This is opening night!! Great food Chef Stephen Rojas is amazing. I had a perfectly cooked roasted Skirt Steak medium rare wanted it more on the rare side and it came out just exactly that way. A feat most top notch restaurants like Waldorf's Bull & Bear were unable to deliver after 2 attempts!! The atmosphere is cozy warm and inviting. Family owned Chef Stephen Rojas is from California and has already earned a star in the Michelin rating. Just superb to have such a talent in our own Winter Haven!! What a great little find! We came to Legoland with the kiddo & got away for a date night...this place looked good, so we gave it a try. It's in a converted little house, which gives it a cozy feeling. We had house made ricotta toast with local honey to start. It was nice & light. Then we had a beet salad, which was also yummy! We shared steak au poivre for our entree. It was also really good! It was cooked perfectly mid rare, & the cheesy potato side & creamed kale (?) were also great! My delicious lunch began with a five minute wait to acknowledge me. I ordered the open-faced steak sandwich with kale salad on the menu though the PLT (pastrami-lettuce-cherry tomatoes) special sounded wonderful too. I saw some great-looking burgers come out and later learned the waitress omitted telling me about this special. Thank goodness for sunshine, my meal wait took 25 minutes, tho' another table arriving 10 minutes later got served at the same time, so not sure my hold-up. The steak flavor and cook was ideal. I also liked the bread--however, it was difficult to cut, even with a steak knife, making the sandwich VERY messy and parts eaten separately. The shaved radish and pickled onion were nice accents. The kale with pickled mustard seed was delish tho' some leaves were very large and required cutting. Would have loved even a single slice of pear or some golden raisins on this all-green salad. I enjoyed the vanilla bean ice cream with warm bread pudding, caramel & berry compote though the bread pudding had little flavor. The waitress didn't know which berries were used. I tasted raspberries and blueberries but the large seeds had me wondering if blackberries were in it, too. This lunch was $28. I found the food flavor a "5" but the uneven wait and finer details (like bread cutting, omitting a special & the unknown berries) made it less than a perfect "5". With an elevated menu and Michelin star chef, I had high hopes. We've eaten at Nutwood twice; once for dinner and once for brunch. When we had dinner, there was an octopus appetizer that had perfectly cooked octopus, but the sauce was disconnected from the dish. The gnocchi was outstanding; light, fluffy, unreal! The marinara was perfect. The fish special was perfect. For brunch, I had the ricotta pancakes with candied walnuts and blueberry drizzle. The pancakes were delicious, but the blueberry drizzle wasn't sufficient enough to keep them from being claggy and dry. A side of lemon curd or something else "wet" would have made the dish. We also had the nova lox special and it was fantastic. Unfortunately, the inconsistency of the food doesn't make it worth the price for us. It's worth trying though! read more

All perfectly prepared, with great flavors and style. The service was excellent and the food was something from a resort hotel dinning room. I had the steak medallions and and my husband had the chicken. It was something you would not think little old Winter Haven could produce. Although the bill was very pricey we will defiantly come back to this place again. What an amazing addition to downtown Winter Haven! This great little restaurant brings that California vibe. I went there for lunch and had what was probably the best sandwich I've ever had. It was the pork belly bahn mi (Vietnamese style) on a French baguette with pickled vegetables. The servers were so friendly, and the patio is a great place to have a nice lunch and a glass of wine. Beth was amazing and was able to get us inside and reserve two rooms. Beth and her staff started serving mimosas the minute the guests walked in the door. Brunch was delicious as expected. When you come to a restaurant like this expectations need to be met. Their wines are not great and are way overpriced. Some bottles are going for $6 at the liquor store and they are selling them by 12 a glass and 36 a bottle. They were out of the IPA--it's a Friday night. the market fish was fishy and not great. The chicken dinner was horrible--slimy, chewy, unappetizing and the plate it came on was warmer than the food. Very disappointing. read more

We were celebrating my Mom's 90th Birthday and decided to go to Nutwood. Since our Mom does not eat a lot, I decided to share the chicken dinner with her. We could not eat it because it was so salty it was absolutely disgusting. We told our waitress and the only thing she did was say I am sorry, I will tell the chef. For 6 people at over $200.00 and 1 meal was un-eatable, they did not even offer to delete the cost of the $29.00 meal. I can assure you that we will never go back to Nutwood. I don't mind paying for a good meal, as long as the meal is worth it and this was not. read more
