If you are ever in Winter Haven, this is a must! We found this hidden gem based on a recommendation from a friend who is a chef in Panama City Beach. We made reservations for brunch thus past Sunday expecting the restaurant to be busy... it wasn't busy at all. Their website and Facebook page really made the food look impressive. We were very disappointed in the atmosphere and the food was average, but beautifully displayed. We ordered mimosas to be told the orange juice was from concentrate not fresh squeezed... we are in Florida ... Polk County with lots of fresh orange juice options. I had the Brioche Benedict and it was good, but the egg still had water from bring poached. The potatoes were amazing... crispy and perfect. The speciality pancake with hazelnuts weren't very good and had a baking soda after taste. I was hopeful they would be as good as their photos, but really fell flat. Also, clean up the inside it was terrible and I wouldn't want to eat inside as it feels and smells old. read more

I ordered the Korean style Roasted Pork belly lettuce wraps with sesame seeds, cucumbers, cilantro, pickled red radishes, and Gochujang (3 for $10) and my friend ordered the burger with pimento cheese, lettuce, tomato and home cooked potato chips ($18). The the flavors and textures of each ingredient complimented each other very well on both plates and I would easily get the lettuce wraps again and the burger with kale salad instead of the chips (they weren't very crispy). A very nice restaurant located in a house. It has a hipster rustic style, soft benches. There is plenty of outdoor seating. Three rooms in the house are for dining, one is used as a kitchen. The staff is amazing and friendly. The menu is varied and accommodating to vegans. The food is delicious. I created my own such I rice bowl with portabello mushrooms and gochujang sauce. The only thing is I wish my bowl had more vegetables in it - more of those pickled onions, scallions and sauce. read more

The best words to describe Nutwood are fresh and delicious. Chef Rojas cooks all his food with passion because you can taste it through the meals he serves. My favorite dishes are mussels with blue cheese, Korean pork belly lettuce wraps, and the plum and arugula salad. The two staple desserts are the bread pudding and chocolate mousse like dessert. Both are very good, not too sweet, just a nice end to any lunch or dinner. The restaurant is in a house which is converted into 3 small but roomy dining rooms. There is outdoor seating available as well. The lunch time waitress, Beth is very knowledgeable of the menu and makes dining a pleasure. Very attentive and considerate when putting orders in so food comes out in stages rather than all at once which can be overwhelming with the smaller tables. Truly, a great place to eat with friends and family. After a really nice time at nearby Grove Roots Brewing (shout out!), a quick Yelp search "pinged" a recently opened restaurant. A short walk puts you in what almost seems like a semi residential area. Don't let the appearance deceive you! At first it looks like someone has turned their front yard into a giant patio!! I had already read a previous version of a menu and knew this place had some dishes that my palate was craving. The menu is so creative, with ingenious combinations of ingredients. I knew I was going to eat a lot, and I knew I was going to spend a lot. We did arrive early enough to have our first round of beers covered under happy hour. Our waiter, and I sooo wish I could remember his name, was a complete pro. Even having the kitchen fire more bread for my kids, or make them a half portion of a regular menu item - it took little to no effort on the kitchen's part and made everyone feel part of the experience. The market fish ceviche - spectacular - I ate it all by myself - and it was a generous portion - light - citrusy - with a sweetness from the fish and baby peppers - then, ooh crunchy and salty from the canchas!! The fresh ricotta with local honey on grilled sourdough - baby food for grown ups - yum!!! The pickled beet salad with watercress and orange segments reminded me of a salad my mother makes and in addition to being simple and delicious, really evoked some nice memories! My main course was the Skirt Steak with potatoes Anna - nicely done - it's tough to cook such a lean cut of mean and do it well. And... it got even better. The warm caramel bread pudding with berry compote and vanilla bean ice cream was pretty much orgasmic - I think I told at least two tables to order it on my way out. Excellent service! Food is phenomenal. I started with the heirloom tomato & burrata salad. I don't normally like balsamic dressing but this one was terrific. Very fresh and tasty. My entree was the Ricotta Gnudi in brown butter sauce garnished with fried sage. Absolutely delicious. My companion had the fresh ricotta on toasted sour dough drizzled with honey. We LOVE this gem in Winter Haven! We come every Friday night for date night; one of our highlights of the week. Some of our favorite dishes are the Beet Salad, "KFC" Chicken and Waffles, Iron Steak, Kale Cesar, Short Ribs, and the Bread Pudding! Although, everything we've tried has been delicious. I came here on a trip to visit some doctors for my work. Came upon this restaurant by accident but it was well worth the surprise. Tucked away in a small house, this place was a treasure trove of surprises. The owner Steve knows wine! We had delicious Rose and Cab Franc. These wine producers are nit easy to find. My buddy had the burger for lunch which was great. I went vegan and had the beet salad and sushi rice dish that was unbelievable. So good I ordered it twice! Steve used farm to table ingredients and mixes the flavors and the colors (food presentation ). This was no average sushi rice. He had fried garlic, hoisin, hot peppers, picked cabbage and cilantro among other things. Octopus was cooked to perfection and the freshness of the herbs cut through the richness perfectly. My steak was cooked as I ordered it! Unlike most places I've been to in the area the seasoning was spot on. I finished the night with a bread pudding topped with a fruit compote. I'm telling you right now, this is going to be THE spot for downtown Winter Haven. Slightly off the beaten path of downtown, this cozy restaurant, which is located inside an old house, serves farm to table, locally sourced food that beats the absolute pants off of anything else I've had locally. Communal style seating means that this maybe isn't the place to bring your small children, but the ambience is to die for. This is a restaurant where you feel like you're eating with your friends and neighbors, which you are. I stopped in for lunch and found myself ordering a steak sandwich on Cuban bread with a kale salad as my side. Believe me when I say this steak could've been served on its own. I couldn't identify the cut, as it had been sliced up for the sandwich, but it was cooked to a perfect medium rare and fell apart in my mouth. Magnifique! The kale salad was exactly that - kale, served with a delicate dressing. That sounds monotonous but I promise you it's quite good. The service was excellent - attentive but not hovering, knowledgeable without seeming condescending. If you live in the Winter Haven area you owe it to yourself to stop in. read more

Why 4 stars? Came here not expecting much and was shocked. Fresh, fast, family are the words I would use. I had the Korean Pork Belly Lettuce Wraps (wanted other stuff but trying to eat decent), they were a great size, full of flavor and very fresh. Yelp cannot adequately contain how much I want to say about this place. The food melts in your mouth. From appetizer to dessert. I tried the butternut squash soup this time and it was fluffy and creamy. How the chef pulls this off is beyond my imagination. This place should be overbooked with reservation every night.
