This restaurant offers, mainly, 'New York style' burgers and hot dogs - the menu pretty extensive with various amazing sounding burger/hot dog fillings. It took me quite a while to pick and when I did eventually choose I went with one of the burgers on the specials board - the 'Colonel Who?' which was a southern fried chicken breast, cheese, hash browns, cajun mayo, salsa and pickle. The presentation of the food was fine, nothing special but appetising. The same for flavour, the burger was good but nothing to call home about. The salsa wasn't the small accompaniment I had envisaged, the burger was totally smothered in the salsa which meant I couldn't taste the other components of the burger. I was quite looking forward to the cajun mayo, but I couldn't really taste it. The chicken was great though. A lovely grilled piece of chicken which had then been covered in bread crumbs and crisped to a perfect crunch.
The fries were standard and I was secretly horrified that there was a 50p charge for mayo (yeah I'm a proper penny pincher) - I'm pretty sure in this day and age mayonnaise is a basic condiment that should be on offer, especially where chips and fries are concerned. My partner had the 'Notorious P.I.G' hot dog for his main which tasted scrummy - smokey sausage wrapped in cripsy bacon with sweet pulled pork on top. I was a bit gutted that wasn't what I'd ordered to be honest! Should have made him swap haha.
To accompany my meal I had the Empire Daiquiri and really enjoyed it! The drink was a frozen cocktail which consisted of Angostura Reserva Rum, lime, strawberries, raspberries and passion fruit. Wonderfully refreshing and reminded me of a very similar cocktail I had at the Hard Rock Cafe on my last visit to New York. I can't say the food reminded me of New York though, if I'm honest.
The service was spectacular here - Erin is a real credit to the restaurant. Her personality was lovely, very friendly and attentive. Nothing seemed too much trouble and she was completely on the ball. My only real gripe of the evening was how loud the music was - we were literally shouting to hear one another, at 6pm in the evening there's no need... crank the music up when the evening has progressed a bit.
Would I go back? Absolutely! Service is great and I really liked the sound of the cocktail menu. The restaurant also has various offer nights, so I would probably choose to dine on one of these nights in the future. read more
