This place is so good my wife wanted to come back the very next weekend after she first tried it. But there are some downsides... I'm not sure if they are just understaffed but both times with different waitresses they were largely not existent when we needed them. They forgot multiple items on our first trip and my appetizer salad arrived last of all my food. Also the Fish & Chips is not what you are thinking if you've had traditional fish and chips. The fish was a weird spice in the breading but lest you think I'll drown it out with the tartar sauce that also has a very untypical and odd taste. Please avoid for your own good. Now the Chicken & Waffles? The cinnamon roll pancakes? Absolutely delicious. And large portions. Definitely stick to the breakfast menu. Also the outdoor seating is right in front of the jiu jitsu studio so you can even get a show with your dinner... I've heard a lot about this place. And with this being my first visit I wanted to see what all the hype was about. The first problem I encountered was finding a parking space. From the looks of it the place was going to be packed. There were lots of people but there was still plenty of seating inside and outside. I was seated immediately at the counter since I was alone. Drinks were ordered quickly. Since it was still early I had breakfast. I ordered the Chicken Benedict which was 2 large pieces of chicken tenderloin topped with a poached egg and their hollandaise with a side of home fries. Their hollandaise was fairly good with a bit more lemony zing than I'm used to. The chicken was fried perfectly. The biscuit was nice and fluffy. It was tasty and the coffee was great. My server checked on me several times and made sure my coffee was filled. So here's my take on the place. I expected to be wowed and I really wasn't. Maybe because I went alone? I just didn't leave there thinking "I can't wait to come back". Don't get me wrong I'd come back to try it again. The menu is extensive with plenty to choose from. First time checking out this restaurant. Shocking to see a line at 1:30pm so I knew it must be good. Grabbed a counter seat and was quickly greeted by my server. I enjoyed a spicy honey chicken biscuit and some cheese grits based on the advice of the hostess and the server and their recommendations were spot on. One of the cooks behind the glass asked how it was and I responded delicious. Everyone was so nice, place was clean. Food was great and served hot and prompt. You could tell everyone who works here enjoys what they are doing. Cost with tip very reasonable for lunch these days. I will be back. Highly recommend. read more

Thrilled that Metro made its way to Lakeland! I'd been to another location several years ago and had the very memorable Cinnamon Roll pancakes. For our first foray at the Lakeland Metro, started out with the Poutine. The favors were good, could have used a few more cheese curds and maybe a little more gravy (it soaks into those crispy fries pretty quick!). I had the croissant French toast and my boyfriend had the still-epic Cinnamon Roll Pancakes (which I didn't get a pic of). The French toast was good, you lose a bit of that buttery, flakey croissant texture with the lovely batter bath it gets but it's still a good. Our sever (Macey?) was friendly, efficient, and checked in on us even while jugging a couple of other larger tables. The wild part was when they brought an entire second plate of pancakes. Advising us that with the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes the cinnamon-sugar filling is supposed to go into the pancake batter. The first plate they served had the gooey deliciousness on TOP of the pancakes. So instead of just letting that go - my man got a bonus plate! Honestly, he never would have noticed it, but I give the staff kudos for making it "right"without being prompted. Only thing on the atmosphere, turn the thermostat up!! The AC was blowing like it was 92 degrees in July. Now the staff are hustling so I know it can't be a sauna in there but it was evening and not slammed full of people so it could've been up a notch or two. Stopped in for the first time after church this Sunday and sat at the bar. What first impressed us was every single employee was happy , energetic and thorough. Not only did the food impress us the guys in the kitchen all worked together seamlessly no yelling like diners I had been in before. Management needs to educate wait staff that "what are we having today?" Is not grammatically correct and is demeaning to the customer. Your customer is not ordering for the server, so there is no "we" to inquire about. The Royal We (look it up in the dictionary) is an archaic, medieval expression used by royalty to address peasants when mandating events. Servers are not royalty and customers are not peasants. In fact, those roles in a well run establishment would have exactly the opposite roles. We went to Metro to sit outside on one of the evenings Florida has great weather. I ordered the Fish & Chips. In the past the food has been good, not so much tonight. To say disappointing would be an understatement. I ordered as they advertise " cheesiest grits around" This is total false statement. All they do is put a little cheddar on top of just regular plain grits. By no means are these cheesy grits. Next the menu says fish is served with tartar sauce, strike two, no tartar sauce anywhere on the plate. Once the waitress brought the food she was MIA. I mentioned everything when she brought the bill and she said come back and we will make it up to you, strike 3. In my opinion this is very poor customer service, today should have been the time to make it up. Great diner, efficient service, broad menu. I've had breakfast and lunch there, both were delicious & excelled in service. They have an excellent eggs benedict, whose hollandaise sauce rivals the fancy places. I also enjoyed the shepherds pie for lunch. Great flavors and just the right amount. Outdoor seating would be more enjoyable if there weren't people smoking near you which ruins the taste of your food. Employees are all very friendly and kind. we have been going there since it opened. never had any issues with the food. always delicious. never had any issues with the servers even when it was busy. today we had issues with the service. didn't wait to long to get our drinks but did wait way to long for the waitress to come back so we can order our food. we already knew what we wanted before the waitress took our drink order but never inquired if we were ready to order. She also forgot a couple of things that should have come out with the food and when we asked about it we got attitude. When Metro first opened here, not long ago, the service was excellent, the food was great and the prices good. The prices are still good, but food quality and service has slipped. We had some relatives visiting and decided to go out for lunch. The restaurant was not busy, but for whatever reason we were ignored by two women who were busy chatting at the front desk, while four of us stood there as if we were invisible. When we were finally seated, it took quite some time to be served. The AC was set on "deep freeze" and we had to ask for it to be turned up as to not catch pneumonia. This was never done, so we ate our meal in a cold breeze. My mother in law tried to catch the server's attention several times to ask for some lemon for her tea. Only after we all started waving did the girl come over. The entire experience was both frustrating and embarrassing, as we had bragged how good the Diner was.
