Four of us had dinner and drinks. Great food and drinks. Very laid back pub atmosphere. The staff was also super friendly.

Taking tourists to the Griffin is always a worthwhile experience. Firstly, they love the traditional pub frontage, with the elaborate design emphasising the fact this is one of the city's oldest bars. They love the fact that it is spread over three grand rooms, with the traditional horseshoe-shaped bar adding to the old fashioned, classical feel. And oh how they laugh when they discover the "Glasgow Salad" advertised on the menu is, in actual fact, a bowl of chips. But apart from anything else, this is a bar worth introducing to anybody for the simple reason it is one of the best in the city centre. Situated across from the King's Theatre, it's ideally placed for a night out in either Bath Street or Sauchiehall Street, particularly because it's far enough away from the most popular stretches that you're unlikely to be bothered by hen or stag party crowds. Since coming under new ownership, the bar has been restored to its former glory and now offers perhaps the best pub food in the area, particularly in terms of the astonishing portion sizes.

Aww I love myself a wee drink at the Griffin! It's one of Glasgow's more classic and understated pubs. Simple pub decor, nice and warm, huge bar, and loads of cosy booths. It seems small at first glance but they use mirrors well to make it seem that little bit bigger while maintaining a homey vibe. It isn't necessarily the cheapest pub in the area, but it more than redeems itself in charm and good service. Being right across from the King's Theatre, it attracts a good crowd. You can't beat it for a quiet after dinner drink. Lovely!

The Griffin is one of the nicest pubs in this part of town: just off Sauchiehall Street, it attracts a slightly more mature crowd, which makes it friendlier and more relaxed, even though it still gets fairly busy. About five years ago, it was on the of the hipper bars in Glasgow: slightly old fashioned, but close enough to the theatres and Art School to atract a trendy crowd. Varius refits later, it doesn't have the same cachet, but remains a good place for a pint and blather. The various entrances can be confusing, but it breaks the pub into a series of smaller rooms: this accounts for the intimate atmosphere. Fair prices and a warm welcome: another good Glasgow pub that escapes the madcap chaos of a night out on Sauchiehall Street.

Another lovely wooden Glasgow pub. Very cozy seating booths and a decent selection of beers.

It's cozy, crowded, and buzzing with life -- often standing room only and packed shoulder-to-shoulder with locals and travelers alike. If you're a whisky fan (or even just whisky-curious), do yourself a favor and try one of their Scotland whisky flights. It's like taking a mini tour of the country's whisky regions without ever leaving your barstool -- and without worrying about driving. The bartenders really know their stuff and are happy to guide you toward something you'll love. A quick heads-up: no football colors allowed, which keeps the atmosphere friendly and relaxed no matter who you support. And speaking of friendly -- the locals here are as welcoming as they come. This is exactly the kind of place where Scotland's famous pub culture shines. Prices are surprisingly reasonable too, so you can sample a few drams without feeling guilty. Whether you're a seasoned whisky nerd or just looking to experience the local vibe, this is the spot. Pull up a stool (if you can find one) and enjoy a proper Scottish night out

Their selection is so huge they don't have a menu, you just have to ask for your label or take their recommendations. Naturally, most of the selection is Scottish whiskey, but if you somehow prefer otherwise, (say you are a local tired of Scotch... or just want to reaffirm nothing beats a Scotch?) they do offer whiskey from other countries, as well as beer and ciders, as well as gin, rum and the like. They do offer pies and other bar food, but we went after dinner and just couldn't stomach more food, tempting as they may sound.

They apparently have free wifi which I didn't try on this occasion (I mostly just tether from my own phone), the staff are friendly and the music was perfectly fine. Good location to stop on your way back from Kelvingrove's Art Gallery and Museum. We walked from the museum to the pub without any problems. It's nice on the inside. There are some tables and the bar is at the center with a nice display of alcohol both on tap and on the walls. Beer: there was large selection of beer and liquor to choose from. I was looking for a good stout and the bartender, Andrew gave me some really good recommendations. I settled on the Overtone Milk that he recommended and it did not disappoint. It was smooth, full bodied, and flavorful. Nice chocolate flavor with a hint of smokiness to it. My husband got the Drygate IPA and it was crisp and hoppy. Service: I always look for good conversation, attentiveness, kindness, and whether or not the server and or bartender was knowledgeable about what they're serving. Our bartender Andrew was all of the above. He was so welcoming, and my husband and I enjoyed the great conversation With him. He knew a lot about the selection of beers and whiskey, where it came from, and who it came from, so that was wonderful! Thank you Andrew for a great experience. We hope we can stop by again while we're still in Glasgow.
