his best advice, answer your questions, and execute the kind of service we all wish we could see when we enter into a business relationship. 7. On top of all of this and maybe most important to me, I actually felt I could trust Tom and his recommendations during our initial meeting when he did our estimate. I knew when I entered into the search for this service I was looking for someone/someplace I would have a relationship with as I knew this stairlift would be in my home for the next 10+ years. I wanted to know that when I called for help down the road I wouldn't hear crickets on the other end of the phone, I didn't want to be told to call someone else and I didn't ever want to feel like I was being taken advantage of. Tom gave me the impression I was looking for and that impression grew stronger during the time he was at the house doing the install. So, I found a local Team I can trust, with great customer service and great professionals who are willing to listen to my needs and help me buy what I need instead of what they want me to buy...and oh, by the way...they were much cheaper than the competition. Call O'Neill Stairlifts first and don't bother with the disappointment or frustration you'll face with the others in NOVA region. read more

Tom installed the stairlift in our home. He provided excellent service, consultation and support.

We live in Arlington VA and went to O'Neill Stairlifts based on the recommendation of a neighbor. We ordered the standard Bruno lift, which took only 2 - 3 hours to install. The procedure went perfectly and the lift operates beautifully. We liked it so much that a few months later we ordered the Bruno premier version for our upstairs staircase. I can't tell you how much easier my life is since installing these lifts. Tom O'Neill did the install and he is a perfect gem. Fast, very competent, and very friendly. If you need a stairlift then, believe me you need Tom O'Neill. The price is fair and competitive and I strongly recommend this product and this company. read more

We highly recommend O'Neill Stairlifts. We met with Mr. O'Neill who came to our home to give us an estimate and recommend the best machine that would fit our style of stairs. Excellent experience. I found Tom on yelp. He was one of 4 bids we got (three of which were very close in price. the 4th would not give my wife a quote ?:(??). It turned out we needed the lift sooner than expected and Tom was able to fit us in at the end of the day just two days after we called him! We were the last appointment of the day scheduled for 3:30. His office called to say he was running a half hour late and he arrived at 4:00. (I have had many contractors for other things just bail on the last customer of the day when running late, but Tom kept his word and got the installation done) He installed the lift himself (no sub contractor) and stayed to make sure my mother in law was comfortable using the lift. I had done a lot of research on lifts and everything he said and recommended was consistent with what I had found. It was such a pleasure to find a no nonsense straight shooting contractor. As others on Yelp have done, I give him my highest recommendation. We very recently made the decision to install a stairlift. We were contacted by O'Neill stairlift after filling out an Internet inquiry. Tom was extremely thorough in explaining the various options and prices to my wife, who will be the user of the lift. We made the decision to go with O'Neill Stairlifts and we were working to come up with a mutually available date for installation. Between our travel plans and Tom's vacation plans, we could not find a good date until early September. Tom asked us to give him a day to see if things could be rearranged. He called yesterday morning and said that if we would be available in the afternoon, he could do the installation. He did it and we now have a perfectly operating stairlift system. O'Neill Stairlifts could not have been more accommodating or more professional. We felt like he always had our best interest in mind and was concerned about our needs. We can not more strongly recommend O'Neill Stairlifts. They have been a complete joy with which to work. Please do yourself a favor and contact them. We are in Annapolis, not DC. read more
