When the salesman was selling me a system I had specifically told him that I wasn't staying here for 15 yes and I would have to transfer this system to the new homeowner and they swore to me that everything would transfer over to new owner when that time came. Now that time is coming and now I'm told I can't do that that I would have to force the new owner to get an even bigger mortgage to fund the panels on top of my house. Had I known the problems I never would've installed. They lied about the tax credit that I could never get in the time frame that they said I would. Nothing has been good about this experience. Absolutely no customer service. After a 5 month delay because of an expired permit due to not having my system inspected I had a standby battery installed February 3 2025. My whole system was then down for 3 weeks because of a required fuse that was not available. To my horror after they got the system functioning it is sending 70% of the generated power back to the grid. I have been calling, texting, and emailing with no response and no resolution. I spent in the high 5 figures to have this solar system installed, yet I am incurring electric bills over $500.00. A horrible experience and a total rip off.​ read more

6/30/2025 . Spoke to Bryce on multiple occasions . We have been calling for almost 2 weeks daily and emailing for a service to remove the panels to get a new roof and reinstall. We get the runaround with no answer . I don't understand what the big deal is!! The panels work fine but the customer service is garbage . Not acceptable and we're stuck trying to get a new roof and we can't ! Not to mention their inspector told us less than 2 years ago that we wouldn't need a new roof when we asked specifically. Police came to jobsite, report was filed when your worker came on my property and threatened me. Stay away from this company. Had solar installed on 1/26/24 was activated at the end of February it work for one mo th badly it totally broke down in April 4 24 . I had known idea it wasn't working. Nobody informed us of the problem. All summer i getting high electric bills try calling company then sales men never receive a call back . Then my bill would go down about $20 a month if we conserved. Now their trying to sue me for $28,000. I have no solar panels. No one installed anything. DO NOT USE NY STATE SOLAR We were promised a dream and have been dealing with a nightmare. Our system goes down- alllll the time. It just stops communicating. NY State Solar says it's our WiFi. I work from home. At one point my husband was working from home, as well. Trust me, it's not my WiFi. They are unreliable, dishonest, and are only after the sale. They wine and dine you and get you to believe they'll always be around. After you've signed the contract, don't expect any more calls. My husband had to write a nasty email and threaten to take it to their CEO and the BBB. They "fixed" the issue on more than one occasion and it just keeps happening. "Buyer beware" I cancelled my contract with NYSS because of all of their lies and to find out I now have a 30,000 dollar mechanic's lien on my home with no solar on my roof. They give you a 37 page contract to look at with nothing that is good for the consumer and all is good for the sales person and the company. Their finance company is Mosaic finance. Look on their web page for their reviews. Their reviews are bad, they have a total of 140 complaints. Also their salesperson who's name was Franklin who was not at all professional and would not recommend him or the company. read more

I was a huge fan start to finish concerning the NYS Solar program. Frankly, I was initially dismissive of all the solar guys that came to my door. That said, I was willing to talk to Chris Wen when he came by. Very genuine, and clearly a great guy; and definitely a huge solar nerd. He answered a ton of questions from me over the next couple of weeks to the point where I was completely confident that I'd be saving money and that the service would be accommodating and trustworthy. As it turned out, the installation was fast, the work was good and everything worked out exactly as he said it would. I'm now seven or so month in and I actively check out my energy inflows and outflows as its fun to see how much I'm saving from having the panels. Highly recommended. I just had my solar panels installed yesterday by NYSS and I can't even emphasis on how well the process went! I mean from day one my Project Manager 'Farah' guided me to each and every step reassuring and answering each in every question of mine.She went above and beyond my expectations for a saleswoman.Im so glad to have met her and agreed to understand solar as I had no clue to what it actually was and how it would operate. I love how Farah never got annoyed with my constant inquires day after day with weird questions that would just come up into my mind in regards to solar. I dont usually see women in this field working so hard and upon our first meeting I felt a sense of relief and knew that I had met a wonderful soul who was actually concerned about my electric bill and would do anything to make sure that I would get the best of best. My wife and I began talking to New York State Solar in Jan 2020. During our preliminary talks with our salesperson, Jack Aranya, we told them we would be dormering and adding a second floor to our home within the next few years. We asked what the costs involved would be if we had the solar panels installed pre-dormer and then needed them removed and replaced for our dormer. We were told it would simply be the cost of labor, and a figure of around $5,000 was quoted. Upon our install in Feb 2020, we repeated the same question to the foreman at our install. Again, my wife and I were told around $5,000. In July 2022 we started to move forward with the dormer and we began calling to get a quote and to speak to a manager, supervisor or my salesperson. I have called no less than 10 times between then and the present asking to speak with a manager, supervisor or my salesperson. Each time someone took down my information or left a note and told me someone would call me back. I still have not received a call back to this day from one. In September 2022, I received a call from another solar contractor, Marcor, that NYSS passed my inquiry and quote request over to, without telling me. So a different company I've never had any contact with has called me back before NYSS has. Marcor came back with a quote for $17,000. More than triple what NYSS had quoted me or what I reasonably expected. Something seemed incredibly wrong, so I reached back out to NYSS. I called NYSS to get a quote and try to understand why the number I received was so wildly different from what I was told. I called asking for someone who could assist me, but no one was ever available and ended up leaving messages with the reception and asking for a call back from a manager, supervisor or my salesperson. Only after tweeting at New York State Solar on Twitter and emailing my salesperson did I finally have some interaction. Unbelievably, the Twitter account told me "it's unusual that a message wasn't passed along, so we'll look into what happened" and to call, which has previously gotten us nowhere. My salesperson got back to us via email, completely unaware of any of my issues so I guess communication isn't the strong suit over there. I explained the entire situation in my email to him. He told me he would look into it. 3 days later I still hadn't heard anything, so I emailed my salesperson back for an update, he responded that the Operations Manager, Lauren Mohan, said it's $14,000 which is triple the cost of what they told me and 60% of the original solar purchase and install. He also didn't even acknowledge the hard time I've been having getting in touch with them or that they misled me on the costs. I replied, reiterating how unacceptable that cost is and asking them to do the right thing and honor the price they misled me with or at least meet me somewhere in the middle. I receive a call from my salesperson telling me they will not budge on the price. They put him in the middle to do the dirty work and don't even have the decency to contact me directly. He threw the whole company under the bus, basically said they are ripping me off and it should be closer to $9,000. This is legitimately the worst company I have ever worked with. This is horrendous customer service and makes me feel as if your company made the sale and now doesn't care. It doesn't seem like you guys are holding up your end of the contract. I would have held off until after I renovated my home for these solar panels had I known it was essentially going to cost 60% of the initial installation. You guys put me in a situation where you benefitted by me having to pay for an entire additional project with you so you can make money off of me twice. You're going around door-to-door pushing new homeowners and young couples into buying Solar from you with the NYS tax incentive and misleading them about future costs involved. He went on about the great company and their wonderful installation process and how the panels are USA made and there is no upfront cost and I would save tons of money. NOT once did he mention the NYSERDA loan that is needed to finance the equipment and installation! NOT once did he mention that if my house is sold, the loan is NOT transferable and that I would remain responsible for the balance of the loan! NOT ONCE WAS A LOAN MENTIONED AT ALL!!!!!!! What really grinds my corn is when a salesperson is so myopic about getting a commission, they will simply say ANYTHING no matter how far removed from the truth! Beware of NYS Solar. This company uses deceptive unscrupulous tactics. #1 red flag is the name- sounds like official NY State government Solar website. First NYS Solar salesman says that you will get "free electricity" with all the "tax breaks & incentives". Then you get a price for Solar Panels. ($35k -45k depending on roof size). Then after NYS Solar says you need a new roof installed (anything older than 7 years old requires New Roof). Their roof contractor will charge another $11k-15k just roofing. Mind you it doesn't include new soffits & gutters- that would cost an extra $3k-5k. Last May 2022 I began dealing with NYS Solar. Now in my case after NYS Solar added cost of new roof I was already worried. When I read the roof contractor work order total it was only partial -just roofing. I immediately researched and saw that most all roofing contractors install new soffits and gutters free as it is part of a professional roof replacement project. NYS Solar contractor refused to include the aforementioned soffits and gutters unless I paid a few thousand more. The situation kept getting worse, so I immediately canceled project because NYS Solar was charging me more for a correct complete professional roof replacement & refused to help absorb or defer the added costs. NYS Solar immediately calls & send me a bill for $10,000 for work done. I responded that nothing has been done at all- not 1 screw has been used. NYSS says they will enforce Lien on my house. So no matter what I do I must pay they say. So under extreme duress I'm forced to sign new contract with added roof costs-soffits, gutters and critter guards. Last week (3/6/23) after almost 1 year- NYS Solar calls me & says Work Permits finally approved. Since almost 1 year passed- all materials are considerably more expensive & of course interest rates have raised 2x-3x more than original rate. I was looking at a $35,000- 40,000 additional. This is outrageous- it was not my fault that Work Permit took almost 1 year & that everything- materials & funding skyrocketed . This is unlawful unreasonable unfair. NYS Solar wants to illegally enforce Lien when absolutely Nothing was done. Anybody can invent false statements invoices. NYS Solar offered "Free Solar- Free Electricity"- in reality was $75,000-85,000 loan bill. As a senior 56 year old trying to recover from debilitating shoulder & arm surgery just trying to survive I advise Everyone to beware if you ever decide to do business with NYS Solar. read more

Alex Lubin came by my house and offered me a quote. I mentioned I wasnt really interested. He insisted that it would be really cheap and I should show him an electrical bill and he will give me a quote. Little did I know, I was dealing with a liar and a company that wont stand behind their salespersons mess up! I followed up with a "partner" of the company Reid Garton, who promised to make things right. Initially I was hopeful, but months after not rectifying anything I gave up. Do not go with NYSS. I wish I'd read the reviews of this company before signing. Once the contract was signed and the money paid, I never heard from anyone there again. I call them literally every single week to have them finish since December and NOBODY EVER CALLS BACK. My sales rep, Frank Misti, gave me a number (cell) and when I called it, learned he never set up the mail box and you cannot leave a message. There are two issues with the panels, but the worst was that they promised me (part of the contract) that I would have all of my thermostats replaced with NEST thermostats. They have NEVER delivered them, never called about setting up a time. I call every week and the worst thing is that I didn't buy them when they were on sale at my local hardware store because I was supposed to be receiving them. Oh yes, It's also written in my contract. UPDATE: the regional manager of all of NY state called me personally. He was mortified and told me he would rectify the situation.. he then called again and bought me 3 of the most expensive model thermostat, and is having them hand delivered to me tomorrow. Made an appointment with Jim of NY State Solar in East Meadow, left my cell phone, email etc. Was told if there was any issues I'd get a call, text, email etc. Wife and i waited for over an hour for no one to show. Called company and at first was told they just spoke to salesman and there were no issues or problems but had no idea why no one came by, then they needed to see who was suplosed to be here. Then told they dont treat customers like this even though they did. The presentation of the salesman was good but controversial because if this program is not a lease or a PPA program, then what is it? besides I do not see the savings with all the incentives from federal and NY state. If my roof produces 7300 KW a year [the first year, 1% degradation every year] and the total use I have x year is 15200KW [ i produce less that 50%] I end up paying more per month for the next 14 years because I am paying the rest of the 50% of the system solar. People make your numbers before accepting the contract , this is not for everyone. the math can be a very confusing but take you time to do it right.
