Let me start by stating this isn't the kind of pub I would usually choose to frequent. Absolutely nothing to do with it being an Irish pub (although I'm not a big fan of 'themed' pubs as such, unless it's a quirky/less obvious theme like a cat pub. Ooh,I would LOVE a cat themed pub!) it's more to do with the 'Sports Bar' element. Again, I wouldn't choose to drink in a sports bar when there are FAR nicer 'non-sports' bars in Glasgow. We basically ended up here because everywhere else this particular evening was mobbed. Wah.
Let me be nice and start with the good points:
*Tables! They still have seats when other places are busy. (Bonus when you're in dire need of a cold beverage and everywhere else is stowed)
*The black stuff! If you're a fan of Guinness they serve many types (inc.a lager style beer). None will ever be as truly good as the Guinness you get served in actual Ireland but still, they can't help that.
*Snacks! If you like your bar snacks they sell proper Irish, Tayto, crisps & hot food such as Nachos & Loaded Potato Wedges with Cheese & Bacon for £3.50 (which Elizabeth had & again they were nice).
*Irish bar staff! I would hazard a guess that 90% of their bar staff are actually Irish. Along with that comes the beautiful Irish accent. (S'nice. Talk about crisps & Guinness some more Mr.Barman, hehee!)
*(A)Live music! They occasionally have live (Irish?) music here.
Now, the not so good thangs:
*Hurty Ears! The LOUDNESS of the music in the bar combined with the loud patrons made it really difficult to hear what my drinking buddies were saying. Hmph. Not cool.
*Dull Beer! Nothing particularly exciting in the draft beer selection...a pretty uninspiring assortment.
*SPORTS! It's a 'Sports Bar' therefore you run the risk of entering on a match day/time and along with that you have to contend with all the groups of drunken, loud sports fans. Ugh.
*Meh! It's nowt special. Being old school pub in style is no bad thing mind, but this being a fairly new pub it lacks that certain suttin-suttin that makes an old style pub like this any good.
I doubt I will ever darken their doorstep again unless like last time it's because everywhere else in the area of town is super busy but even then I would probably rather walk a bit further to find somewhere else with a bit nicer atmosphere & beer selection. I may just have to kidnap one of the lovely Irish barmen from here to serve me & speak to me all night though *Muhahaha!*
As Alan Partridge would say 'There's more to Ireland dan dis.' even if *slightly* offensive it still kinda applies very nicely to this place. read more
