Vastly changed and improved, well except for the toilets which are better but still not the best. It's a great, modern, cavernous place now they've opened up the rafters. Great beer options, try the wheat Rothaus tap apparently it's unique in Scotland. A good cocktail menu. Decent food options. A new crowd that should keep this place buzzing and really enthusiastic staff, I liked this place since it first opened.
This time we were here to try the food though, and test the beer again - yes it's still fantastic. It's a fairly basic menu, mostly burgers and pizzas, but with a few curves, for example a deep-fried Mars bar dessert. I went for chicken pakora to start, my partner went for mussels in a harissa sauce, and I went for imaginatively titled "Please To Meat You" pizza, with parma ham added as an option. I can't honestly remember what the other two had for the rest of their courses, but we all had the same opinion about the food.
The pakora was lovely, it was in small pieces but the batter was nice, if very slightly overdone. It honestly tasted about as good as any pakora I've had, and the slight extra-crispness was no bad thing at all. The sauce was creamy, tasty and light pink as all the best pakora sauce tends to be. The pizza was a little on the small side, but I was impressed enough by the generous meaty toppings. There was a bit of a paucity of cheese and sauce, but it wasn't dry at all and that is my main bugbear with pizza. It was juicy (oily, but in a good way) and had only a few strategically placed rounds of mozzarella, but the variety of each mouthful made for a very enjoyable, if slightly messy, lunch. read more
