Good service, great food, great atmosphere. Great owner. We sat down to a small table but the service was huge! Our server was upbeat and a joy to work with. The owner, Kathy, was a joy to talk with.

We enjoyed lunch. Nice menu of family favorites. Can't call them Italian due to Italian pizza joint next door (which is silly but not their fault). We felt prices were higher than the food was fabulous. It was good, just not "good value". Example $23 for a lunch grilled chicken. Returning will be occasional rather than regular. They have some nice twists on meals. They make a big deal about their blend of cheese (over-mentioning it in the menu), but we didn't taste a difference. We wish them well.

Pork tenderloin w/upgrade to onion rings

Wife and I visited for lunch. She had the grilled cheese melt (3 kinds of cheese, bacon & tomato on sourdough) and I had the pork tenderloin sandwich & upgraded to onion rings. Both were tasty & filling. I was expecting a very thin twice the size of the bun tenderloin as popular in Central IL. The St. Louis style was thicker and had a different batter. I would order again. We will visit for dinner at a later date. $43 w/tax, 20% tip, 1 iced tea and 1 ice water.

Cafe 51 is the place to go!!! My husband and I went for lunch during their soft opening and we were blown away! The menu has such great options and variety. We shared the "burger 51" and the "turkey club" and couldn't decide which one we liked better since both were 51/10! Everything tasted so fresh and the flavors were top notch. Everyone needs to try Cafe 51 for their incredible service, delicious menu, and amazing owners/staff!! (You NEED to try the creamy Italian dressing with your fries. And you NEED to try the house salad- it has the best cheese I've ever had! And you need to just try it for yourself and see what I'm talking about!!)

The food at cafe 51 is absolutely amazing. You can tell these are family recipes and each dish is made with love. I had the chicken seeding with a cafe 51 side salad and pasta with meat sauce. We also tried the onion rings and my husband had the Cafe 51 Burger. The twisted plates section looks so good! The portion sizes are perfect and the prices are great too. The service was prompt and we were well taken care of for any additional things we needed and our drinks were always full! The whole place is so cozy and inviting. I'm excited to come back and try more dishes!

Nice decor for this Smiths American Tavern…read more The bartender met us at the door, due to it being the middle of the day, and business being a bit slower, and we opted to sit at the bar. He was very social and answered all our questions and socialized about personal life as well. We ordered the Cuban eggrolls, and they were quite good but had smaller cubes of ham as opposed to pictures showing slices in some older pictures posted to this establishment. The drinks were spot-on. Although I may sound disappointed, I'm looking forward to trying more on the menu that they have to offer. I plan to return to try more. Recommended!

The atmosphere is dive bar friendly and there are so many cool niche areas for photos. Really loved the raised unfinished ceiling and the naked white brick wall which covered the side wall of the tavern. When you enter there is a hostess to great you. And our server almost appeared immediately. She explained the menu to us and the specials. What a great first impression. Unfortunately, there was a key piece of info we missed. There is a full bar, draft beer options and a decent wine selection. I ordered a draft beer and a flight of Mimosas. The beer was good, the mimosa flight not so much. Oh, and they have brunch specials on Saturday and Sunday, including unlimited mimosas at a 2 hour limit. For food, ordered the classic breakfast plate and a breakfast burger. Food was pretty good, but the burger was from a frozen patty, so not the best. Unfortunately they have some policy where they charge an extra $1 for the eggs. It is posted in the front, but nowhere on the menu. Suffice to say that experience left a bad taste in my mouth. Pun intended. They did remove the $1 but it took more effort that I would have liked and unfortunately the review and the server's tip suffered as a result.

Our server, Brett went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. He offered a lot of suggestions and when we had a problem with the Coca Cola ribs being incredibly tough and over cooked, he didn't miss a beat offering to get me something else. The Coca Cola ribs could not even be cut with a steak knife. Not exactly falling off the bone. I decided to take home the Pork Chop Marsala with the Au gratin potatoes. My Mom really enjoyed the Asian Wings and Drums off the Happy Hour Menu. We also got the Pretzel too. My Brother thought his Cheeseburger was just okay and it didn't have much flavor. His fries were also just okay. We were celebrating my brother Jonathan's birthday week, so it was definitely a let down.

There are some uncomfortable seats with no padding or pillows. There are TVs with no volume and closed captioning. Overall, it is a good place to go, but keep in mind it is on the pricey side. I'm not sure the value is always there.
